den Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 chucky...whilst i agree with you and den on the potential fee for JJ, and i know that you have not mentioned anything about his abilities as a footballer....but den, JJ was not bought to be a creative force in our midfield. he was bought to be that box to box player that we have't had for god knows how long. supposedly that creativeness is left to dunny, junior and any others that we care to mention. 3.5 million for JJ at a maximum and i would definetly have that. i want the guy back anyway. so chucky, lets buy the guy purely for his physical qualities. his engine is outstanding, we all know that and he has proven that he can cut the mustard in the premier league. is it not life on this board that we are (some of us)always harping on about players not having experiance at this level....JJ has well and truely quashed our fears on that front. lets get the guy in. I'm not sure whether you're agreeing with me or not BBDU. I said 2.5 - 3m. You said 3.5m.

hi-jaq Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Jermaine Jones is not worth any more than £4m, but it depends on his club wanting to do a deal. Yes we would do well to sign him, but I don't know if anyone noticed but towards the end of the season how hard he was trying to score a goal... I've never seen anyone (including Robbie Savage) cover so much ground in a game... it was unbelievable!!! He is exactly the same kind of player as Robbie Savage. Technically, not so great... Work rate & desire, more than anyone we've had since Savage (or Dickov for that matter). The problem we have is that we are dealing with a club that knows his value to us & they will be after top dollar, and we will do well to get a good deal from them. However signing Jermaine Jones will never solve the "Playmaker" issue we've have had since Tugay retired. Yes we have an abundance of players who can play "in the hole" but there will come a time where we will need some craft & guile from different areas of the pitch, and I think we still need a top quality central midfield player to provide this. David Dunn could play that role a few years back, but not anymore. Stevie N'Zonzi & Jermaine Jones just don't have the vision or the range of passing. (There's a fella who plays in Russia called Nikola Drincic, I'd be having a look at him if it was my choice!!!) As far as Mirko Vucinic is concerned I think that since joining Roma he'd been played out of position on the wings & that has contributed to his poor goals to games ratio. As a main striker I think he would come good. In the Premier League, often the difference between strikers who make it and strikers who don't is physicality & pace, and when I've seen him play he looks relatively quick & strong, and he's also about 6"1', so I think he stands a chance at doing well. £16m may be a little much, but still, I'd love to see him in a Rovers shirt. I think we have a very interesting transfer window ahead of us and I've not been excited about one for too long!!!
den Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Each to their own I think for some people it's got everything to do with Kean and the owners. Well explain to me how discussing JJ's valuation has anything to do with slurring Kean or venky's? They haven't been mentioned in this discussion TCO. It is getting very difficult even trying to contribute anything on here, without being "labelled".
Blueboy Downunder Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 I'm not sure whether you're agreeing with me or not BBDU. I said 2.5 - 3m. You said 3.5m. den, i guess it is just me and what i would be prepared to go to....somewhere in that range between both our estimates.
Backroom Tom Posted June 15, 2011 Backroom Posted June 15, 2011 I'd prefer to just leave the discussion as it's pointless and I apologise for going off track. I do think there are some that will complain about and play down any player the current manager brings in though same as some criticised the previous manager. I believe JJ is worth a lot more than £2.5m though which is relevant to discussion.
JW11 Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 ] I would love us to sell Keith for £2m and buy JJ for £2.5m. But in my honest, humble opinion thats as likely as the chance meeting I've always longed for with Pamela Anderson. so you want us to pay £2.5mill for J.J and expect another club to offer £2mill for Keef? yeh ok they are really similar players and all . . .
67splitscreen Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 The amount the deal for Vucinic is looking like costing I would prefer Papiss Cisse. We could not afford him in January but now he is in the ball park, another couple of seasons as he has just had and the big CL clubs will be all over him. 10-12m now could be doubled in a season or two, at 25 he's just coming into his prime as a striker. I've not seen him live, from what I have seen he seems to score from everywhere, technically he looks good with pace and able to create space for himself. Probably not a big enough name for the Raos but at a £ per letter it's not bad. Papiss Demba Cisse. £16
Stuart Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 so you want us to pay £2.5mill for J.J and expect another club to offer £2mill for Keef? yeh ok they are really similar players and all . . . That was his point...!
True Blue & White Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 There's a difference between what someone wants and what they expect JW.
Mattyblue Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Come on Tom. NOBODY had said that JJ didn't make a difference. Even Kean's biggest critics have said 'well he got one thing right at least'.
rebelmswar Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 I can not for a second believe that someone would pay 2 million for Keef. If we removed all his organs and sold them to China... maybe.
DeadlyDirk Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 JJ was pretty vital to us last year, with all the silly prices going around these days who knows what we might pay, at least he's not English. I'd like to say we could get him for somewhere around 4m but if they were demanding 6-7m then he could well be worth it, the comparison to Savage is a decent one. It'll be no secret that we have a bit of cash available so no doubt it could push fees up a little. He's the sort of player we need in our team though I believe, and there aren't too many good box to box midfielders around for circa 5m. Well I'm sure perhaps there are but this one we know what to expect from and I assume would be willing to sign permanently.
Mercer Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Jones did well for us in his position, but he's almost 30. I haven't heard of anyone else coming in for him, he's not a "name " player. I wouldn't want to pay more than £4m I don't think. Agree - key point, not many takers. Therefore, is he that good ?
Backroom Tom Posted June 15, 2011 Backroom Posted June 15, 2011 Come on Tom. NOBODY had said that JJ didn't make a difference. Even Kean's biggest critics have said 'well he got one thing right at least'. I hold my hands up I jumped the gun on this one and was hasty in my comments
Rover & Out Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 It's not that long ago that we paid £4m for Vince Grella, who was at a similar stage in his career. He had a good reputation in Europe but unproven in the Premiership and with a reputation for injuries. Bearing in mind JJ's performances in the last half of the season, would £6m be a bad deal in comparison? Personally, I wouldn't like us to go any higher than £5m but at least we would know exactly what we're getting.
Backroom Tom Posted June 15, 2011 Backroom Posted June 15, 2011 Agree - key point, not many takers. Therefore, is he that good ? Now that's just silly. We know he's that good we all saw it, although I do remember you being the one guy who said he was no good
den Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 I hold my hands up I jumped the gun on this one and was hasty in my comments No probs Tom. We've all done that.
True Blue & White Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Wound anyone expect to get £6m-£7m for E.H Diouf? Because I bloomin well wouldn't and don't see much difference with J.Jones in regards to situation. Both were loaned out (hence are surplus to requirements) at the end of last season, neither are likely to play first team football for their current clubs again and both are the same age (almost). I would be chuffed if we got £4m for Diouf, so I don't see why we should be paying anywhere near £6m for player that is not wanted or needed by his current club.
Speedie Dived Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 The only way Julie Andrews is worth 2 million is if Colombian marching powder runs through his veins
Exiled in Toronto Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Very funny that JJ is apparently worth 40% less than we paid for Savage, what, 5 years ago now?
leerovers1980 Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Alessandro Lucci currently meeting Walter Sabatini. This means Vucinic to Juve. Fact he's agent to 2 other Roma players of no consequence, just been twittered so thought i would post
DeadlyDirk Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Agree - key point, not many takers. Therefore, is he that good ? If there is interest most clubs will wait until after the Gold Cup I'd have thought.
Exiled in Toronto Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Or the same as we got for Kuqi. Course he is.
True Blue & White Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Very funny that JJ is apparently worth 40% less than we paid for Savage, what, 5 years ago now? Who's saying JJ is worth £1.8m?
rover23 Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Provisionally I would accept: Robinson Aurier Samba Givet Warnock J Jones N'Zonzi Hoilett Vucinic Olsson Pavlyuchenko Subs: Bunn, Salgado, Hanley, Krankjar, Formica, Rochina, Kalinic Total spending for that would be say.. Vucinic - 12m Aurier - 3.5m Warnock - 1.5m (They still owe us 2m for him!) Krankjar - 5m Pavlyuchenko - 7m J Jones - 4m Total = 33m.. which is reasonably achievable! If Samba leaves then he could be replaced with either someone scouted from abroad or someone like Nedum Onuoha from City.. for around 4-5m.. and despite what others might think.. Wes Brown at 2m would be a great signing..
