do we need to buy a new cb if Samba stays. Wouldn't buying one and keeping Samba stunt Hanleys growth.

hanleys never going too be a top quality prem defender in my opinion, reliabe back up at best, course we need a new top quality centre back as nelsens injury record is pretty poor these days and hes not the player he was, samba if he stays(unlikely to be honest) needs a defender with brains alongside him(sorry samba your not the brightest player).

I stand by what I said.

It's of no benefit to the selling club. I don't believe clubs do it voluntarily.

99.99% of them anyway.

You also know what the original discussion was about. It was about whether Venky's could be blamed for inserting the clause. You used Cryer and nicko as evidence of there being no clause previously, I always said that there must have been.

Your sources have since changed to there probably being a clause before. Which is what I said and all along and you said was untrue.

Now you think you have won a sematic argument when that was never the original discussion.

As I said, you would bring up an irrelevant point and claim victory.

It shouldn't have been that difficult for you either, my mind is on other matters at the moment.

OK, finished felting the shed, so last post on this subject I promise.

Bucky: "A team that doesn't need to sell it's players wouldn't insert a release clause."

We weren't only talking about Venky's, bucky. You and I were talking about any club that didn't need to sell it's players. You said it wouldn't make any sense for that to happen.

I'll make two points then call it a day.

1] what is a selling club? Rovers are still a selling club. We've just sold Phil Jones and Samba could follow him.

2] If you mean a club that doesn't need to sell players to survive, then you're wrong again. I was aware of these clauses being used by Rovers within the last ten years. We haven't been a selling club [by your definition] all of that time.

You say we're not a selling club now, but it's not impossible that Hoilett will be offered one. If he's ambitious and isn't sure of extending his current contract, rovers could well offer him a bigger contract, with a clause that would allow him to realise his ambitions if a top club came along. The other option for rovers would be to see him walk away at the end of next season.

Sorry if it bores some people, but I thought it was interesting, especially with so many posters saying that it's only ever agents and players that ask for these clauses. It isn't - as Nicko has confirmed.

End of, from me.

We sold players to survive under the last administration.

I still don't believe that clubs voluntarily insert them. We have used them before at the players request, that was never in question.

And yes, this is very boring.

It always weakens the seller.

A while ago Norwegian media said we were linked to the Egyptian player shikabala? Is there anything in this?

He looks great..

That link is from waay back. It's just old ###### resurfaced by tribalfootball and the likes..

The tension on here is just unbearable. Diego, Ganso, Robinho? Christ on a bike, we are still Blackburn, we just have a bit more money. These are worldies. In the name of sanity, I follow NorthernRover too, and I can see what he's been writing, could someone in short tell me why he's more dependable than the common hear-say reporter on here?

Not having a dig, just curious.

if we sign Marcelo, and Samba stays then we will have a good solid base to work with.

I agree. I only seen him play twice before against Rangers in the Europe league. Good in the air, techinally very good, abit of pace.

be interesting to see if he will come to Rovers. Wonder if this is a Kean signing on the recommendation of a scout or on advice from Jerome Anderson.

It can't be Marcelo, he signed for PSV last summer. He would cost alot of money. Not the freebee anyway.

He signed for PSV for a undisclosed fee.

We have got between 30 to 40 million pounds to spend. We need a quality centre back to replace Jones.

There are lots of varying opinions on the Jones sale.

For me, there are some on here who are living in cloud cuckoo land. Does anyone really think Rovers could have kept Jones at the club with manure and l'arse knocking on the door ? No amount of money would have kept him at Ewood. There is no blame to be held against anyone. Its called natural progression of a skilfull footballer. Jones opened and learned his trade at Ewood. The credit goes to those who mentored him and the lad himself for learning. yes he only played 34 games for us does it matter ? No it bloody well doesnt.

Phil Jones has been fortunate to be chosen by the 3rd biggest club in the world, that speaks volumes for him and our club.

Now then, some on here are just plain idiotic if they believe Kean and the Venky's could have kept him away from mould t and rfw. It is a fact of life the cream rises to the top.

I wish the lad all the very best and hope beyond hope he fulfills his potential because he could really be the real deal. It may go sour for him with injury or a loss of form but at least he brought Rovers a huge fee for his services, mnoney that will no doubt be reinvested into the club as well as the Academy

It clearly is not about greed its about his ambitions its just annoying as a Rovers fan tht it came a little bit too early in that we wont see him grace our famous shirt for another season or so.

Yet another common sense post, nice one Roverite,

common knowledge, kelbo.. all over the media. you dont need your mate in the know to tell ya that! :wstu:

Not a mate in the know, just a Blackpool fan who was speaking to me earlier.

theres a good handfull of quality british defenders that would come too us and some potentially very good defenders in championship, it just depends how much kean/venkys are really prepared to spend on a defender, i get the feeling venkys would prefer to spend big on a attacking player thand an unfasionable defender.

i do talk a talk crap though and im usually very wrong about such things.
