[Archived] Summer 2011 Transfer Window Part One

Recommended Posts

I'd rather we took three or four chances on unknown quantities than blew the lot on a "proven" player. Previous Premier League success is not always an indication of future glory - they could still dislike their new team mates, not be able to play their best with Kean's tactics vs their old club, moan about Lancashire weather, etc.

Official Premier League free transfer list.

We could really improve our squad without spending money on transfer fees having looked at that list.

I didn't realise James McFadden was on a free. We need some depth out wide, he'd be a good player in the system Kean was using at the end of last season.

Hahnemann

Pantsil Woodgate Upson Samuel

Larsson Reo-Coker Vieira Gera

Carew Gudjohnsen

Kamara Benjani

McFadden Zenden Edwards Bowyer

Gardner Gabbidon Khizanishvili Spector

Taylor

You can make two pretty good teams out of that list and still have some left to spare...

Go on then.

Agree with that. But think our leaders have a different vision. If we have 30million to spend i would go and blow 5 million of it on the 5 best kids (16-18) in the country, it's what everyone else does

We need a target to build a team around. That's what we are good at. Think Shearer, Bellamy, even RSC. We get one big name in and set up the system to play to their strengths. If we did go for Bendtner we would do the same, and it would really massage his ego to think he was Kingpin of the team. He would also want to prove old Arsene wrong as well. Clearly he would be linked with a host of other clubs once he started scoring goals, but that will happen whoever we get in.

Just hope we try and aim high, and I mean try (and hopefully succeed) in getting some quality in. Despite what a number of others think, Bendtner is head and shoulders above everything else we have on the books as a striker at the moment. He can hit the target. He thinks very highly of himself. I don't really care about that if we sign him and he scores 15 to 20 goals next season - which he will as the focal point of a new look Rovers team.

COYB!

Now, where's that wine bottle....

What about bringing in Patrick Vieira and Nigel Reo-Cooker?

Ok Vieira is 34 but Salgado is 35....

Vieira was quite good last season and could do a good job defensively and Nigel Reo-Cooker is a class player if Kean can bring out the best from him?

They would only cost wages.

NRC yes, he would be a good buy. No to Mr Vieira, leg's have well and truly gone. We need someone buzzing around in the middle

We've already got the next Vieira. Why buy the old model? :P

I back what Flyde said. I would like us to buy some unknown quantities instead of trying to make blockbuster signings or PL players living off former glories. Talent spotting has been a major success for us in recent years.

Yes exactly right.

There is much talent in smaller countries including Scandinavian countries. These players are cheaper and unknown quantity is still exciting especially if they are young guys with potential.

Agreed as well. We've had a lot of success in doing that and I think it's something we should push on with. Given Kean seems to see himself as a bit of a motivator, it'd be interesting to see what he could do with a couple of untested players with high potential.

Worst choice ever in my opinion Darwen rover. Taraabt couldnt even finish 90 mins in the championship. Far too much of a luxury player. I really think he'll struggle in the prem next season. Id like to be proved wrong as he's great to watch when he's on fire but his off games are awful.

No No No!!!!

Look at his ego after playing in the Championship!!

You think he has the mentality to be a footballer no chance.

He puts on a show for the cameras.. when he realises the team he plays for aren't gonna stroll this division like the Championship he'll fade out.

He's either number 1 or nothing.

I'd put my house on him throwing his toys out of the pram this season cos he isn't as good as Rooney.

Bags of talent.. but hasn't got the mind for it.

(Can you tell I HATE the guy?) Haha

Worst choice ever? On this message board? A bit harsh, I think, Ricky.

I was trying to be a bit more constructive as I felt I am just being negative tonight about potential buys. But he is clearly insane. He thought Real Madrid were coming in for him when Warnock signed him. Know it's a soundbite for the media, but Warnock has said several times that he fines players that pass to him in QPR's own half. Is he currently not kicking off with Morocco? Or has that now been re-solved?

Still can't understand why we're not hearing anything about going for these free agents that are, quite frankly, excellent Premier League players! Larsson, Reo-Coker... maybe even Upson, Spector, Carew on short deals.

And a look over at Sampdoria might not be a bad move either. Palombo and the excellent prospect Andrea Poli.
