I still think that Pogacar will be the one to beat, although it’s not quite as obvious as it looked like being in the first few days.

Tyrone - the first thing to understand about road cycling is that despite the fact that individuals win races, it’s very much a team sport. In any grand tour there are only a handful of riders that can win, even though there may be better all round riders in the race. For years Peter Sagan was the best rider in the world but he could never win the Tour. Likewise Mark Cavendish could either despite being probably the world’s best ever sprinter.

The Pyrenees is usually where Vingegaard is the stronger of the two.

It will be interesting to see how the next couple of days  pan out.

I think they set up the route hoping:

* Pog would build up a lead in the first half of the race

* Vin would reduce the gap in the second half

* Everything would (as you said) hinge on the tt.
