thenodrog Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 (edited) Just more local disruption and inconvenience I expect. Perfectly good purpose built velodrome in Manchester to ride their bikes around and people who haven't contributed a fig to the roads want to wreck our lives. Whats wrong with these people? hope your better at marshalling than you were at modding. If he isn't I predict half of them won't finish the course. Edited March 19, 2015 by thenodrog 4 Quote

"Wreck pur lives"!Cripes what a fragile existence ypi must live And as for not contributing to the roads, i think you will find many cyclists also drive(or have done on the past) Edited March 19, 2015 by I.must.be.batty Quote
only2garners Posted March 19, 2015 Author Posted March 19, 2015 It doesn't really matter whether you drive or not. Road tax, a tax on road users to pay for the upkeep of roads, was abolished in the 1930s. Since then roads have been paid for out of general taxation, so every taxpayer contributes whether they use the roads with a car, bus, bike or just walk. Quote
Al Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 I don't know about you but road tax on my car costs me about £200 per annum. And your bike is charged? Quote
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted March 19, 2015 Moderation Lead Posted March 19, 2015 Mine's only £30 (Golf TDI), but it's certainly not free!! Quote
ABBEY Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Are ALL cyclists insured ? Real ones are probably but are the pretend ones ? Quote
only2garners Posted March 19, 2015 Author Posted March 19, 2015 It's not road tax though, it doesn't exist. It's vehicle excise duty and that's calculated on the CO2 emissions from your car. Yours costs you £200, my car costs nowt and neither do my bikes. Quote
T J Hooker Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 I don't know about you but road tax on my car costs me about £200 per annum. And your bike is charged? Your car contributes far more to the wearing of the road surface than a hundred bikes do.(and there's also the polutio etc...) My anual tax is closer to £300 (x reg Mondeo) which is more than the cars worth. Quote
T J Hooker Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 The biggest knobedds and accident causers on the roads are van drivers an taxi drivers. Quote

My anual tax is closer to £300 (x reg Mondeo) which is more than the cars worth. It's not wearing the roads it's wearing the patience and coming up along the wrong side of you that's the ball ache. Turning left at traffic lights and the bugger sets off before you and you don't know they are there. Particularly if you are driving a van. They seem oblivious to your indicator flashing. Not to mention riding through on red. (Of course you will not be one of the ones who do that. They never are!) Quote
T J Hooker Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 But with bad cyclists it's usually just their own safety that they are risking, where as bad motor vehicle drivers risk the lives of everybody in the vicinity(even pedestrians on the pavements) Quote

T J Hooker Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 (edited) I will apologise for my choice of language, but other that what's wrong with what I said, it was more of a factual statement than a rant.(wait let me guess, abbeys a van or taxi driver, so I must be wrong!) ABBEY Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Wrong on both counts ... But you went daft at me before the site crashed when I slated the idiot in a morning who goes thru red lights on his bike . Anyhow won't disrupt this thread . Quote
T J Hooker Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 yea fella, I knew where you was coming from but my post was just in reaction to the usual anti cyclist bull that alf and thenob( ) where spewing. Quote
Al Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 You are right Abs. Time to reset the ignore facility when the vlllage idiot starts inventing childish name calling again. 1 Quote

ABBEY Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 If a cyclist blind sides you its their own fault and become fair game Quote

Riding through on red really #@$$£@ me off though, I agree! Yes it is. If a cyclist comes up on your blind side it is his fault. It is not even a legal requirement to have a mirror on the passenger side. The law says you have to have two mirrors one of which must be on the offside. One offside wing mirror and a central one are fine. Quote
