magicalmortensleftpeg Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 A decent centre back could only get us so far. A premiership quality striker would probably be worth more than Jones. Get one in along with a decent creative mid and a solid CB replacement and that'd suit me. We've never had so much money to spend in one go. This is where things get interesting.

roverandout Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 notice when asked, blackburn fans would be hoping for 2 or 3 big name signings coming in, he changed the subject. Guess we will be going for crocky sante cruz then and other dross.
Tris Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Not in the Champions League at the moment! Cracking comment, actually burst out laughing. Out of context quoting designed to mislead (from one of the usual suspects). What Kean actually said is ... they made an offer to Jones that would have been the biggest contract offer to any Rovers player in history, but that his decision to move wasn't motivated by money but by a desire to play in the Champions League at this stage in his career - which obviously Rovers can't offer at this time.
Hughesy Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Funnily enough the first project might not even cost a fee. Demba Ba, Larsson?

He actually implied that we would be in the champions league in a few years. Just because you hated our previous manager Tris, no need to take that out on the rest of us who have been critical on the new manager (results record) and our new owners decision making. I have given Kean/Venkys credit when due, unlike yourself under our previous manager - fat slug etc
Hughesy Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 So THATS where he gets his 'inside knowledge'. 1 of several ha, ESPN still lurking on here too? lol
Black Burn Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Wait, when, what, where?! Steve Kean said on SSN? I'm guessing SSN is a UK channel on television, but is there a link to that video on the Internet? I can't seem to find that news anywhere except forums. Thanks.
JAL Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Great work by the club, as long as the money is reinvested. JAL we get it you don't like Kean, you don't like Venkys, everything they do is bad, give it a rest now buddy, just have an open mind over the summer and see how it pans out, surely it has to be better than when we sold Bentley (far bigger miss than Jones will be) and replaced him with nobody. I wish Phil Jones luck I just wont say if it's bad or good luck. I want so much for Venky's to succeed here in Blackburn, on so many fronts, other than just Rovers TCO. Our arms are open to the Raos and their place here in Blackburn and surrounding areas is awaiting them, all they have to do is take another leap.
Kelbo Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 I suppose it does make sense to get the free transfer and cheap fee players out of the way first. Then splash the big money later. If it was done vice versa, we could be held to ransom for more money as it would be obvious we had it. If this is what is happening then it would explain the lack of big name rumours that we had in abundance in the last window. The cost of a player is not the important issue, the important issues are, will the players improve the team and are they decent players, if they meet that criteria then they are good signings. A certain goalkeeper came to Rovers on a free transfer!!!
JAL Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Your life must be very grim. Phil wanted to go. We tried to keep him. Some would consider keeping a player against his will on whatever it was a week that we'd be offering a loss rather than sealing a £20 million deal for a player with limited experience and a bad injury under his belt. One of Phil's big attributes was the effort he brought to games. Who knows if that would have remained had he been kept against his will. It is grim when Rovers lose, very grim indeed, what can one say.
rebelmswar Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 The cost of a player is not the important issue, the important issues are, will the players improve the team and are they decent players, if they meet that criteria then they are good signings. I am sure if we invest wisely then we can fill the gaps that have needed filling WAAAAY before Venkys got here. If he wanted to leave - bugger off enjoy the life of a Manchester Utd git. It is sad that he WANTED to leave in the first place, but life goes on I suppose. This isn't our first raping by a, supposed bigger club, and I am sure it wont be the last. Give us some good signings Kean, but for the love of God don't blow it.

Whilst i dont agree with everything JAL says i think there's a lot of Rovers fans myself included feel exactly the same way
Black Burn Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 It is grim when Rovers lose, very grim indeed, what can one say. Say we will move on, get stronger and look forward to the future! I daresay if it was Sam Allardyce and the Trust who sold Jones, you wouldn't be criticizing them. But I could be wrong.
Kamy100 Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Well done to Venky's, getting anything extra out of Man Utd is a bonus but also sends a warning to other clubs, particularly if as Nicko says there is no release clause is Samba's contract!
leerovers1980 Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 don't shoot the messenger but I heard that where after n'zogbia again, dont know how much truth is in this I just thought I would put it out there and see if the people in the know on here could find any truth in it

The BBC quote is far less flattering than the one you have there: "Phil wants to play Champions League football now and we're not at that level. I'm sure we will be in the coming years, and we gave it a real good try and made him a fantastic offer, but I understand why he wants to go now." Just in case there was any doubt, I've put the stand-out part in bold. That sort of spin is the entire reason he has the managerial position he finds himself in. I like optimism and ambition, I really do. But unless Venky's are prepared to throw money of Man City proportions, it is a completely unattainable goal on any time frame that could be classed as 'coming years'. Kean will know this too.
Teacup Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 The cost of a player is not the important issue, the important issues are, will the players improve the team and are they decent players, if they meet that criteria then they are good signings. Kean in my opinion will be going out to get players to improve our squad, that is obvious, he wouldn't intentionally go out to buy rubbish footballers. However, just because a player hasn't done well lately or has been really great in the last season, there is nothing written in stone to say that this person will continue on in the same way. So price is important, if we get someone on a free who turns out to be amazing or spend big money on someone who we all expect to be great but fails.. Then surely the money is important then?

A messenger shot. Not right [at the moment anyway].
JonnyH Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Paul Smith from the Mirror- "Rubbish. There was no compromise on the deal whatsoever. United stood firm and refused to pay more. I don't care what the Venky's say" Whether he's right or not, the guy seems to have an attitude problem. Offer him out at the Christmas party Nicko!

I doubt Kean was lying when he said all the bits and pieces add up to 20 million, but hey, Paul Smith can believe whatever he want.

But he should stick to stories down saaaf.
Billy Castell Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Not sure about that N'Zogbia. Lots of talent, but a bit of a nob as a person. Same thing about Robiniho, who someone at work said he read was to be our 'marquee' signing. I bet that's another daft fairy tale too.
Jamesw1982 Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Nicko what do you know about this young Serge Aurier and is there any truth we could be interested in signing di natale from udinese?
