He seemed VERY reluctant to say the money will be reinvested into new players he just kept dodging the question and saying 'well we did really well at the end of last season and we want to push forward with the team that finished the season'

Maybe nothing to read into...

HA! that's the Steve Kean drink-drive defence fund!

Or conversely make other players interested in joining.

And he's probably preparing to be blamed for all of this by the majority of our fans, given how amazingly intelligent they all are.

I don't have a problem with Kean. It was just a bit odd to hear him reveal the gory details of the deal where most managers would side-step it.

Right, it is £16 million now, £4 million add ons such as United winning the league, England caps.

Listen to this man (Kenwoo)- he knows his stuff clearly.

Then consider if Nicko told us the same thing a few days ago and again earlier today.....

And if that isnt good enough - listen to the club announcement & Steve Kean - Just over £20m! :brfc:

Philip who won the 3 you mentioned or Nicko!?:o

Fantastic deal for the club and as I said previously Venky's have gone up in my estimation.

£20 million for a player who has played 34 times for Rovers.

I have to say I would have wished Jones the best for the future BUT signing a Manchester United shirt BEFORE any deal was announced is something that a genuine Rovers fan would not have done- a statement to the fans would have been nice too from a 'fan.'

I know people have referred to Jordan Henderson, but he has played DOUBLE the games in the league that Jones has and has an England cap- he went for the same price.

Yeah, I have read quite a few stories before today where Venky's are supposedly stating that fees from all sales will be given to Kean to re-invest.. So not sure why he would dodge it like he did.

At work. Missed this.

Did Kean say we had £20million to spend, or Jones went for £20million?

Or both?

Jones went for over £20m when you add on all the clauses etc..

He avoided mentioning how much to spend etc... and basically avoided anything to do with new signings.

Well done to the regime.. bumping up that price to over £20m in my eyes is fantastic.

Now to focus on incomings.. Hopefully Nicko can get us all excited again with some 11 o clockers in the not too distant future thumbs-up.gif

I would hope he is holding it back in the media, instead of saying, yes we have 30 mill to spend and so on. If we make an inquiry about a player and they know that Steve Kean has announced shopping-spree-summer with loads of cash floating around, then they will ask for more that we offer them.

But is Kean smart enough to know this? He always seems so naive and honest/stupid in his interviews

Winning premier league football matches isnt about selling Phil Jones FFS!

King Kenny wanted Jones, Sir Alex wanted Jones, Redknapp wanted Jones, Mancini wanted Jones, Wenger wanted Jones, FFS! they all want to win premiership football games and sought to have Phil Jones in their teams to achieve this task.

The club along with Stephen Kean is the biggest loser here.

Just what is Stephen Keans remit here, to lose premiership games, or pocket as much cash for the owners as is possible, in the shortest period of time.

Don't get me wrong I agree with this, I'm glad he didn't come out and say a figure, that would be stupid.

It would have been nice for him to commit to saying the money would be reinvested in the club.

That doesn't seem as though it's too difficult, give the fans something to smile about.

Before the conspiracy theorists start...

The manager said he would invest the money.

He didn't say how much he would spend or put numbers or fees on players.

Do you really want him go all Barrry Fry and start saying 'monster, monster, we're going to bring in X, Y and Z.'

It only leads to disappointment.

I think there are things rolling in the far yonder.

Funnily enough the first project might not even cost a fee.

[PS, love you dearly Hughesy, but no PMs  ]

The player wanted to leave- at that stage nothing you can do except play hard ball, we got a record fee for a 19 year old who has played 34 times for us.

Whats with the StePHEN Kean thing, its Steve Kean or have I got that wrong?

Nicko said that every penny would be spent on players- he has not been wrong yet, so lets see what happens.

Edit- Kean cant win, if he says we "have a big budget to spend on players" he is naive, if he says nothing then the money is going to be swallowed up by the owners.

Cheers Nicko for the info- top work- again.

Seriously?

Strikers = £££ Midfielders = ££ Defenders = £

Carroll = £35m Henderson = £22m Jones = £20m

Jones is a class player but it's hardly like we let him go on a free, we can't compete with the big clubs.

Your life must be very grim.

Phil wanted to go. We tried to keep him. Some would consider keeping a player against his will on whatever it was a week that we'd be offering a loss rather than sealing a £20 million deal for a player with limited experience and a bad injury under his belt. One of Phil's big attributes was the effort he brought to games. Who knows if that would have remained had he been kept against his will.

Great work by the club, as long as the money is reinvested.

JAL we get it you don't like Kean, you don't like Venkys, everything they do is bad, give it a rest now buddy, just have an open mind over the summer and see how it pans out, surely it has to be better than when we sold Bentley (far bigger miss than Jones will be) and replaced him with nobody.

I wish Phil Jones luck I just wont say if it's bad or good luck.

I suppose it does make sense to get the free transfer and cheap fee players out of the way first. Then splash the big money later. If it was done vice versa, we could be held to ransom for more money as it would be obvious we had it.

If this is what is happening then it would explain the lack of big name rumours that we had in abundance in the last window.
