[Archived] Ali Syed in trouble in Spain

If he had stuck £300m into Rovers with no recourse, we would have one hell of a headache... and a big bank balance.

That was the only way the Trust would have sold to him.

As it is, we have a headache.

No, you have a headache. Some are cautiously optimistic.

Why was Syed so intent on owning a football club if he had no money?

Surely the best way to keep his scam going was to stay out of the headlines? I mean, what benefit does he get from owning a football when he has no money to invest?

I don't really understand this either. If he did not have the funds to maintain a football club, why in the world was he so hell-bent on acquiring one? All it's done is bring him assumedly unwanted attention.

You could ask the same about that bloke that bought Portsmouth, although he had the sense to make sure he was never known (until it all blew up and Panorama did an investigation).

I think these people live in fantasy worlds, they need to if they are going to sound convincing and con people but I think over time they forget they aren't actually billionaires and do something stupid like buy a football club.

With what you've been writing over the past 8/9 months in regards to the club's ownership issues I'd be keeping very quiet if I were you. I respect that you have accepted that you were mislead but still, you managed to criticise where the Rao brothers were sat at Ewood Park during a match and yet you laughed at a BBC investigation into Syed Ali. Sufficed to say that your negativity surrounding Venky's is starting to sound tainted with bitterness..

what made me laugh was the way people wanted to bend over and take it ,no matter what he was or was not handing out.The pimp my club people on here were nothing short of an embarassement....hughsey wanted a multi story car park building with only one road out,he wanted a planet bollywood theme park building and he wanted a bollywood cinema all on ewood.

It wasnt just hughsey tho .Then came the chicken dippers and we were promised marqees and beckham ,ronny. we were promised no youngsters would be sold .

WTF has happened to our club?

A fraudster tried to take over after the previous owners decided they wanted to sell. The old owners didn't sell, much to the dismay of others. Then some inexperienced owners took over and are learning as they go, doing their best to win over the fans with very good offers on ticket prices and the prospect of watching a football actually roll across the turf. They have an interest in making a marquee signing in order to bring attention to their business, which is their prerogative, alongside signings of young talent, and aren't afraid to spend at least a little (that little being a lot more than our previous owners could manage, and that was their prerogative) to improve us. Their PR isn't great but it's naivety as opposed to arrogance and lack of caring. Jones left the club because United came in, and would have done under any kind of management or ownership. It was said that we didn't have to sell youngsters, meaning that unless the players want to leave specifically they won't. Same way Tottenham don't have to sell Modric but may end up doing.

That is what has happened to our club.

No certain people were simply saying what the club could try to make extra cash for our club....I know its difficult for you to move forward and try to think positive, its not in everyone - I understand that.

Nothing wrong with thinking 'what if' - he was talking about building up the stadium and making the club more self sufficient and developing the land around Ewood, myself, along with others were simply coming up with ideas.

hughsey im not adverse to moving forward but some of the ideas people were suggesting were from the ludicrous school of brown nosing and from planet lalala. It was pathetic it was like you were all playing fm and football tycoon whilst on lsd listening to every word of what turned out to be a fraud. There was no sitting back assesing what was going on it was like people where 17 years old going into a brothel of pamela andersons and told she will do whatever you want.It was worse than a 5 year old being told write a list to santa and you can put whatever you want.

IT WAS EMBARASSING TO READ ON HERE AND SOME MADE COMPLETE TOOLS OF THEMSELVES AND NO NAMES MENTIONED .

I don't believe you have a sound gasp of the effects of lsd. Strange analogy there. And I think you have to be 18 to go into a brothel so I'm unsure. You really are a confusing chap.

Calm down, whilst people may have been going over the top back then they were probably making more sense than the post you just made.

At the time of posting that message, that is not true. The Trust gave Big Sam £6m to buy Niko and as yet the Raos have yet to spend more than £3.5m (or whatever Formica allegedly cost) on one player.

I honestly don't believe the Raos will outspend the trust given the same time-frame and if they do, it will be marginal based on the amount that sales are re-invested.

Don't forget the wages of Santa Cruz darling.

January wasn't the time for major business.

For me, it is not about spending every single penny we have got - it is about spending any money we have as wisely as possible.

Also it is clearly sensible to run the club in a prudent fashion and also ensuring we have the best staff in place on/off the pitch. Some fans are too obsessed with how many millions we potentially might spend.

After selling Roque for £17m.

Definitely.

For years we have been finishing above clubs who have been spending much more money than us.

It is utterly pointless splashing out £20-£30 million if we don't do it wisely, we'll just become like all those other clubs we've been better than for the best part of a decade.

How much did we spend under the Trust in the January tranfer windows?? The Rao's spent around £4m last January and yet the Trust barely gave us that for a summer let alone a window. In this summer we should, allegedly, spend upwards of £20m (including the sale of Jones). Now, even if you include summers where we sold big players for big money (Roque - £17m), how much did we end up spending in a given summer? £6m?? In most cases less than that.

Now Im not jumping aboard the hysteria surrounding the potential £40m budget we may have until it actually materialises in signings, however to compare the Trust's spending record in one summer against what the Rao's spent for the small window in January is unfair.

Mr Johnson paid a $3.8 million establishment fee to secure a desperately needed $150 million loan, which never materialised.

Jaysus, if he fell for that, I should send him an email to repatriate some funds for me!
