Say we will move on, get stronger and look forward to the future!

I daresay if it was Sam Allardyce and the Trust who sold Jones, you wouldn't be criticizing them. But I could be wrong.

I would most certainly have been criticizing Allardyce, and the trust, if they had sold Jones, most definitely with a passion!

The only difference would have been that i'd have had a little bit more confidence in getting a player in, of a suitable standard with Allardyce or Mark Hughes in charge as opposed to Stephen Kean. Theres no confidence, no belief in this guy that he can deliver improvements from a footballing point of view.

Can you get any better than Phil Jones for the centre half position in English football ?

Thats why the champions of England have just signed him as they have a man in charge who knows his stuff on what it takes to win premier league football matches.

Phil Jones is THEIR gain and our loss regardless of the sums involved from my point of view.

Quite ironic really , good managers like Hughes and Allardyce had a pittance to spend in the transfer market , now Steve Kean has in excess of £20m

Not sure about that N'Zogbia. Lots of talent, but a bit of a nob as a person.

He didn't go missing when Wigan needed him though. He was outstanding in those final weeks of the season.

The biggest problem is that he'd cost at least £10 million. I'd rather we bought a proper striker and a Jermaine Jones replacement before we looked elsewhere. If there is that kind of spare cash around then N'Zogbia would be a brilliant signing though.

Paul Smith from the Mirror- "Rubbish. There was no compromise on the deal whatsoever. United stood firm and refused to pay more. I don't care what the Venky's say"

I guess he wouldn't be a proper southern journo if he didn't have Sir Alex and Man U's back.

Strange how Rovers make mention of the potential fee but Man United don't. They may have stood firm on the up front bit but looks like the overall deal has been bumped up by Venky's threats.

Time to move on and start spending this cash. Crocky will no doubt be high on the list. He doesn't score or set up goals but is nice to have around training, so well worth the wages ;)

I doubt Kean was lying when he said all the bits and pieces add up to 20 million, but hey, Paul Smith can believe whatever he want.

His charming response to that:-

"They would say that. I suspect a face saving exercise after making fools of themselves."

I quite like Paul.

But he should stick to stories down saaaf.

What was the fee for Jones. 16 - 16.5 - 17 - 20 million. No wonder were often told don't believe what the papers say.

The BBC quote is far less flattering than the one you have there:

"Phil wants to play Champions League football now and we're not at that level. I'm sure we will be in the coming years, and we gave it a real good try and made him a fantastic offer, but I understand why he wants to go now."

Just in case there was any doubt, I've put the stand-out part in bold.

The thing is, that in the interview as broadcast on TV the bold bit was nothing more than a throwaway comment in the context of what he was actually answering on - ie Jones's reasons for moving.

What is happening (and I'm not including you in this btw) is that there's a bunch of posters on here who will take any tiny snippet from Kean and/or Venkys - in context or out of context - and blow it up on this MB into a stick to beat them with. Some are going beyond that and actually making stuff up. It's relentless and almost every thread is hijacked.

It's becoming extremely annoying - in fact it is ruining the MB.

Are not posters permitted to post their opinions / concerns. You also have a choice to ignore, accept what is posted etc etc. People trying to suggest others are not allowed to post their opinions (right or wrong ones for that matter) that is ruining this MB. Having ago at people when they post things contary to what other views are. You chose to be annoyed by other views. If you don't want to believe etc what is written, so be it. But I suggest a poster is permitted to post their views on any subject.

Until hes earned his stripes Ricky, hes shall be called Stephen and not Steve. I'm sure his mother would approve.

And there was me thinking you held the man in such high esteem that you refused put yourself on a similar plane by shorting his name.

There is a massive difference between having an opinion and trying to justify your opinion using lies and misinformation.

I'm not saying this has happened in this case, but it does happen quite often.
