[Archived] Summer 2011 Transfer Window Part One

Recommended Posts

Or even a glance.

For me, it's sad but true, but Rovers will spend roughly five million this summer on JJ if we can arrange for him to stay here. As for money available for strikers, are we having a giraffe?

Jason Roberts and Benjani are here for at least the next season and I will be amazed if they are joined by anyone else.

Until this club rids itself of the filth of Kentaro and the untrustworthy noises made by the Venky's, then Rovers will forever be in some form of discomfort.

As for the sale of our players to bigger and better clubs, I have no problem with that, it's the nature of the beast. As long as we stay above Burnley, i'll be happy.

One last point though, I just wish Venky's and Steve 'Mr. Bean' Kean would stop making noises which are clearly false. I find this extremely patronising as a supporter and just wish that the set-up, as opaque as it is, showed some respect for the fans and were honest with us. There is no way on earth that JW and TF would have left the club unless they felt they couldn't work here any more, and as they have left, we should be on red alert as to the reason(s) why.

That's part of the problem at Rovers. Too many people would be happy just to be above Burnley no matter what league we're in.

Good post. Sadly people do not like to hear the truth but prefer to bury heads in the sand. I was all for giving Venkys and Kean a chance - but i also believe we could end up with a season like last season.

So, basicly, you have decided that our transfer season is over and that all has ended by the 5th of June. We will sell PJ and Samba, buy RSC, give an extention to Benjani, etc and there will be no money for transfers. And no one likes Kean!!!

I'm not defending or attacking Venky's, Kean or anyone else. I just think that we have to be reasonable and make our judgement with facts and not with rumours and newspaper tabloyds (even though they might turn out to be true).

from where a good source?

Liverpool are ready to bid 8 mil for dann and sunderland inquire for johnson and was quote 14 million pds. Johnson is not worth 14 mil and dann is worth about 6 mil.

Thats why I said I would go for Bassong or collins. both would cost between 4 to 6 mil. Bassong is up for sale and Collins could be available depending on who is the next Villa manager

Yeah, decent source unfortunately.

Its people who give their opinions as 'the truth' that gets me. A lot of people are very selective with what they choose to believe and what they deem to be facts.

I believe the posters who have now stated that P.Jones wants away are the same people who said that Hoilett was faking an injury in order to engineer a move.

These same posters stated that the squad were all unhappy with Kean during the end of the season and key players wanted out, most of whom have now signed new deals and played as passionately under Kean as they had done under any other manager.

I dont pay much attention to people who claim to have insider information, give us a list of reasons with which to panic regarding Venky's/Kean etc but to then fail to respond when said information turns out not to be accurate at all.

From my point of view, Venky's have until the end of this transfer window before I consider them to have failed or succeeded. So far they've veered towards the former but still have time to gain credit. Right now Kean being in the job isn't as important as the quality of player we have out on the pitch.

If P.Jones decides to go then I wouldnt hold it against him but I would hardly blame Venky's or Kean for his departure. If he's as much of a fan as he says he is then Id hope to see him here come next season.

Just got a bit of bad news. Apparently Phil Jones has a £16 million release clause so we can forget about 20mill+. It's up to the lad to decide now. Hopefully we'll get another season or so out of him but he'll be hard to replace. I'd hope we'd go for Dann or Johnson (or both if we lose Samba) to replace.

I'd imagine putting a release clause would suggest he's gonna want to move at some point

I highly doubt it. There would have been little incentive for Phil Jones to push for such a clause when negotiating a new contract which saw a massive ratio increase in his salary and benefits. Equally Rovers would have been insane to put such a clause in without Jones asking for it and on the back of the interest from Arsenal especially.

I personally don't think we would get £20m for him, just because you never do get what you think your player is worth and any deal would be highly supplemented with performance related clauses (England caps, Prem appearances, etc)

If we get £16m and bung it all Birmingham's way for Dann and Johnson then I think we will have come out stronger in the short term. Those 2 were born to play together, they know each other's games inside out.

Jones will want to move soon but he isn't stupid and won't want to make the mistakes he has seen others make. Staying another season will only strengthen his development and reputation. For Man United to come in there would have to be some development in terms of rio or vidic leaving imo, they aren't going to shell out £16m to then see him sit on the bench the majority of the year.

However if you had said Samba had a release clause in his deal then I would be more likely to believe you. His agent is hankering after a payday and this summer is his shot.

I just hope that Phil Jones doesn't have a £16 million release clause. Otherwise, he is gone. And whoever made the deal with him, is to blame.

One of the best prospects in England cannot have such a low release clause.

Just relaying what I've been told. Regarding the incentive, I'd imagine avoiding being priced out of a move to a top four club would be incentive enough?

The last thing we need is a striker who, judging by that picture, only has one arm.

Why, it reduces the chance of him giving away a handball by 50%

Liverpool bid £18.5 million for Jordan Henderson today.

This is going to be the silliest summer in history.

Anything less than £18.5 million for Phil Jones would be disappointing.

We'll have to take £16m if the clause thing is correct.

I was pretty happy with the amount we got for RSC to be fair.

16m would be pretty bad if this is true. Samba for 16m is about right though.
