Mattyblue Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Still, looked a better prospect than Henderson- 20million? OUCH!
alexanders Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 What's the exact figure for the Jones deal? Anybody know?
den Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Caught out for the 1st goal thats for sure.....also hated how the commentators waxed lyrical about him the whole game, 2 weeks ago they wouldnt have give 2 hoots about him! Stop putting him down because he's left Rovers Hughesy. He's the best young centre half in the country. If we take off our rovers specs, then United have got a steal. Minimum 15 years out of him for a paltry £16m - which is peanuts in the market Man Utd deal in. Truth is because of another release clause, we didn't get maximum money for him.

Truth is because of another release clause, we didn't get maximum money for him. According to the Mail interview over the weekend Rovers get £16.5m with £4m in add ons. Also 20% of a future transfer. If he is as good as we think, we will get the £4m. Unlike the Warnock and Bentley add ons. If he stays at Man U all of his career then the 20% may be of a free transfer. So good to be in there but possibly no value. Really this Jones subject has been flogged to death. I remember people going on about Allan Hunter for years, in the end it didn't make any difference to Rovers. The cash from Jones may actually do us some good.

Anybody know? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2005290/Blackburn-owners-We-let-Jones-feared-harming-career-fighting-legal-battle.html?ITO=1490 That's as close as you will get, Alexanders. Maybe Mrs D should have followed up the tapping up thing but otherwise I don't see what else the owners could have done.
cesus Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Got to agree with Den there Hughesy, Jones always got plenty of credit whilst he was here from the media, I'd say they will probably look to be more critical now he is playing for one of the big boys. Do you blame the club for the clause Den? I'm confident up and coming players at smaller clubs (us) insist on the release clause ... Unfortunately!

I've seen it written that Fulham got £7m for Smalling.

The only thing we do know, is that the release clause was set at £16.5m. Other sources say the extras add up to £17m.
roversmum Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Would those be the sources that say Phil wasn't tapped up?
den Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Do you blame the club for the clause Den? There's no one else to blame cesus. The club wanted the clause put in there and they must have been happy with the level of it. I don't say we should never give release clauses, but in recent seasons, we do seem to have lost all of our best players because of them. To me, we seem [but I have no proof] to be more vulnerable to these clauses than other PL clubs outside the top sides.
Hughesy Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Would those be the sources that say Phil wasn't tapped up? Yes the same sources that claimed we didn’t get a penny more a few days earlier, despite the transfer taking almost a week!! As for putting him down, simply pointing out an error.
roversmum Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 I have to say, I'm not happy about release clauses either. Things change so fast even over a few months (as we have seen) they can turn out to be more of a hindrance for the club. Though if the agent/player insist what can you do? A tricky question in my view.
den Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Would those be the sources that say Phil wasn't tapped up? Newspapers mum. - and didn't Nicko say the extras were small? Makes no difference really, because we'll never know. The point is United got a steal.
jim mk2 Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 With Birmingham demanding £14m for Roger Johnson the £16m (plus unknown add-ons) United paid for Jones was not so much a steal as daylight robbery. We are faced with the prospect of having to spend the Jones money (and possibly Samba too) on an inferior player.
den Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Den is funny. but usually has a footballing point to make.
Amo Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Newspapers mum. - and didn't Nicko say the extras were small? Makes no difference really, because we'll never know. The point is United got a steal. Explain how.
BuckyRover Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Explain how. I don't know why you bother. All historical transfers point to the fact we got a good price. He's the most expensive teenage defender ever. Anyone who has gone for around the same price previously had international caps and more appearances. He also has had a bad knee injury. Den must have had a very interesting career. Expecting to be paid as much for potential as for experience. it doesn't work like that and never has.

Not to mention Utd's second most expensive defender after Rio and their 8th most expensive signing in the club's history. All this for a 19 year-old who hasn't even completed a full season. But yes, we were clearly robbed.

Jones is a fantastic prospect, he's a local lad whose done well and made a lot of money for BRFC too and we should all be proud of him...... but it just so pissses me off when last week he played for the U21's and now he's captaining them for one reason and one reason only... he's now a player for Man ###### chester U ###### nited! I even suprised even my curmudgeonly self when I found it most enjoyable watching him helplessly following the ball into the England net and seeing defeat snatched from the jaws of victory on his precious captains debut. Nothing to do with his ability of course but all to do with the massive and often sinister MU PR machine. Is it any wonder everybody who doesn't support Man Utd bloody well hates them! It's one or the other and there can never be any half measures.

All this for a 19 year-old who hasn't even completed a full season. But yes, we were clearly robbed. When Leeds Utd signed Rio he had played over 120 games at the top level (including champions league) and had played for England about 10 times including World Cup 2002. We've been shafted. Cue: "but he's going to be better than Rio, I can feel it in my water".

BuckyRover Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Well done Alexanders. Sooner or later everybody says that. Usually just before they are carted off to the asylum
