rebelmswar
Jermaine Jones is twice the player Robbie Savage ever was. Savage was a glamorized Keef Andrews. You can't seriously expect Schalke to accept a bid of only £2.5million for him? you are mad. For pure determination and rabid running, Savage was the man. I feel that his contribution to our team will never be fully appreciated. Jones is good too, saying all that.

gumboots
Joey Barton would cost less than £4m!! And divide fans even more than Steve Kean does.
rebelmswar
Joey Barton would cost less than £4m!! With fines, hospital bills (for player injury/beatings and asylum fees,) cost of lithium, and lost wages for the time he spends on his arse in the stands from thuggery induced bans, he would cost far far more than that. Ozz
JJ played very well for us, and I loved watching him do things our midfield had not done in years, namely get stuck in. I didn't realise he was so old (in footballing terms), but I suppose it's a bit like that frumpy ginger bird at last orders giving you the eye when you've had knock backs from the decent looking ones all night-you're so desparate you'll pay what ever it takes. adsfortheblues
Jones is a very good player, put it this way he IMO if given a good season can chip in with say 5goals as from what I've seen of him at shalke he likes to get forward (box to box) and has scored some quality goals in the past. Secondly he could save 5 goals a season from his qualities in tracking back. Thirdly he can pass the ball quite well at time so let's say he could create 2goals. That's 12 goals in our advantage from a midfielder, that could be the equivalant to say 12 points in a season (4wins), that's a lot of points in this very tight league. Add that to his other undoubted qualities such as leadership, bravery and attitude for me I wouldn't be dissapointe if we signed him for 5-6million
Blackburn Ravers
i`d definitely have Barton, I do not condone what he has done by any means but he is a cracking player
bennyboyt11
Well either we consider £6m too expensive and hold out for finding another N'Zonzi, or we can accept sometimes we'll have to shell out for a player. This is even before the factor of Jones wanting to come to us or not. What's Grella up to these days?

philip369
sometimes you can find a cracking player on the cheap. sometimes if he's the right man you have to splash the cash. Swings and roundabouts. Jones might not be the perfect age for some, but with all the young lads in the team his age and experience might be a blessing. £6m is high, but not silly money
RibbleValleyRover
Yes Phil Jones has HUGE potential, but he is far from the finished article, at the moment we still have our best defender at the club. Not the finished article but still a better player than Collins. Jones out Collins in = Rovers are weaker even if Samba stays. Benjani > RSC > Vucinic/ Amauri/ Adebayor Thats the way the striker hunt seems to have gone since last summer, yet people still moan....it takes time, but we seem to have increased our ambition thats for sure. Adebayor is totally unrealistic and Amauri really is poor. Vucinic looks decent but we have had strikers with better goalscoring records at Rovers for less than £16 million in the past. I'm not saying we shouldn't look at him but £16m is a hell of a lot of money, perhaps too much.
Hughesy
Who is the this team Nicko no chance it could be us? I wish! Freebie n £60-70k a week, or Vucinic on higher wages, £16m fee and a year younger with prem experience.

They replaced him with a Wigan player. Hence they were "weaker". They haven't done too badly since. Its the synergy of the team that matters. Not it's individual parts. gumboots
Oh well - will give them something else to moan about! I don't moan about Kean but I think I'd be in the anti-Barton camp and would probably never stop moaning about his coming here. I can accept all people say about how good he can be on the pitch as I've seen it with my own eyes, but I still wouldn't want the obnoxious side of him anywhere near my club. He is so potentially disruptive and could so disturb the balance and togetherness of any squad that I think that outweighs his on pitch effectiveness. Not saying footballers have to be saints - who among us is? - but there's bad boy stuff and then there's the serious stuff he's got up to.
The Rover of Finland
After Samba is sold our kitty should be around £30M. How many players are we going to buy? Sad but true it seems like all double figures costing players are unrealistic targets. Of course we can be like West Ham and buy nobodys on big money. Hence they were "weaker". They haven't done too badly since. Its the synergy of the team that matters. Not it's individual parts. And Utd were weaker without him, hence why they won the league with him before he went to Madrid then lost it to Chelsea the next season. They won the league again this year but I would say that was more to do with their rivals Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal becoming weaker over the last two years. Why do you think SAF is going on a mad spending spree now? Ronaldo leaving did weaken Man Utd, they are just lucky to be in a position where dropping a place or two doesn't affect them much. The same can't be said for us.

To cast aside his awful disciplinary record, on and off the field, is just folly. A good manager should always take this into account. And Barton's is so bad, it would be foolish to bring him here. When dealing with a player like Robbie Savage or even EHD, I think fans get too caught up with a players disciplinary record. As long as it's on the pitch, I don't mind a player with a reputation for being a bit of a thug or a dirty player. But Barton is a whole different kettle of fish. There's a very real chance he'll miss playing time because he's a violent criminal.

Uxbridge rover
Are you saying that the LET may have made that all up without any input from the club? Or are you saying that the list is an elaborate bluff? I personally don't see the benefit of saying you have more money than you actually do. Unless of course Venkeys plan one of those cheesy reality shows. All I'm saying is that I think the papers write their opinion on who we might be getting (after lots of browsing this site tbh). Doesn't mean to say its right. I am probably way off the mark though.
