thenodrog Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 Why? This is what football has become. If one of the also rans has a good player the big boys will poach them. It's why my interest in football is almost dead - what's the point in trying to compete if you're cut off at the knees? Never mind there not being a chance of even a sniff of success or glory the vast majority of football club supporters in this country have even been denied hope ER.

newfan Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Sunday supplement 1 person said that blackburn wanted and inserted release clause themselves . is he stupid or rovers ????????
Nate Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 It annoys me how he seems to be journos flavour of the month at the moment. The way they carry on, you would of thought that Jones had no playing history before joining Man Utd.
47er Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Interesting story on Jones' transfer to Manure: http://www.givemefootball.com/premier-league/united-defender-deal-agreed-months-in-advance?
USABlue Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 What confuses me is the number on here that said Jones wasn't all that when he was here. He's a terrific young player and I am very mad that we lost him. I thought originally that he would have been best served staying here one maybe two more seasons. In hindsight how wrong was I, he's made the step up very very well. I think he may have actually gone backwards under our current clown leader.
roverwhelmed Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Correct Den, to be honest, working in Manchester, I am so f***ed off with United fans telling me how great Phil Jones is, it's going violent soon I can asure you. This. Well, perhaps without any violence! It bugs me when I'm informed about his style of play, as if I have never seen it myself when he played for us!
Guest Rovers4Good Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Jones is a class act and i'm not suprised one bit that he left Ewood for Old Trafford and anyone in his situation would do exactly the same. He's moved on now and so should we.
roverandout Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 phil jones is set to make his england debut at right back tonight
Andy Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Good on him, well deserved for what he's shown in the Premiership in the last couple of years. I was thinking about this earlier - I bet he couldn't have timed his exit from Ewood better. Can't imagine Man U would be knocking on his door at the end of this disastrous campaign under Kean.
Josh Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Well done to the lad, I think Kyle Walker is a better RB attacking wise but there's no doubt Phil Jones is the better in defence
michaelthomas Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 According to @sportingintel on twitter, we stand to get £100k each time golden boy plays for england (upto 20 caps)
BRFC_Pilkz Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Good luck to him tonight I still remember his PL debut v Chelsea like it was yesterday
DanLad Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 According to @sportingintel on twitter, we stand to get £100k each time golden boy plays for england (upto 20 caps) I thought that was all part of the £16.5 million. I remember Rooney was trumpeted as a £30 million pound transfer (or something) but a lot of that money was performance based.
Baz Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Congratulations to Phil Jones - well done. Just a shame you would have been in the U21s still if you played at Ewood.
sijoco Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Congratulations to Phil Jones - well done. Just a shame you would have been in the U21s still if you played at Ewood. Agreed, (not bitter at all honest) but not so long ago Cappello wouldn't have looked twice at him, now he's playing out of position for the National team. Elitist, nah it's all a big club conspiracy. This is why l can't cheer on these overpaid children.
Stuart Posted October 8, 2011 Author Posted October 8, 2011 Good on him, well deserved for what he's shown in the Premiership in the last couple of years. You say that, Andy, bit isn't it a bit chicken and egg. If he was still bolstering our midfield, would we be doing as badly?
waggy Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 ONE OF THE REASONS WHY PJ LEFT EWOOD,IF HE WAS STILL HERE HE WOULD BE STILL IN THE UNDER 21,S.I THOUGHT HIS DEBUT WAS VERY POOR,GAVE A PENALTY AWAY BUT THE REF SO DIFFERENT,WILL BECOME A STALWART FOR ENGLAND. WELL DONE
LeChuck Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Congratulations to Phil Jones - well done. Just a shame you would have been in the U21s still if you played at Ewood. He'd look as rubbish as the rest of our players under Kean, so it's understandable. Samba and Dann have been made to look very average because Kean can't put a solid midfield in front of them. I think Jones has gone up a level or two anyway. Training with some of the world's best players day in, day out is likely to have that effect on someone as driven as he is. Last season he was coming up against the likes of Jason Roberts and Benjani on a daily basis in training, this season it's Rooney and Berbatov.

He's the same player wearing different colours.
LeChuck Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Yeah I saw him. I didn't mean to make that sound like he wasn't excellent last season, I just think he's improved a bit since then. He's 19 so he'll be improving all the time, it's only natural. Training with better players will just accelerate that process.
Hughesy Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 LT today confirms the £100k payment for each of his first 20 international caps.
Gav Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 He managed to make the England squad without kicking a ball now he's one of the best players to come through the United academy Big club biased? Never..
den Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 JJ and Nzonzi in central midfield. Nelsen and Samba in CB, is it inconceivable that he would be left out? Jones is a quality player but in all honesty MGP would look like a class player in that United side. £20 million including add ons, plus 20% sell on fee is a fair figure for both sides for a 19 year old defender, lets see how often he plays when Vidic and Rio are fully fit. Jones starting in central midfield today, away at Liverpool. That means he's played centre half, full back and central midfield. Oh and for England. He's not that good though eh?
