[Archived] Could it get worse ?

Most now seem to be running it on their websites, including the Guardian who are quoting the FA saying they will investigate the evidence which has been supplied to them

nothing to worry about. by the time the FA are ready to announce their findings..

givet may have retired. :D

I can't imagine what the reaction would be in here if this had happened on Venky's watch.

I don't think many people would be as keen to sweep it under the carpet.

Wouldn't they? Venky's or Trust, it is in our interests to 'sweep it under the carpet'.

Those stories?

What stories Philipl?

No good asking because you won't/can't be told. However, several people claim to have heard the same sort of thing. However, you have to ask, if there is truth in them then why has not one member of the press managed to get hold of one bit of evidence when that's their job? I don't say i don't believe there are probably things to be found out (most people have something they'd rather keep hidden, even if it's something quite minor) but it strikes me as strange that if the media could damage us they are not when now would be the optimum time in many ways?

If you read the article carefully, all you will read is of somebody trying to get money off of Givet. Although Givet gave it him - because he thought he had to do so - then he questioned things as it didn't sound right. He got some money back and now wants the rest. The one being investigated should not be - going on the sun article - Givet, but Black. There should be no come back on the club, owners or manager. there is nothing to sweep under the carpet. Givet has acted like a fool with money - not sought any advice, just handed it over - and it appears he has been conned.

PAFELL, I genuinely hope it is as simple as that. The last thing we need is something like this disrupting the start of next season, we're likely to struggle to stay up as it is.

I couldn't agree more, sounds like Givet has been a very foolish chap, where was the club when he needed help?

Having thought about it, I think the Sun have twisted this story round completely to make it sound like an illegal bung/dodgy agent football related story when it isn't.

This bloke Black doesn't appear to have done anything other than ring Givet and give him a lift to the Airport. We seem to have been aware Givet was represented by his proper agent at the time and have paid his agent accordingly.

Having met Givet briefly Black seems to have thought he might be a soft touch and appears to have fed him a bleeding heart story about being short of money. Givet appears to have given or rather lent him money apparently on a vague promise that he will pay it back at some point.

Can't see this is much different from a tradesman coming round to Givet's house, sussing he is worth a few bob and conning a few quid out of him saying he'd pay it back. Black is then no doubt hoping Givet is so well off he won't really miss what amounts to a couple of weeks wages and won't bother pursuing it. Not really a Club or strictly football related story at all.

The only concern might be if Sam tended to use this bloke Black on a regular basis. Let's hope it was an isolated and one off case. Even if it wasn't I very much doubt Sam would have been aware that Black was in the habit of hustling players for money.

The one thing I don't understand is, if Black went to Givet's agent first and asked him for money, and Givet's agent refused, why the hell didn't Givet refuse as well? Surely his agent would have said to Givet "If this bloke comes to you asking for money, tell him to do one"

Having supported BRFC since the late 60s which includes 3 relegation seasons, I will just be bloody glad when this season ends !!! Never, have we had to endure such a season like this one ... Beat Wolves , that is all I ask !!!!

In a lot of ways we deserve to be relegated this season , thankfully it is unlikely now ...

I understand the article perfectly.

I think if it had been Rochina and not Givet, I don't think people would be drawing the same conclusions is my point.

Regardless of what did or didn't happen, people interpret things in different ways and if it had been under Venky's stewardship it would be looked at differently.

Like when Phil saw what he wanted to see when he thought a payment was made by Givet in December. He said that exonerated Sam/JW even though that bore no relevance to what actually happened.

See the one thing I don't understand is if Givet is in a new country and doesn't speak the language why is Givet's representitive not with him or meeting him at the airport himself. Surely that would be part of an agents role to look after his client throughout the transfer. Unless the deal had been completed and Black has seen an oppertunity to fleece Givet by offering him a lift to the training ground on the first day.

"Could it get any worse?"

Yep, tomorrows fish and chips could end up being wrapped in that attempt of a 'story,' which in true 'The Sun' fashion doesn't match up with the headline.

Destabilising? To who? I bet the other players can hardly walk this morning after finding something that they probably already knew massively exaggerated and sexed up in the lowest respected Red Top in Britain. Even more worrying is that I suspect our relegation rivals will get a massive boost from finding out that our left back is a bit dim when it comes to money.

Frankly, I'd prefer it if the story were a bit more cutting; that might have helped create a siege mentality. As it is, the story is useless/ meaningless, and had it only come out on the morning of Sunday's game, it would still have been forgotten by 4pm.

Is this the same Phil Black who had.has the menswear shop in The Barton Arcade, used to have photos of him with United players on the wall etc?

I don't know but if it is why involve someone who's a rabid red rat ? I don't even go in the shop any more.

It's just been on BBC t.v. It is the same Phil Black.

The injunction that dare not speak its name?!

An injunction can only be given if it's not in the public interest. If our owners were up to no good, it would be in the public interest for it to be made public.

So that's a non starter IMO.

Thats interesting, are you speculating or should we be preparing ourselves for another twitter triumph?

Do you reckon? I'm not sure, if a footballer can get one to stop a story coming out about am affair with a reality tv star then who knows . . .

I'm more surprised that the club didn't meet him. Is this how we try to entice foreign internationals to the club by letting them stand at the John Lennon airport taxi rank when they don't speak English?

The one thought that occurred to me is that, didn't Nicko tell us once of a player who literally got hijacked by another agent at the airport and whisked off to sign for another club? So maybe we send a bruiser to pick them up.

I worded that a bit badly. The footballer can get one because it's not in yours or my interest to know about his (alleged) extra marital affairs. Whereas a judge wouldn't give an injunction to prevent the public knowing about dodgy goings on at a football club. Because it is in the public interest to know, especially if the result would be bad for the football club and it's supporters (the public).

Ah okay I see what you mean. That makes sense. The only way I guess it could be this then is if the issue is with one of the owners themselves? Its all speculation though isn't it. I almost wish people would saw nothing rather than the vaguest of hints.

Big Sam....envelopes stuffed with used notes....dodgy agent....now where have I heard this before?

One thing for sure, if we have a case to answer they'll throw the book at us. The footie authroities have been looking to get someone for this kind of thing for ages and we are a likely cabndidate for a points deduction or a demotion and I'm sure we wouldn't have many high profile media supporters srgueing against it. Just hope they can't tie the club to it but it does look like there must be more to it than meets the eye and mud sticks.
