Stuart Posted November 12, 2011 Author Posted November 12, 2011 Is it me or is Jones not wearing a poppy armband? Surely you'd know if you were wearing a poppy armband?
Baz Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 Henry Winter For those asking why Jones, Parker & Milner aren't wearing armbands....their armbands have fallen off & are lying on the pitch. #eng
Backroom Tom Posted November 12, 2011 Backroom Posted November 12, 2011 Oh yeah I see one there on the pitch
Rovermatt Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 And they've not picked them up? Litterbugs.
AlanK Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Although we don`t look good enough to win a tournament, I`m staggered that after beating the European and world champions that there is no thread of its own. Amazing what you can do without the egos of Rio, Gerrard, Terry and Rooney.
philipl Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 what an enormous talent Phil Jones is. Simply given away by Venky stupidity.
BuckyRover Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 what an enormous talent Phil Jones is. Simply given away by Venky stupidity. Not an international midfielder according to BBC commentary. Didn't see the game myself. I do think he's awesome though. We got a good price for him. I'll never think otherwise. Regardless of what happens.

rebelmswar Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Really? So just 3/4 months in to the new season do you think that MU would sell him on for the same money? No because sadly SAF is not a tit.
philipl Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 For a non-international class midfielder, the best midfield assembled in the past 30 years seemed to be struggling badly to get past PJ.
BuckyRover Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Really? So just 3/4 months in to the new season do you think that MU would sell him on for the same money? What a stupid thing to say. How many clubs would buy a player for £20m and then sell for £20m a few months later, let alone Manchester united? Were Sporting ripped off for Ronaldo? He cost £12m and ended up going for £80m.
T4E Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Really? So just 3/4 months in to the new season do you think that MU would sell him on for the same money? No, because United have more money than us do need it less. Simple economics.
deryck guyler's spoon Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Really? So just 3/4 months in to the new season do you think that MU would sell him on for the same money? Here, have it back you absolute rocket!
thenodrog Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 For a non-international class midfielder, the best midfield assembled in the past 30 years seemed to be struggling badly to get past PJ. Correct. Yet Carragher in the post match summary bemoaned the fact that he doesn't possess the attacking qualities of Gerrard and Lampard. What a plonker. Stevie G would have hidden from his defensive duties as usual held hands with Frank continually on the wrong side of the ball and we'd have lost by 3.
Stuart Posted November 13, 2011 Author Posted November 13, 2011 Correct. Stevie G would have hidden from his defensive duties as usual held hands with Frank continually on the wrong side of the ball and we'd have lost by 3. He said the same at half time. He couldn't resist bigging up his bezzie mate and came across as completely biased. I therefore ignored his opinion.
thenodrog Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Here, have it back you absolute rocket! Thanks for that derick. And your point is.....?
Darwen Rover Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Hear cappello has compared him to baresi... High praise indeed both in the comparison and the comparer
Andy Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 What a stupid thing to say. How many clubs would buy a player for £20m and then sell for £20m a few months later, let alone Manchester united? Were Sporting ripped off for Ronaldo? He cost £12m and ended up going for £80m. Correct - the price we got for Jones was the correct amount for his performances, experience and a certain extent of potential (which is immeasurable). Ronaldo was the same - Sporting got the right price at the time of his sale. In fact, most people thought United got ripped off! You can't sell somebody for £50m just because they may possibly have the potential to be a £50m player in 10 years. Anything can happen in football (injuries/form/etc) which affect both your talent, value and potential, so you can only ever pay the price which is right and realistic at the time of the purchase.
den Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Correct - the price we got for Jones was the correct amount for his performances, experience and a certain extent of potential (which is immeasurable). Performance - excellent. experience - doesn't matter really because he had proven he could play extremely well at PL level. Potential - immeasurable - to some. Some didn't think he was good enough for rovers. Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs had all measured his potential and knew he was someone very special. £16m was an absolute gift. At an auction between those clubs he would have brought more than £16m.
Amo Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Hear cappello has compared him to baresi... High praise indeed both in the comparison and the comparer Capello hadn't even heard of him until the summer...

But now that he has seen him close up he's comparing him to one of the greatest defenders of all time...
Gav Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 £16m was an absolute gift. At an auction between those clubs he would have brought more than £16m. We got 20m for him didn't we?
alexanders Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Didnt we get £20m? One of Venky's achievements since becoming the owners.
