[Archived] Blackburn Rovers v Manchester United

Recommended Posts

I deal with a rep who had been a season tcket holder at the Theatre of Dreamers for many years, pre dating the 1968 European Cup Final. He recently stopped going and his reason, for me summed it up. He said I love Man Utd but I hate what it has become.

Had a dream we won 2-1 goals from samba and jones, united had a perfectley good goal dissallowed around the 80 minute mark.

But in reality we all know it's likely to be the other way around.

Heart says 2-1 rovers.

Head says 2-1 scum, plus a few fights here and there and rovers to be branded a disgrace and dragged through the mud.

The worst experience I had with Utd corporate"fans" was at ewood a few years ago when my then 10 year old daughter and I were physically threatened when Rovers (!!) scored and we cheered.

That waste of a salary Ken Beamish was behind me and witnessed it, I asked him for action and he got up, shrugged his shoulders and walked away.

If Lucy was not with me I would have knocked 7 shades of s@@T out of them and I guess the only one to have been in trouble would have been me rather than the prawn sandwich wallers.

I've had my fair share of problems as an away fan in home seats so I can't complain. But United fans can be pretty odious, esp when they are likely to win the league. Their general superiority complex is very unlikeable

Today is a big day for me.

Saturday 28th November 1992

Having followed Blackburn for a few years, at the tender age of seven, I finally got to go to a game at Ewood. We were playing QPR and I managed to go with a group of friends during a birthday party. Oddly, several months before my Dad had come to the decision that it was time to fully commit me to the cause by buying out the gift shop which if memory serves correctly was a caravan at the time and presenting it to me (The contents of the shop, not the caravan) in July, my birthday. After being 'interviewed' by Sky outside the ground we took our seats in the upper tier of the Walkersteel stand. I knew straight away that this was going to be an experience that I would repeat thousands of times straight away, the atmosphere and energy was breathtaking. Thankfully that day we won 1-0 thanks to Alan Shearer. Over the years I have seen fellow 90's Rovers fans go off to support Man U, Preston which disgusts me but I've been here through all the good and the downright awful.

By this point you may have wondered why I am talking about the QPR game of long ago. Well, today is the last time I will be able to watch Blackburn Rovers whilst living in this country. In just over two months, I am moving to New York City. Other than family, leaving Rovers behind has been one of the hardest aspects of moving away. It seems apt that on my last game we play Manchester United which were of course our main rivals during the best period in our long history. They are also representative of a sad time for the club and I still often think about that Ashley Ward miss in what was essentially an open net.

To the players of Blackburn Rovers, I ask you to do everything you can today. I am attending the Preston North End funeral in Bamber Bridge and I do not want to have to see Blackburn's coffin buried again a few weeks before I leave. This club has been responsible for some of the best and worst times that both I and my family have experienced.

We are a Premier League club, we deserve to be there. We can prove it beyond doubt today!

I'll be back at Ewood, just not as regularly. I'll always be there in spirit though.

Thank you for the memories.

Come on you Blues!

The really sad thing - Sky can't lose. If we beat them - huge upset, and even more focus on the final match - if they beat us, it is probable that we will have the most exciting last day relegation battle for some time. They really can't lose.

For me the dream scenario - both us and Blackpool beat United and they don't win the damned thing. I bet you could get long odds on that though.

That would be classic if that happened - and chelsea win there last two games with a lot of goals. Oh well if only.

Today is a big day for me.

Please ensure you stay on this MB. Hope all goes well with the move. Must most of all Rovers send you away smiling with a victory or even a draw today.

My dad is coming with me for this one on my wife's ticket, are they likely to be checking names on the season tickets due to all the problems? He doesn't look like a Rebecca that's for sure!

I doubt it. It would be chaos approaching kick off time if they started doing that.

Yeah, true. If they do, I'll have to convince them that he's had a sex change!

Getting very nervous now, got my blue and white hair ready :). Just hope we have a good go at them and other teams do us some favours...only wanted West Ham to win once before! Looking forward to seeing the team he plays.

I've not been even slightly nervous all week but now I've got that (recently) familiar butterfly feeling in my stomach!

My lad is convinced it's going to be 2-2.

COYB!!

About to set off and suddenly very nervous.

As long as we keep it down to 2 or 3 it's still in our hands though
