Have checked and Venky's are not happy about the Jones transfer and are kicking up a fuss, hence the lack of any official confirmation, but from what I have been told legally Venky's don't have a leg to stand on.

I heard a rumour that Jones had his medical at United without permission and Venky's were furious. A rumour which I accept could be false.

Something clearly is going on behind the scenes though, you would have thought the deal would have been done by now.

United: "How do you want the £16m transferred?"

Rovers: "£16m? - we value him at £25m!"

United: "No, his release clause is £16 and not a penny more, how you want it?"

Rovers: "Read that clause again my friend!"

United: "SH1T......"

Rovers: "Hello?"

Liverpool: "Ey Ey......Liverpool here, we got £17m here for you!!

Rovers; "Laaaaavly"

Please let it be so

Old Whiskey nose will be fuming  that'll teach him for slagging if the club and Venkys for sacking his stooge Allardyce :D

If they are kicking up a fuss about a contract that they oversaw being signed, then its stupid. If there is something more to it and the wording makes it so that he can only talk at that point but we can set our own asking price, then I can understand.

I think we will just end up looking like fools and Ferguson will make it public knowledge at the end.

Hold on a second. Did Rovers tell United to conduct a medical and agree terms? If the rumour is believed to be correct, then I presume all we did was oblige to the contractual agreement and let him speak to United. Which he did.

United are the fools in this one. Not us. We've got a player that's worth £25m and we are holding out for that amount. For the first time in a long while, we're not pushovers.

In this case it seems united have miss read some of the contractual stipulations. In most cases you would obviously do it as aforementioned but this is a rare case!

United have agreed terms, he has passed his medicals, they like what they see and he has already gone from "just phil jones" to "the future of English football and a potential England captain" and they thought they had a bargain!

Good, I'm glad they are.

Its about time someone at our club showed some balls and played hard to get. It probably won't make a difference this time but hopefully going forward it will show that the big clubs can't just bully us into selling all the time.

I would make this transfer as awkward and as painfiul as possible so it will send a message to other clubs that we are not just going to roll over and give up without a fight.

I can imagine venky's trying to kick up a fuss but please dont tell me man united would let this ride out for 2 days if its to be 16m ?? They would squash us!!

I dont know but just maybe we are fighting back against the big boys!!

The club sells a 'future star' for £16m and gets slagged off for it.

The club kicks off over the price or how business was conducted and again get slagged off for it.

Its about time our club took a stand, thats what they are doing. If the wording says 'can talk @ £16m' or if they tapped him up, then they deserve everything they get. Screw them for more if it benefits our club! :brfc: Its a dog eat dog world!

Spot on fella!

Okay, I'll throw a swerve ball in, how about if it ends up being a slightly better offer and one of their players coming this way?

(Having said that, the last 2 we've had have been totally rubbish....)

Thoughts?

p.s. Still gutted he's going, expected another season from Phil

Lets not turn Rovers in to Sunderland by buying all the United rejects

Totally agree. Look what Utd have done. They've signed Jones for 16M (or they think so anyway) and the same day get 12M of it back for 3 players who don't regularly feature and/or are past it!!!

Very few of their cast-offs ever amount to anything. Strachan was a rare exception.

Ideally don't sign anyone unless they have at least one transfer left in them.

What are you talking about ?

Have you forgotten about Eric Djemba-Djemba and David Bellion?

Sorry!

DjembaX2 was just what Burnley needed! Can barely remember David Bellion-----did he go to Sunderland too?

Rossi and piqué haven't done too bad. Forlan also had a pretty decent career post united didn't he

It's impossible not to say that Forlan for has been a success.

Rossi again has done OK away from OT

Pique obviously has done very well but I don't rate him. Certainly I think PJ is better than him able to handle the more physical players.

David Bellion went to West Ham now in Bordeux on loan to Nice.

Rossi and Piquet have done great.

So have Phil Neville and Keiran Richardson, wonder if Heize and Stam were cast offs? or indeed RVN, Andy Cole etc!!

I hate them for inserting clauses

I hate them for not rolling over

I hate them for not buying players

I hate them because we are linked to poor players

I hate them because to great players

I hate them for saying we aren't a selling club

I hate them for acting like we aren't a selling club

I hate them for not showing loyalty to the manager

I hate them for showing loyalty to the manager

I hate them for saying too much

I hate them for saying you little.

Etc.
