cruz Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Was that the day of the Hillsborough disaster? City? Look at the Riverside fund, 28k, Andrews gets that a week now! When did warburtons demolish as well as bake? I'm sure that match was a top of the table clash with Bradford??? Are those steps at the back to same ones that are there now? (it's an absolute disgrace exiting the riverside at the back these days, no lighting, only one stairwell, no way would we get out in an evacuation. but that's another debate)

Stuart Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Is the club likely to have additional security at the corner of BBE and Riverside to combat all the potential tree- or hill-dwellers descencing on Ewood? There are lot of families and old folk in Riverside who will be leaving via that exit. (Hopefully not with 10 minutes to go though! )
moerpho Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Don't know if this has been posted somewhere else but seems Rovers will meet a full strenght side on saturday.....Blackpool on the other hand: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/may/10/manchester-united-reserve-side-blackpool Funny thing is they probably won't be given a fine as they are in a league of their own when it comes to these things. RFW wants to send us down
Gav Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 I'm sure that match was a top of the table clash with Bradford??? Not wanting to take the thread off topic, but was that the game when the ground was full in home areas, and Rovers fans had to go on the Darwen end with the Bradford fans? complete with a line of police for segregation

RFW wants to send us down Beat them saturday and then they will put a full strength side out against Blackpool - simples!! Play a tough, physical game on saturday and you will see some of their players wimp out of challenges anyway with the champs league in thier mind.

The only difference is the Blackburn end yellow bellies can slink down the tunnels unnoticed

RFW wants to send us down Well we all knew it would happen but it still stinks. A succession of incredible refereeing decisions, Manure needing a result again us 2nd last game, playing Wolves away last game while Manure field their reserves against Blackpool! What next, half our side out through bubonic plague? It looks like our fate to go down. I'm not worried though cos Gav knows we won't!
Hasta Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 I hate to say it but, providing RFW is doing it for the benefit of Manchester United, the they can play who they want in any game. If it helps them win the Champions League then so be it. I've took this stance on all previous instances like this and, just because it now affects Rovers, I can't change my opinion.

The picture has fans in t-shirts. The picture is in a book by Peter White and I'm sure the caption mentions watford in the play offs. 1988-89 season. I'll take my anorak off now!

That's what worries me, it just seems like things are conspiring against us to send us down at the last moment, still avoidable though I just want it to be over one way or another now
roversmum Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 I'll bet Holloway won't make a fuss if that's the case.

For the life of me I can't remember the play off home game with Watford (think the scoreline says it all) but remember the away one very clearly - Gav did you arrive on time as we didn't and there where quite a few Rovers outside still trying to get in? What surprises me is how close to the ground the Manxman appears on this picture
Ralfinho Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 If Utd are planning on fielding a weakened side against Blackpool and a strong one against us then if I was Kean I would instruct our players to be that little bit stronger in the tackle (within the rules) which will make Ferguson think and make changes at half time
Mc Love Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 I am with you on that Ralfinho but all you have to do is look at who is reffing and Fergie has already thought of that

Ozz Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 The photo of the Riverside with no stand on is from Peter Whites book, as Dunc says. There is no detail as to which game it was though, referring to it only as "like a scene from the film Zulu." As the Riverside stand was demolished in 1987, it could be any number of games from early season to late, but certainly not in the winter as the light clothing is a bit of a clue. It could be the Watford play off from the year after.

Seem to recall standing on a large piece of guttering that ran down the side of the terracing celebrating at the end, only for it to snap and part of the roof coming down
CaliRoverNYC Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Why is Kalanic playing this evening for the reserves' playoff match rather than being kept available for saturday's match?
RibbleValleyRover Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Why is Kalanic playing this evening for the reserves' playoff match rather than being kept available for saturday's match? Kean's cheerleader is keeping him out of the side.
