Only problem with all this, the aforesaid confidential clause was written three months after Sam was sacked.

So the leak came from within Venky's/advisors. Or the player's agent?

In that case the contract has been breached, so all bets off and start again in negotiations

You would assume the player's agent surely, whilst in contact with SAF. Mere speculation, but that would be the logical assumption as to why Venkys have their gripe.

id say rovers would be well within their rights to pull the plug and restart discussions.

was interesting to watch him in the u21's last night.. hoofing the ball from back to front... :)

fergie will knock it out of him, if he gets his man :P

Still say there is no smoke without fire....its not a simple case of United win, Venky are fools.

It it was he would have been announced 4 days ago.

They have them over the 'tapping up' claims - otherwise United wouldnt even be discussing with us.

The LT claims Rovers are prepared to take a 'tapping up' case to the premier league if necessary.

It is going to be difficult to prove that Man U got the information about the clause illegaly.

I'm sure someone mentioned the £16m clause on this messageboard a few days before United bid? It was in the Transfer thread. So there is obviously someone been putting it out there.

Could it have come from the Premier League? all contracts are checked by the premier league who set out the basic contracts in the first place, hence the clauses for speaking to Sky etc etc. They would have sight of the release clause thats for sure.

If the clause is confidential (and it would be between the club, player and agent, not any potential buyers) and manu made contact with the player without 1st confirming what our valuation is, they have made a monumental cock up. A post on a message board is irelevant. It would only become relevant if the contract was in the public domain

I agree with Hughesy, if there was a clause and it was all black and white then Rovers wouldn't even have had a choice but to put it through and it would have gone through by now.

Rovers saw something was worth fighting for and I'm glad they did even though I personally think £16m isn't a bad price. If we get £16.1m out of it then it was worth the fight.

possibly. wouldnt surprise me at all. the top clubs more or less run the premier league. theyre the clubs that bring in all the money from oversees tv and enhance the EPL brand.

yes its all conjecture etc... but make no mistake... the premier league (as a league and the people that run it) is soley there to make money by whatever means possible and the game of football itself is an after thought.

Why would an agent want to let slip about a contract "minimum buy-out" clause if he stands to make more money on a higher transfer fee?

Im sure a bigger contract for PJ @ United and a tasty signing on fee would help make up the difference.

Funny how the - 'how did Fergie meet PJ' has all been hidden now. Did he go to France? Did Fergie meet them at their home in Preston? and was it AFTER we gave them permission?

It's fairly obvious that the guy has been tapped up to me. It's happens all the time, so it shouldn't shock anyone. As I understand it, Phil Jones told the club that he wanted to talk to the likes of Arsenal, United and Liverpool last Monday and by the Tuesday, he had had his medical and contract all agreed with United, who had miraculously bid the exact amount to trigger his release clause. Phil Jones and United certainly weren't being suitable about the whole thing.

What's obvious after all this and has been the case for the last number of years, is that clubs outside of the top five or six now, can only compete with these teams, if they are bought over by some Arab billionaire, who is willing to pay whatever it takes to get break into the big time. However, most teams, realise that this is unlikely, so unable to compete financially to buy players, they look to develop their own. But this is a dead end too, because as soon as a young player shows any promise, the big teams swoop in to buy them and then the club is back at square one. Yeah, they have the cash to strengthen the squad, but never to the degree that will allow them to become one of the leading clubs. Everton are one of the exceptions to the rule, but since they finished 4th (and subsequently failed to qualify for the group stages of the Champions League), they haven't looked like doing it again. The big money they got for Rooney and Lescott, hasn't really helped them become a consistent force in challenging the big boys.

Even big clubs like Aston Villa are unable to hold onto their best players, with Ashley Young on the move and even Tottenham seem worried about losing Luka Modric. Young players like Jones quickly forget about the clubs that have developed them, whenever the big boys come calling and get lured in by the promise of big money, big player and big games. Do I resent them for doing it? No. Do I resent them for doing it so young? Yes, especially when the clubs that develop them, don't get the benefit of the talents on the pitch.

I'm not saying anything that we didn't know already and hasn't been going on for years. But this whole saga goes to further illustrate the ever growing divide between the teams with all the money and those who don't.

Martin Samuel on the "charmless" owners of Blackburn Rovers.

Venky's lack of football nous exposed again.

Samuel has never liked Rovers and I'm sure he's in a gay relationship with the Fat tw@t Allardyce. Stop agreeing with journos who just want to have a pop at clubs that don't toe the Manchester United line.

Let's face it, Jones will be a Utd player come August. I'd much rather this transfer gets sorted today so we can start to focus on replacements and other targets. I hope Kean is leaving this to the new deputy chief exec and is working on new players. Kean needs to spend as much time as possible sorting out the team and tactics for next year as he proved last year he is marginally better than useless.

I really hope Kean doesn't waste the transfer budget he has been given.

Was that the same Fat Tw@t who saved us from relegation and took us to tenth next season with a negative transfer fund?

This for me is the ultimate tragedy for me. This off season is so super important, remember how Good Old Harry was at Wet Spam sold Rio for 18 million and then preceded to spend it on the big load of junk, including Christian Daily from Rovers. Who was sold for an eye watering 7 Million.:blink::wacko:

Without the right team at Ewood a director and the rest of the people we are facing an up hill struggle. As was posted on LET if only we had Mark Hughes had he had 30 million to spend. I know MH was not perfect in the transfer market but I trust him more than Kean. If any of that 30 million is spent on RSC it will be a dark day for Rovers IMHO

The same one who is telling Jones he's right to leave Rovers. Who been giving Ferguson tips about our players? I won't get into another I hate Allardyce and You love him slagging match.

I am afraid he will sign RSC, in fact I understand he told RSC he would give him a permanent deal some time back, now for the proof merchants, I obviously cant name names, what I can say is I PM a member on this Messageboard some time back with this information and no it wasnt the people you may think either, sometimes I do this so I can chuckle to myself when people who like to knock back anything posted here without Proof!!

I reiterate what I said yesterday when we speak about proof, would Nicko divulge where he got all his info from?
