HemelRover Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 That's still better than Roberts, Santa Cruz and Benjani combined... Agree totally. As a second/third choice then Martins may be decent. But he will be on a fair wedge. He is not THE answer, not THE main striker.

chocky Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Agree totally. As a second/third choice then Martins may be decent. But he will be on a fair wedge. He is not THE answer, not THE main striker. That's right. I only hope Kean has a good target.

I think we are all going to be disappointed on the striker front. Kean probably sees Roque as his main striker. I just hope that we don't sign anyone on the back of a wonder goal in the U-21 Euros. Although that Dockal doesn't look half bad!

No danger of that here, he's scored two I was wondering how long before he'd be mentioned, no doubt his value has doubled in the last hour...
roversfan99 Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Martins, Olsson and Hoilett wouldn't half be a threat on the counter attack. He would need to be one of at least 2 striker signings though.
HemelRover Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Vagner Love The fact that a bigger club in Europe havnt picked him up yet worries me. He has been at Moscow since 2004
Hughesy Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 BTW, who is Phil Jones agent Nicko? Im hoping its his dad Super Keef rumoured to be off to Super Hoops! QPR want him and rumoured 2 mill prayers being answered? LOL Please be true!!! £2m?? They need someone to drive him down? Oh and the injured striker Rovers are after is a former PL player that, last I checked was in either Germany or Russia. We shall see in due time i expect If its Martins - Brum had the option to sign him for £5m, but they got relegated. £3-4m should surely get him then! At that sort of money he is worth it, he will score goals if you give him a chance and he also has alot of pace too, him with the two neighbours out wide could be seriously dangerous on the break
Steve Moss Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Assuming P. Jones and Samba both go, would Kean have enough cash available to raid Chelsea for Sturridge, Bertrand and Cork? They're young, home grown and I think they have what it takes to succeed in the PL. Those who have been fed anti-Venkys info from within and just outside the club may feel a bit sheepish right now. Anybody else would say 'well done' for standing up for yourselves. The anti-Venkys sentiment largely has to do what with Venkys have said and done, not where they're from. That said, if there is truth to the Venkys v. ManU stories, than I think Venkys have taken a big step forward in rehabilitating their reputation. It seems most of the rags hold absolute contempt for Venkys. Based on what? I would suggest one thing and one thing only. Sam bleeding Allardyce. They should have handled that in a better fashion, but it shouldn't be a stick to beat them with forever more. Sam Allarydce PLUS appointing Steve Kean who both had no history to justify his appointment and then failed to acquire the points which would have supported Venkys' judgement. Those two objective facts, coupled with some subjectively far fetched marquee targets and various contradictory statements, torpedoed Venkys' credibility. That said, they can repair the damage. Standing up to ManU, some solid moves in the transfer market, and an improvement in Kean's performance (or replacing him) would certainly reverse my opinion of Venkys and, I believe, with almost all on this board. It remains to be seen if they're up for it, however. I have joked about Venkeys whenever I felt like it and as lots of people I have been left bemused by many decisions and quotes. I tend to joke when I am worried or down - goes with the job. But on this one I could not be happier with them. I couldn't give a damn what the papers say, they have stood up for us, toe to toe with the devils machine and for that I, for one, am grateful. Good on you Venkeys, keep it up. What will keep feeding mistrust and disdain is if any criticism of the present owners is met with accusations of racisim. Respect must be earned over a period of time and some of the early decisions that our new owners made were naive in the extreme. Timestamp, it was Nicko who wrote the article in the people today. I think appoint Adam Pearson has CEO/DoF would be an excellent choice for the club. Pearson looks good but doesn't he own a bit of Derby County and/or Hull? I thought I read something awhile ago but my memory could be bad. If Pearson does own an interest in another club, is that a problem? I have to say out of samba and nelson. Nelson is the far more consistent defender. Yes samba is good, . . . And Givet, all rovers fans seem to massively under rate him in my opinion. Were always a far more solid side when he's on the pitch. These guys might not be rated as highly as Samba and PJ . . . The admiral is a ###### legend and needs to be respected ! I wish we had 11 as loyal as him !! Agreed. I think we are well settled in CD, if Nelson, Givet and Hanley are all available. If we buy one more CD, we should be set. What we need is to resign Hoilett. Then buy a striker (I nominate Sturridge), defensive midfielder (I nominate J. Jones, Jack Cork), a LB (I nominate Bertrand) and a RB (haven't a clue). I think Formica and Jason Lowe need chances in the midfield role. Sturridge and Rochina, coupled with a returning Nick Blackman, and keeping Nicko, Benjani and Roberts, should mean that we are better off then the last few seasons.
chaddyrovers Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Luca Toni. He is TOO OLD. 34 now If its Martins - Brum had the option to sign him for £5m, but they got relegated. £3-4m should surely get him then! At that sort of money he is worth it, he will score goals if you give him a chance and he also has alot of pace too, him with the two neighbours out wide could be seriously dangerous on the break I think Martins would be a good player for us. I want us to sign him before we sign Kalinic. Martins and RSC would be good partnership up front with Olsson and Hoilett on the wing. RSC, Martins, Roberts, Hoilett and Ruben should be enough for the striker department. Plus the number of strikers we have will depend on which formation we are going to play this season coming. The 2 formations I would play is 4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1.
Blueboy Downunder Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Vagner Love absolutely phoxy....i would love some of that down at ewood.
Commondore Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 The fact that a bigger club in Europe havnt picked him up yet worries me. He has been at Moscow since 2004 It's quite simply because he's lazy and constantly partying. I read a long interview with him a while ago, the name "Love" comes from all the women he's had over the years. Moscow tolerates him and gives him enormous amounts of slack, he's never back in time from holidays in Brazil and so on, but I'm pretty sure he wouldn't work in any other European club.
super_arran Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Luca Toni will never be too old!! I hear he's got a case of the Benjamin buttons about him?
Iceman Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Krankjar, Carlton Cole, Roger Johnson/Dann and Defoe. cmon Venkys

The 2 formations I would play is 4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1. 2 broken down nags, a perennially misfiring striker, a winger, and an untested youngster? Improvement is what we are looking for. We had the vast majority of that last list season and Emerton outscored them, and Martins that typically takes 90 appearances for a club to bang in 20+ goals, that seems pretty quagmirish too me. Might as well add Benji to the list in place of Martins and we are pretty much at the same stage. Give me the "Too old" player any day. Salgado is a crustacean compared to him. What about Craig Bellamy He can whinge and pout at Cardiff for all I care.
Kenwoo Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 BTW, who is Phil Jones agent Nicko? Jones' agent is a guy called Warwick Horton
rebelmswar Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Jones' agent is a guy called Warwick Horton Tell me that name doesnt belong in a country club. "More tea Warwick?" "Yes please Chesterfield, and a poached Dodo egg with some of that fine Siberian tiger liver pate. Yaaahs."
cn174 Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Krankjar, Carlton Cole, Roger Johnson/Dann and Defoe. cmon Venkys Carlton Cole, you gotta be kidding! Completely overrated - ever so slightly better scoring record than our Jase and he'd cost a fortune!
