nicko Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Any indication on when this clause may have been added? I am trying to find that out.

PAFELL Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Here's the question, without agreeing to the 'clause (£16,000,000) how could he have visited Melwood? Surely in those circumstances that would constitute an illegal approach? He is also with the England U21 team
dubdubdub Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Not if we are an ambitious club. Not when we have owners who say they want the club to be a success. 'Never try to reason with the unreasonable'. Don't worry...I shan't.
chaddyrovers Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 nicko article on Jones http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/LIverpool-Arsenal-Chelsea-Manchester-United-Manchester-City-Blackburn-transfer-news-Phil-Jones-valued-at-least-16m-has-fixed-price-clause-in-contract-at-which-Rovers-must-sell-article744955.html
cn174 Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 He's currently with the U21 squad, so I don't know what the chances are that he'd genuinely be shown around Melwood earlier today. Well according to his twitter he was back home yesterday.
nicko Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Who are the managers who think they are buying PJ. When the owners and the manager repeatedly tell the media that Rovers are not a selling club, that they want to build a team around their young players - yet are willing to allow one to go the first time they receive a possible offer. It does dampen confidence in anything the owners and the manager say. Dalglish and Fergie...dream on. Rovers are NOT a selling club in that they don;t have to sell to balance the books. But they will have to sell Jones if someone hits the figure. And the player wants to move. It's the way of the world Sad but true.
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 I've accepted in all likelihood he is going this summer, just wondering now what percentage from the sale will be available and who we will spend the money on. Talk of Santa Cruz, Diouf and Larsson doesn't exactly fill me with much confidence that the money will be spent wisely. In fact I would say in the case of Santa Cruz and Diouf there is no logic whatsoever in making moves for them.
Kenwoo Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 So because Kenwoo's source says there is a £16m clause, its now fact? Kenwoo - who is your source please? As I've said before; I'm just passing on what I've been told. I'm not just gonna put something on here that some guy has told me down the pub to stir the pot either. If I didn't think it was decent information, I wouldn't mention it because you're setting yourself up. I hope it's false (I'd want 19 million minimum) but if he goes, he goes. No player is bigger than the club and we'll move onwards and upwards(maybe).
PAFELL Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 'Never try to reason with the unreasonable'. Don't worry...I shan't. Nothing unreasonable about wanting your club to be sensible. a clause should not have been written into PJ's contract in the first place.
Roversi Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 if he goes, he goes. even if he does stay he will be gone in january or the following summer. 16 million for a player who has played 34 league games aint bad. Personally, if he leaves im just glad a player with the potential caliber to be the best defender in the world came through our academy and we got a great fee. I know Venky's said that we dont have to sell but ultimatly 16 mill plus the 5 million promised will give us real incentive to get some top quality players. hope he does stay though, he will be unbelivably good on FM 12 when it comes out.
super_arran Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Dalglish and Fergie...dream on. Rovers are NOT a selling club in that they don;t have to sell to balance the books. But they will have to sell Jones if someone hits the figure. And the player wants to move. It's the way of the world Sad but true. So has Jones said he wants to leave?
tashor Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Two by two out they come the flat earth brigade........ Year after year after year and still their tiny minds don't get it...... Oh yes! they know all about the beautiful game due to their own long gone careers or recent found "contacts"........ What part of the inevitability of a transfer when a player can move onwards and upwards to a higher wage at a club with much better chances of glory both in the domestic and international fields do the wise men of this forum not comprehend What would that tell the likes of Junior - oh yes, if you do sign a new contract we will do all we can to stop you ever moving if your golden chance comes along....... If you have a forum of third division posters you will end up with a third dividion messageboard...... How would that help motivate anyone to be hungry at Rovers and try to reach their highest potential?? All we can do is try and maximise the performances of our talent while we have it/ sell as well as we can/ get a reputation for the best young prospects in the world to be able to showcase their talents for us in the top league on the planet......... Are you all on the wind up or are you really as naive or demented as you sound
beerwins Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Maybe if Venky's had brought in an established manager when they should have we would'nt be having this conversation, but hey ho it's just another in the long line of players that have left Rovers to better their career and improve their chance of playing for their country. I expected this a while back but cant help feel with an experienced man at the helm we would have been attracting big names not losing them.
PAFELL Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Dalglish and Fergie...dream on. Rovers are NOT a selling club in that they don;t have to sell to balance the books. But they will have to sell Jones if someone hits the figure. And the player wants to move. It's the way of the world Sad but true. Maybe Phil Jones wants to move because he has no confidence in either the owners or the manager. Why would he want to move from a club he supports. Understand wanting to test himself - but we are supposed to have owners who want to build a team around players like PJ - and claim to have the money to be able to do so. Why allow or even insist a clause be written into a contract. Seems a very unwise and stupid thing for the owners and manager to do.
nicko Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 So has Jones said he wants to leave? I understand he wants to activate the clause if the figure is reached... Seem to remember saying it might be a mental few days.
AggyBlue Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 So has Jones said he wants to leave? Major disappointment in Jones wanting to leave when he's not even put in a full season. I'd have thought he would have given the club a few more seasons.
67splitscreen Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 With so many showing interest this is going to drag on for weeks + the international, possible five clubs could all meet the price then all the personal terms, he's not going to be playing much golf for the next few weeks. Poor soul, do these pro's never get a break.
chaddyrovers Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 When we get 16 million pounds for P Jones plus what we get off the owners then we need to strength with Quality players. First we need a replacement centre back, sign J Jones and QUALITY STRIKER WHO KNOWS WHERE THE GOAL IS AND will score between 15 to 20 goals a season. Then add a couple more players aswell. If Jones goes then we need to keep Samba for sure!!!
roversmum Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Nothing unreasonable about wanting your club to be sensible. a clause should not have been written into PJ's contract in the first place. Easier said than done. Remember Bellamy?
Paul Mellelieu Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Major disappointment in Jones wanting to leave when he's not even put in a full season. I'd have thought he would have given the club a few more seasons. We get used to our best players leaving. But at 19 and a Rovers fan! That's got to be a first. Then again with Kean and Venkys in charge, I'd be out the door.
Roost Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 [quote name='AggyBlue' timestamp='1307398848' post= I'd have thought he would have given the club a few more seasons. Why would you think that? Rovers fan or not, there is no loyalty in football.
OJRovers Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 If he goes to liverpool he's not going to be winning the league nor playing champions league, would be a waste, if he goes id like it to be Barca.
Backroom Tom Posted June 6, 2011 Backroom Posted June 6, 2011 If what Nicko believes is true then a key point to note is it has to be £16m STRAIGHT CASH. Now this could play into our hands as if the clause didn't exist and we got £20m you could guarantee it would be structured with clauses not straight cash.
rovgers Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 The kep parts of the article are that PJ has said he wants to go and that it says rovers are adamant they will not sell for less than the club record £18m banked from Roque Santa Cruz's move to City two years ago. Actually, if you read the article the key part for me is the use of the words " Jones is believed to have". To me the word "believed" translates into "we're guessing"!
PAFELL Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 If what Nicko believes is true then a key point to note is it has to be £16m STRAIGHT CASH. But we have a manager who has said he wants to buy RSC. Talk about fools and their money easily parted. If we had straight cash and we had a manager who knows what he is doing - then maybe understandable and exceptible accepting the money. But !!!!!!!!!!!
