Let's face it, the only way we will ever sign a top players is either if he...

a ) Is over the hill looking for a last pay day.

b ) Isn't currently playing first team football for a Champions League club.

c ) Isn't wanted/needed by at least 20 other teams in Europe who are a bigger than us.

d ) Is prepared to play for a manager who has never heard of.

Mentioning people like Adebayor, like in the LET today, is futile.

Cole, Yorke, Bellamy, Benni..? Not that much difference now and then, except we now have money.

Added to those

e ) Wants to use us as a stepping stone for greater things

f ) Contacts of Salgado

g ) People who will come for the money (which does not automatically mean they won't play well as they pick up their pay cheque)

You're going back to previous eras though when...

a) We had established and respected managers

B) We were fighting for top 6 places rather than being relegation candidates

c) We weren't a laughing stock around the footballing world because of who are owners were

Added to those

e ) Wants to use us as a stepping stone for greater things

e would mean they weren't already a top player, f hasn't actually got us anyone yet has it and g assumes we actually have any money. A £5m transfer pot every window doesn't suggest to me we do and that this window will be a one off due to the fact we have sold Jones and probably Samba for a fair whack.

There are far more clubs that can offer better wages than us and if we do start offering silly money I would be extremely worrie4d where it was coming from and a Leeds type situation happening to us.

LT list of KEAN targets

Collins & Seb Larsson on the domestic list

Vucinic - High on the list, price around £16m. Also considered Adebayor & Amauri

Miranda - Central defence but agent says still likely to join Atletico even though we offered to double his wages, since been offered Argentinian defender Novaretti

Also mentioned we may get involved in Matt Mills from Reading

Inspiring eh?

Collins as a replacement for the best young centre half in the country - or Samba [whichever one we like to choose] will weaken us. Larsson certainly will do little apart from filling a shirt.

£16m for a striker who averages around ten goals a season.

Battling Wolves for Matt Mills.

We've already lost Jones, we might lose Samba and we might lose Hoilett. We need to be doing a lot better than this.

16 million on Vucinic could be spent on a proven premiership striker, Berbatov, Defoe, Crouch, Adebayor, Gyan, Dembele, Anelka, Kenwyne Jones, Zamora, Rodellega. All of them would be available for less. Im not saying we could attract them players just we could get better proven value.

Never mind the players we are being linked with, the wages being banded around that we are now willing to pay are scary to say the least.

Two big signings could well push us over 100% of T/O.

I don't see Vucinic as the Marquee signing the Raos have talked about to promote their brand ..... has Kean talked them out of it .... doubt it ...... exciting yes ........ but!

Matt Mills would be a good signing IMO, a solid centre half who is good in the air.

Collins? No.

Vucinic? Not unless we sign someone for him to play off.

Hoilett needs sorting asap. If he isn't going to sign let him leave for free at end of the new season.

Samba is probably going to leave so the sooner that happens the more time we have to get replacements in.

Fixtures are out on friday! Seems to come around quicker every year.

Keane hasn't. The LET has. For all we know the list could be a lot different.

Are you saying that the LET may have made that all up without any input from the club?

Or are you saying that the list is an elaborate bluff?

I personally don't see the benefit of saying you have more money than you actually do. Unless of course Venkeys plan one of those cheesy reality shows.

Here are my tips for this summer:

- Kentaro/SEM will make a shed load of cash

- Venky's will find a Ronaldinho/Beckham/Maradona to get themselves linked to

- We will be lucky to have a stronger starting XI in August than we had in May.

That must be the post of the week couldnt agree more

1 question who was Phil Jones agent ???

Collins is steady if unspectacular , did his best work alongside Richard Dunne , but looked weak without him , same could be said of Roger Johnson with/without Scott Dann.Ithink there's better out there but getting them to Rovers is another matter , a position where communication is vital we cant risk a player taking 3-4 months to settle , learn the lingo etc etc

Seems Sams still got his transfer nack.

Awesome signing for West Ham.

Surprised at that one, did not think he would drop down a division (know he is getting older) - had a decent season for Newcastle and can score goals.

I must be the only one who rates James Collins!

I never used to and I wondered what Villa were doing when they bought him, but every time I've seen him play he's looked very good. Maybe I've just seen him on good days, I can't say I've seen him an awful lot.

On Collins - after we were linked with him in January, after not seeing much of him previously, kept an eye on his performances he seems quite solid.

Losing Samba (likely) and Jones means we need, whoever it is, absolute quality – they are probably our best 2 centre backs and both played a major part in us staying up.

Perhaps he doesn't fancy the competition from Ben Arfa, or just likes the banter with The Big_Sam.

  • Moderation Lead

If this goes through, it's a hell of a signing for WHU, though given the strong Allardyce connection it's not that surprising, the only thing is the dropping down a division, but I suppose he is 30! (or thereabouts)
