jim mk2 Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 1 SOCCER Man Utd Neville JONES COULD BE FUTURE UNITED CAPTAIN - NEVILLE Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has backed new recruit Phil Jones to one day wear the armband at Old Trafford. Neville retired last season after making 602 appearances over 19 years with the club. Jones, an England Under-21 international, agreed a five-year contract to move from Blackburn in June and Neville believes he is destined for great things. ``I think this lad's going to be a star, I really do,'' the ex-England defender told Singapore's The New Paper. ``I think he's going to be somebody who could potentially be a captain of Manchester United in the future. ``He looks really solid and he's somebody who can be a huge player for the club for the next 10 years. ``There's a lot of potential there and the performances he's put in over the last two years have been outstanding, particularly against us. ``For a 19-year-old that's excellent. He's a great signing for us.''

Majiball Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 The way Jones played in the u21 tournament is no better than when he played for us- how many articles or reports can you find? When he signed for United suddenly there are dozens of articles about how good Jones is, United are lucky to find him etc etc. United effect means the likes of Wes Brown are worth millions even though he is average, 32 and with one year left of his deal! Do you not remember his debut? 1 SOCCER Man Utd Neville JONES COULD BE FUTURE UNITED CAPTAIN - NEVILLE Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has backed new recruit Phil Jones to one day wear the armband at Old Trafford. Plenty of our fans will tell him that we got a great price for him and that he's a very long way off being a PL footballer.

His return after injury at the end of last season gave the team shape and cohesion and led to the good run of form that enabled Rovers to escape relegation. The two events were not a coincidence and I don't think fans have grasped yet how much he will be missed. It will be hard watching him on TV in a United shirt next season.

Venkys/Kean seemed to have booted out nearly all the local talent. Frankie Fielding first, then Phil Jones, nearly all the boardroom, the previous manager and his number two. Who's next ? What was it that Philipl said about Venkys taking the Blackburn out of Blackburn Rovers.

Lancashire, yes.

Stuart Posted July 28, 2011 Author Posted July 28, 2011 Nah, he's an Anti-Venkys fan. His dedication to research takes him to the depths of watching a Man U match.
Guest Rovers4Good Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 We got a top price for a chap who had not even played a full premiership season. He is a fantastic player which there is no doubt and defo one for the future but we got the best price for him and we need to move on because at the present time we are going in the wrong direction and we need to get behind the team as the last thing they need now is for a fan backlash.

It set the precedent.
USA Rover Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 I was at the match against the Chicago Fire last weekend. Jones looked decent overall, bit Corey Gibbs beat him in the air to score off a corner. 16 mil up front was fair. He's gone, let's move on.
SAS Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Now called up to England team. Didn't realise he'd improved so much during pre season......
Mattyblue Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Sums up the pathetic big club pandering that exists in this country. When players say they want to 'move to a big club to further my England ambitions', unfortunately it's true.
True Blue & White Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 When players say they want to 'move to a big club to further my England ambitions', unfortunately it's true. Yet it had the complete opposite effect for David Bentley
Backroom Tom Posted August 5, 2011 Backroom Posted August 5, 2011 What an absolute joke the whole England set up is, I just can't bring myself to be interested enough to care about that team these days.
XLM Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Sums up the pathetic big club pandering that exists in this country. When players say they want to 'move to a big club to further my England ambitions', unfortunately it's true. Spot on. The England set up is another extension of big club bias that stops the lesser teams being able to compete. Jones jumped ship, he wasn't pushed. At least not by anyone associated with Rovers.

pick32 Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Probably got called up because he was the star and captain for the impressive U21's this summer.. oh wait they crashed and burned so i guess it is because he is at UTD.
rover2000 Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Now called up to England team. Didn't realise he'd improved so much during pre season...... I wonder if a cap for England earns us anything transfer fee wise. If I recall there were "add ons" to the fee, but I don't think it was publised what they were or what they were for.
cruz Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Even if we get some cash I'd rather he earned a cap on merit tbh. Too many caps handed out like sweets. Should go back to being only for competitive matches imo
thenodrog Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 What an absolute joke the whole England set up is, I just can't bring myself to be interested enough to care about that team these days. Sick and corrupt. I've said this for countless years now Tom. Sponsors, media, advertisers and assorted money men via the FA pick the players not the manager. It's footballs equivalent of 'Yes Minister'. .....It's why we've won sweet FA in nigh on 50 years. Proper manager then who rightfully held the opinions of the press and media in absolute contempt and was strong enough to stand his ground.
Al Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 There is no one so despised as a fallen hero and no one deserves it more than Phil Jones. Calls himself a Rovers supporter and defects to the devil itself. Not often I wish someone would break a leg but.............................
