One of the best ever and a man who can show that golf is a game of finesse, ettiquette, beauty and charm. Not just power. One of the greats, not just in golf, but in sport in general. Seve was a true gent, and the definition of a real 'man'. Taken from us far too early. I only wish I had seen him in his prime. Only videos and tales relayed to me via my dad and grandparents, all of whom had the pleasure of meeting him. May God rest his soul x

I followed Seve for a few holes when he first hit the headlines at Birkdale. Even then the man had charisma and an easy smile for everyone. He was a great golfer but more than that a lovely guy.

RIP Seve. There will never be another like you.

I was at St. Andrews in 1984 when Seve won his second open.

I'd gone up hoping my all time hero Jack Nicklaus might be able to record a third successive St. Andrews victory after wins in 1970 and 78. Jack received an honorary doctorate and the freedom of the town from St. Andrews University before the event but once the action started the ageing Golden Bear never featured.

Instead the young dashing Spanish matador held off the then dominant Tom Watson for a famous and popular victory. His famous triple fist pump and sheer delight upon holing the final putt must surely rank as one of the most iconic sporting moments of all time.

I was also at the Belfry a year or so later when he fought out the most thrilling of draws with an in form Tom Kite. Unbelievable theatre.

In an era when wooden Clubs were still in vogue and the technology was nowhere near as advanced as today, the man was undoubtedly a genius on the golf course. And more importantly a top bloke and very very nice man off it.
