[Archived] Please help save Rushden & Diamonds FC

Recommended Posts

To cut a long story short, my club Rushden and Diamonds needs to raise £250,000 in 2 weeks to save the club from going bankrupt.

Please could any Blackburn fans help by buying a pixel here: http://www.saverdfc.com/blog/buy-a-pixel/

You don't need to include a company URL, You can just upload a picture of the Blackburn badge. Please look at the different areas of the site to see what we are trying to achieve, and how we are trying to achieve it.

Thanks for any help

Sad but a rather pointless exercise imo, especially with Stanley on our doorstep needing help just as much. Truth is that the money in football that used to filter down from the top and sustain 92 clubs in the country is now skimmed off by players, their agents and numerous other parasites. Because of this there are now way too many teams living off too little income. Your 750k looks too big an ask. Sick though it is in comparison we are a poor club in our league despite having in the region of one million pounds per WEEK for EVERY WEEK of the year to live off!

Sorry to say but you will have to pack it in or join up with Kettering and possibly the cobblers too if you want to see football of any quality in your neck of the woods, whilst we face the inevitability that one day we will have to join with 1,2, 3, 4 or even 5 of our neighbours or go under ourselves.

Chucking good money after bad just delays the inevitable. The quicker football clubs are treated like just another business when bad management and/or unfavourable trading conditions put them in danger the better.

Sad to say it's dog eat dog and survival of the fittest all rolled into one.

If football was just like any other business many of the 100 to 130 year old institutions that are much loved and household names would have ceased to exist decades ago. Football is completely unlike any other business, it's about glory, romance, hope and other things that cant be quantified on a balance sheet. That's why we love it.

The day football becomes 'like any other business' (or the day Rovers merge with other clubs for that matter) is the day I find something else to do.

I doubt I'll be alone.

Fine so off you go and buy a bundle of pixels then.

If football is not to be run as a business then irresponsibility will rule the roost and whatever is chucked at it will be swallowed in ever increasing amounts. If you want to argue whether it's a business or not then take it up with the taxman.

btw dgs re: your second last sentence .... just how much do you spend annually on football?

Well, the weekend in Sydney cost me a few bucks when Rovers were there (close on 2000 mile round trip). My Foxtel sports package dosn't come free either. I'm eagerly looking forward to the fixture list to check out which games I can get to when we are home over Christmas. I must have spent thousands on following Rovers down the years before having the temerity to move abroad for the sake of my family.

Ok?

Can you ever, ever have a debate without using the 'rolleyes' smiley and getting personal?

I have to agree with Gordon; let them go to the wall. If they can't manage their finances searching for glory they don't deserve bailing out.

A fiver would be much better off being donated to charity rather than a football club.

Well tbh I use them so that the message of my posts are interpreted correctly. Without them I am frequently misunderstood. :P

Rushden have only got themselves to blame.

Their fans weren't trawling the message boards begging for donations when Max Griggs (wealthy owner of Dr Martin) was throwing millions of quid at the club not too long ago. People have very short memories.

Clubs like this deserve to go under. Clubs have to be financially responsible to survive in the long term.

If Rovers were on the brink, I wouldn't ask anyone else for help. It would be our own stupid fault.

I'd rather send my money to a real charity.

There but for the grace of god?

Let's see how we all feel if Venkys screw us over, eh?
