Nothing unreasonable about wanting your club to be sensible. a clause should not have been written into PJ's contract in the first place.

Maybe Phil Jones wants to move because he has no confidence in either the owners or the manager. Why would he want to move from a club he supports. Understand wanting to test himself - but we are supposed to have owners who want to build a team around players like PJ - and claim to have the money to be able to do so. Why allow or even insist a clause be written into a contract. Seems a very unwise and stupid thing for the owners and manager to do.

His old contract might have had a clause written into it of a lower figure. And maybe he wouldn't have signed a new contract with no clause in it.

All conjecture, but so is what you're saying. Why simply assume that Jones is an angel? You seem to believe the world is full of goodies and baddies. Black and white. Well the world is grey.

Christ, there are some hysterics around here.

Phil Jones has a fixed fee in his contract. In the same way that Damien Duff did.

Yes, it looks a bit lower than you would want...but that was clearly agreed by ALL parties.

Must admit I'm irate. Kean himself has been quoted as saying that it would take the largest bid we've ever recieve for Phil Jones to be sold. This is clearly BS as both Duff and RSC had £17 mil clauses. Given that Duff was our last bright young thing and was sold approx 8 years ago for £17 mil, you would think (having allegedly just extended his contract that) a much bigger clause would be in there. In my eyes now Kean can not be trusted.

Please tell me Kentaro didn't negotiate his last extension...

It is similar to the Duff saga in many ways, player grown up with the club, doesn't overly want to leave etc. Last time our manager failed to spend the money wisely, I pray it this one won't waste it on financing deals for the likes of RSC.

One thing will be interesting, seeing as Kean has 'bigged up' Formica & Ruchina recently, will these be pushed forward as ready made replacements for Hoilett...

To be honest and IMO, the fact he's a Rovers fan won't enter the equation and even though I don't want him to leave you can't really blame him. It's ok saying that he should stay another year or two but if you were him, would you risk getting an injury that could scupper that "big" move?

Can't see what difference a potential injury would make? We'd offer him as much in wages as anyone (like we did with Bentley) and he's guaranteed them for years anyway.

Will you boo him when he comes back?

Not sure myself, disappointed a Rovers fan who has had a good few months wants to leave already. Does he now owe us anything?

Did somebody say recently 'Rovers are not a selling club' No need to sell to buy. What a load of rubbish that was.

No wonder Kean was saying 'we have a good budget'.

Why did Kean have to warn PJ about not moving? Why would a player want to leave a club he supports?

We are not a selling club doesnt mean we have players on release clauses though does it....its the only way they can get some players to sign contract extensions.

As for a fan, i dont believe that sh!t and never have deep down, NO Fan would leave us after hardly featuring for us, and no fan would be happy to only get his club £16m when he is classed as the best young English prospect.

Not if we are an ambitious club. Not when we have owners who say they want the club to be a success.

Clauses doesnt say not ambitious, he may well have had a clause since he 1st broke through, which we probably upped in Feb when he extended on extra cash.

But did we actually get £17m for those two??

£16m for a player who has a total of 45 appearances for the club shows:

a ) How well Jonesy has played

b ) How ludicrous modern day football is.

If he goes, we re-invest and move on.

Note: In recent years numerous players have left Ewood for "bigger" and "better" things, yet away from Ewood, in the media gaze, careers can rise and fall. Duff aside, we've had the last laugh (Sutton, Bellamy, Bentley, RSC, Warnock).

Who is to say this won't happen again?

He's already had one long term injury and who's to say if he got another injury his dream (like most players) of playing for one of the "big" teams might disappear.

Your also saying that if he moved it would be about the money, I'm not saying this won't be a factor, but IMO if he was to leave it would be more about trying to win something or play at the top level (C/L). So it won't make any difference what we offer to pay him.

According to wikipedia and reports at the time - £17 mil for Duff £17.5 mil for RSC.

scary eh.

Im aware of the 'reported' figure but I think it was less. Think Duff was £15m + add-ons amounting close to £21m and RSC - £15m in 2 parts and then £2m add-ons

Before renewing my season ticket I'm going to see how pre-season pans out.....Last season was terrible and we literally did scab it in the end, but then I thought if Venkys keep their promises, next season could be quite interesting. If Samba and Jones go the fact is we won't bring in better quality than those 2 so we are moving backwards. I still think Kean is useless and just because we had 1 good 45mins of football in the last quarter of the season it doesn't change that!

Think we are currently in the calm before a very big storm!

I really can't understand how some people can't understand that we are not top of the teams in England.

When a player negotiates a new contract, it is quite normal to have a release clause. Happens in 99% of the clubs and there is nothing a team can do about it. You either accept it or you don't renew their contract and let them the player leave for free.

Thank you Mr sensible.

We have never had a player who is being courted simultaneously by Arsenal, Man yoo, Liverpool and probably more. It's the chance of a lifetime for Jones and he'd be a fool to stay becaue he will know more than anyone that injury can scupper this kind of move. And he's only moving because he doesn't like Kean - right.

i'd go if i was in his shoes

can you honestly say you wouldn't???!

the bigger question is will the money be reinvested in suitable replacements

Point is, we don't want to settle for an endless cycle of relegation scraps and we want to push on as a club. We want the owners and the manager to show ambition and try and build a team and a club that can keep pushing for the top 10 AT THE VERY LEAST every season. We are currently looking at a situation where we are very, very lucky to have a crop of youngsters who seem to be the real deal and these youngsters are supported by experienced, international quality players such as Samba, Nelsen, Givet, Salgado, Pedersen, Emerton and Robinson. We're looking at very solid foundations to build from and all we need to do is strengthen the current team and have the manager churn out consistent enough results to see us push on in the league.

The possibility of both Samba and Jones being sold, and Hoilett deciding not to sign a new contract with us is extremely worrying because we will be losing key players that are at the very heart of our team. Players will be available to replace them, but question marks will be over whether or not they will want to come, and whether or not they can perform to an adequate standard. This is something none of us want to go through. We have established players, good enough to be playing for the top clubs and we do NOT want to lose them under any circumstances.

People have talked about the negativity on here and I'm happy for people to put a positive spin on things, but for me personally, and I'm sure I'm not the only one, this is a very nervous time to be a Rovers fan. The inexperience and uncertainty of Kean as a manager and the potential of losing key players is not a good position to be in right now. This is especially the case because I feel we have a squad that is good enough to compete against most teams in the league and with a bit of investment can quite easily be turned into a top 10 team.

We have heard talk of the plans Venkys and Kean have for Rovers, I'm interested to see what they're able to do and I hope they succeed in their endeavours. The foundations are there, now the management just needs to take us to the next level.

I honestly wouldn't, but then I hate every other club in the English league. If I was forced to leave I'd move abroad.

Money talks. When renewing his contract pay him an extra 5k a week to push up the clause which his agent would have wanted in there for sure so we arent held hostage for the best player to come out of our academy.

I was expecting 20-21m for him otherwise.

Also, nicko has even said it we have 5m to spend yet we've been talking a big game about signings. Logically it looks to me that him leaving + 5 or so million will give us our transfer kitty. Venkys may add a little bit if needed. But how do you replace him without breaking the bank too?

Very disappointing. I cant say I blame Jones too much. We wont be able to know definitely but maybe a more stable structure at the club with the right people at the helm and we wouldve had at least 1 more season if not 2 out of him.

What message does it give the other players when a 19 year old feels its time to leave? Worried about Samba, Olsson, & Junior most of all.

You'd have thought that since we have been selling our best players since Shearer (under Jack's tutelage) and have been including clauses in players contracts for a very long time now, that some of the naivety may have been dispelled. But it seems not. The bottom line is that probably every club outside the top 4 (and even those) get held to ransom by players (Rooney and for example), and that includes them insisting on clauses in their contracts. It is no more the current owners or managers fault than it was any of the others. It's a fact unfortunately. I hope he stays but it is looking unlikely. If he goes then I hope we use the money wisely but I am no more hopeful about that as several previous managers have had windfalls and not spent it in the best of ways.

Sunderland planning to sign Gibson and Welbeck with Henderson's fee apparently.

If Jones is going we should hijack that, they're both exactly what we need.

They are both absolute rammel.

Well that 16million will tie up the deals for RSC, 50 cent & JJ. Hold on while i get the party poppers and streamers.

Typical Rovers, typical bullshit we have been fed from Kean and Venkys.
