Jones wasnt 1st choice defender....Samba & Nelsen fit, he doesnt play centre back - fact!

For midfield next season, we need midfielders not a defender.

Weeeeell, not sure whether Nelsen would have gone straight back into the team now with Phil Jones steadily improving.

Right now we need a striker, if Samba leaves we need at least one very solid centre back to replace him. We'll also need a midfielder, yes - look no further than J. Jones.

I don't think that's strictly true.

Sam felt the team was stronger with Nelsen, Samba, and Jones all in the starting xi. Neither Samba nor Nelsen could play anywhere else, whereas Jones was also very good at CM. Sam's decision would appear to have been vindicated because, overall, the team was stronger as a result.

JAL doesn't think Jones is that good. He's just using it as another excuse to sound off at the owners.

He didn't see any potential in the guy and wrote him off prematurely, like he does with so many of our young players (Lowe, Hoilett, Olsson). But decided to jump on the bandwagon when anyone with half a brain could see Jones was quality.

Take Lowe out of that Hoilet asnd Olsson bracket dear boy, as your only misleading people with your ignorance Topman.

From you, that's a compliment. :)

Well I don't run it any more and I only just discovered that comment for myself so I thought I'd post it. It made me chuckle.

So rest easy Bankok, posting that link hasn't made me a millionaire.

Looks like Phil is going to watch as many games from a seat as I will over the next 3 years or so rather than stay at his hometown club and develop

We should be asking why did he want to leave, and why did it all happen so quickly. Is there a problem at the club ?

This is just a stab in the dark, but maybe it had something to do with the world's biggest club coming in for him; giving him the chance to play for the county's most successful team ever under the most successful manager of all time.

It's probably something to do with Venky's though, the illegitimates.

S15 has explained it pretty well but maybe you need to read The Daily Mail interview with Mrs. D where she explains at length what actually happened. If you want to blame someone then its the bloke who claims he is a Rovers fan.

Out of interest was there a problem at the club when all of our top players left in the past for pastures new or is this a recent development? The big difference is that we should have money to purchase new players of a higher quality.

Jones was offered truly staggering wages to stay, much more than the figure I've seen thrown around on here. After bonuses he could have potentially earned a six figure weekly wage to stay here, which is nearly double the money Man United are paying him.

So what other deciding factors were there for him in wanting to get out of the club so quickly ?

Which part of my previous post went over your head? Was it the 'biggest club in the world' bit, 'the most successful club in England' bit, or the 'most successful manager ever' bit?

Frankly, I'd have done exactly what Jones has done. It means he gets better quicker, and wins stuff. He'll play plenty of games, Ferguson wouldn't buy him for that money to sit him on the bench.

It's an absolute no brainer.

The past has nothing to do with this whatsoever imy9.

Ok Mrs.D puts her point across on putting a positive spin on trying to prevent what is a damaging situation.

How do you think the other first teamers are going to judge this ?

I'll hold and share your final thought which I think we can all agree on 'we should have money to purchase new players of HIGHER QUALITY' always remembering Philipl's posting about what happened when Jerome Anderson was involved with Man City and the shambles that followed.

As Nicko rightly pointed out Huber (who is the main man) and one of the Rao brothers are good mates, why would he try to deceive him- won't take long for the players to be found out and relationship to be over.

Positive spin? They offer him 80k a week for 5 years-staggering contract for a 19 year old-he says no but we get 20 million plus 20% sell on- that is a shrewd piece of business and I don't see a United response to her comments do you- what does that tell you? I am pleased to see owners who stand their ground.

United will be splitting their sides at the comments, no need for them to reply imy9, to a bleating women whose lost and undersold in the process one of her prized posessions legitimately is there now.

What's the cut out of it from this deal between the Rao's, Huber, and Kean, imy9.

Splitting at their sides? From a 16.5 million clause they could end up paying closer to DOUBLE, you are right laugh out loud for United.

You said it again- 'undersold' how much do you think Jones is worth?

Finally what does it matter how much of a cut any of them makes as long as the money we get from the sale is spent on the team- or would you prefer the trust method of selling and then not releasing any funds. Every club deals with agents and every club has arrangements with players, e.g Olly at Blackpool will get a slice from the sale of Adams.

To use a local phrase imy9, United will be pissing their sides at Rovers right now.

Jones value ? If Liverpool offered £22m, then surely you could have got around £25m, up front. A whole £8m plus more than what they finally got.

So you take at least a one million plus cut and think it wont affect the reinvestment, come on imy9, get real. It will be dressed up or designed to look like its going to be the same amount or more.

Bizarre.

16.5 million is the set fee, United end up paying nearly double and are 'pissing' their sides, have I got that part right? Liverpool bidding 22 million was a wind up and they knew that PJ would not have gone there.

Finally the owners are planning on spending more than what we have got for PJ, so they can take any cut they like as long as we get to invest back in the team.

I love this hypothetical figure of 25 million that you have plucked from the air- do you know the breakdown of Liverpools bid of 22 million, how much was up front? Did you even rate PJ JAL based on Topmans quote you didn't and now he is valued at world record fees...interesting lol

What makes you say that?

Chris Smalling played 34 times for the Red Scum last season(21 in the league). Jones played in 30 games (28 in the league). I know Jones was injured for a chunk but what 19 year old would be disapointed with playing 30 odd times a season for the biggest most successful club in the country?
