adopted scouser Posted May 1, 2011 Author Posted May 1, 2011 'our 'enry knocked Clay on his big mouthed @rse. What a shame.
dave birch Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 'enry was a great boxer. It's said that Clay's corner slashed his (Clay) glove to give him more time to recover from that knockdown. I've no doubt, that had the fight continued as normal, the 'enry would have won.
waggy Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 topman our enry, the 1st fighter i really remenber, but for the cuts he would have done so much more, remenber the bugner fight when the ref was the only one who fought that joe had won. RIP splash it all over

RevidgeBlue Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 'enry was a great boxer. It's said that Clay's corner slashed his (Clay) glove to give him more time to recover from that knockdown. I've no doubt, that had the fight continued as normal, the 'enry would have won. Ali's (Clay's) trainer Angelo Dundee freely admitted that over the years. Terribly sad. Seemed a lovely man and apparently did a huge amount for charity but unlike many didn't appreciate the limelight for it. Our 'Enry was extremely small for a heavyweight by today's standards, heard a boxing pundit on Talksport last night say he only weighed in at 12 stone 12 pounds for that first fight in which he knocked Clay who was a good two stone heavier over. Pundit also said though he was a genuine hard nut which helped to compensate for his size. That lack of size and the cuts/wafer thin skin round his eyebrows probably stopped him being a true great on the world stage. Who however can forget the Brut adverts c 1977 and our 'enry coming out of the showers with a bubble permed Kevin Keegan? "Nothing beats the great smell of Brut" Never bloody well helped me pull any girls 'Enry! The godawful smell probably attracted every tom cat in the neighbourhood though! RIP.
