braddock Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Sweet, should see Kean's position safer. Not safe as anything could happen, but after the drink driving episode and Venky's focus on 'image' (like with El Diouf) I thought there was a chance he may be on his way. Keeping Jensen would be a strange choice if Kean was leaving.
Look4Me Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Sweet, should see Kean's position safer. Not safe as anything could happen, but after the drink driving episode and Venky's focus on 'image' (like with El Diouf) I thought there was a chance he may be on his way. Keeping Jensen would be a strange choice if Kean was leaving. I did notice the article saying it was a rolling contract. As far as I can remember from numerous manager games (I've played them too..) that kind of contract can be terminated pretty much when you feel like it, from both parties. Anyone who can verify this? That might indicate that the owners are keeping their options open, in case a really big name should appear from somewhere..
chris Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Ok this just proves Kean is going nowhere surely "he was keen for me to stay whatever happens" So time for people to get over a new manager coming in.
Amo Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 At least he's on a rolling contract and nothing too stupid.
A cup of beans Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 not happy. lets hope michael laudrup is coming
modes98 Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I did notice the article saying it was a rolling contract. As far as I can remember from numerous manager games (I've played them too..) that kind of contract can be terminated pretty much when you feel like it, from both parties. Anyone who can verify this? The same contract as Sir Alex has. There is a year on the contract so if he were sacked then it would be a single years salary rather than 3 or 4 years. Equally if someone wanted him, unlikely I know, they would only have to pay us compensation at a years worth. It provides flexibility.
cruz Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Very ambitious Venky's, exciting times! Has there ever been an assistant manager appointment that has made people go "Wow!"? Never miss an apportunity to have a good bitch though
John Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Has there ever been an assistant manager appointment that has made people go "Wow!"? Never miss an apportunity to have a good bitch though Well Kean initially said the whole football world would sit up and take notice prior to the appointment of Jensen...
Parsonblue Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Has there ever been an assistant manager appointment that has made people go "Wow!"? Yes. When Jack introduced Kenny and Ray Harford as his new management team. Ray was a pretty impressive appointment as an an assistant considering his managerial and coaching background.
braddock Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Yes. When Jack introduced Kenny and Ray Harford as his new management team. Ray was a pretty impressive appointment as an an assistant considering his managerial and coaching background. In which case... VENKY'S OUT!
chris Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 who cares he has loads of coaching experience and played for Arsenal. I really don't think whather Jensen or Brian Kidd is assistant manager its going to make much a difference. Although I know he is the scapegoat for many.
John Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 who cares he has loads of coaching experience and played for Arsenal. I really don't think whather Jensen or Brian Kidd is assistant manager its going to make much a difference. Although I know he is the scapegoat for many. Coaching experience at the highest level too…... the fact he is here has nothing to do with being a SEM client. Point I am making is that decisions (or appointments) like these, IMO, undermine the self stated notion that Venky’s are very ambitious.
jim mk2 Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Giving Jensen a new deal (and presumably retaining Kean) gives a lie to the owners' claims to have high ambitions for Rovers with a stated aim of a top five finish. Ancelotti and presumably his assistants are now out of work. If Venky's are serious then these are the sort of managers they should be considering.
cruz Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Ancelotti? Some people need to put the hash cakes away and retune to the real world. HELLO!!!!!
Majiball Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Coaching experience at the highest level too…... the fact he is here has nothing to do with being a SEM client. Point I am making is that decisions (or appointments) like these, IMO, undermine the self stated notion that Venky’s are very ambitious. When have their actions ever reflected their words?
Inta Beaver Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 "Steve told me a few weeks ago that he was keen for me to stay whatever happened, but the situation is clearly much better now we have secured our Premier League status. What does he mean "whatever happened"??? Is he saying the club actually talked about relegation??? I'm sure Kean kept banging on about relegation has never been mentioned during these trips to India.
Mercer Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Can't be any clearer, for better or worse, Kean is staying. Assistant manager is critical - good cop, bad cop, independent advice for manager when not just a yes man and also huge sway with the players eg Ray Harford, Steve Clarke, Ray Wilkins (coincidence that Chelsea's problems started when he left ?). Don't know a huge amount about JJ, though some alleged rumblings from Brockhall in his early days, however, he does not cut an impressive figure during matches !!!
Mattyblue Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 As already said it is obvious that Kean is not going anywhere. Just got to hope he learns rapidly. It is also clear that SEM will not be departing the scene any time soon. Lucky, lucky lad.
Exiled in Toronto Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 When have their actions ever reflected their words? Ummm, giving Jenson a new contract?
67splitscreen Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Could they not have at least waited until the hangovers had cleared. This must also suggest that Kean is definitely staying.
gumboots Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Giving Jensen a new deal (and presumably retaining Kean) gives a lie to the owners' claims to have high ambitions for Rovers with a stated aim of a top five finish. Ancelotti and presumably his assistants are now out of work. If Venky's are serious then these are the sort of managers they should be considering. So when the owners talk about signing marquee players and managers they are deluded but then Ancelotti is available and the owners are getting stick for not pursuing him? I'm not a Kean fan and don't know enough about Jensen to know if this is a good appointment, but it's a realistic one. The guy has been here for a while now and although at the beginning of his tenure things seemed to go from bad to worse they have improved (and they really needed to) more recently. Generally, unless things have gone totally pear-shaped, it's best to stick with the management team you have, and although I wouldn't be heartbroken if Kean and co were to leave, I can understand the logic behind keeping them.
True Blue & White Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 who cares he has loads of coaching experience and played for Arsenal. I really don't think whather Jensen or Brian Kidd is assistant manager its going to make much a difference. Although I know he is the scapegoat for many. So why employ an assistant at all then?
