A 'top club', we are a top club.

You mean the clubs that have all the dosh and will be at the top of the table year in year out. Any player with quality now HAS to play for one of them, the media and agent demand it. No other club can ever complete- unless a billionaire Sheikh rolls into town.

I despise football at times.

United fans say Gibson is seriously over-rated.

To be fair, they are used to watching the likes of Scholes, Giggs, Anderson, Carrick etc. strut around their central midfield.

Gibson isn't up to their standards but is definitely top half Premier League quality. Put him in more modest surroundings and I reckon he'd shine, he's got all the attributes you want in a central midfield player.

Yes we will reject every offer that is under 16 mill but that won't stop clubs like Man U trying it on to get the best deal.

I suppose it depends how desparate clubs are to get him and from what nicko said last night no club has bid the 16 million yet.

Other clubs will try it on to get the best deal, offering 10 - 13 million knowing we need to get another player in. We can reject these offers but at some point a big club will decide to take the hit of 16 million but I guess they will only do this as a last resort which will be in August.

I could be (and probably will be) wrong but it is just my theory.

I see where your coming from, i just dont think it could drag on that long, even if clubs are trying to get him cheaper. If a club is serious about him it wouldn't take much for them to discover his release clause (we know about it!) and then they will realise they wont get him for less. Up to them if they stump up the cash.

You do put a good point in however, if they all cooled their interest till later in the window and then come in with a late bid, we would be screwed, but with that many clubs seemingly interested they will all want to get in first.

I can see this being completed by next week.

A top club i.e. one that lives on its past glory and hasn’t won the top division for longer than us, one that only managed 6th last season and isn’t in Europe next season.

I just don’t want him to join the Scouse thief’s, I could understand a player Joining United, City or Chelsea as you are likely to play in finals every year and be around the premier league/ FA Cup & champs league titles…..not at Liverpool you’re not.

Didnt they qualify for it because Swansea won promotion to the PL?

Am I the only one who is slightly more angry with P.Jones himself then the owners or management? A lifelong fan decides to leave the club after only 1 season and yet its the owners who are getting the flak? Pretty sure Roque and Bentley got a very hard time for walking away.

Good luck to the lad but dissapointed nevertheless. Anything above £16m would be a reasonable amount provided its reinvested. One top class striker and a decent CB replacement will do.

We should be trying to keep hold of Jones.

Someone at the club should be trying to persuade him to stay………..

“Look lad, we have ambitious new owners with an enthusiastic young Manager who are looking to build for the future. We aim to be competing for a top eight finish, to play in Europe and to win trophies. Just give us another season or two to prove ourselves, and if we don’t live up to your expectations then you can leave with our blessing (also for a bigger fee, and hence a bigger cut for yourself)”

Who could take him to one side and talk to him??

The question is, who has the poker face to be able to pull that off without laughing?

No it's not at all, he's ambitious and wants to play for a top side.

Blame who you want, bottom line is we cannot fulfill any players ambitions of winning trophies.

It's a ###### state of affairs that isn't going to change anytime soon, with any manager in charge, while we cannot throw millions and millions of pounds at the club

Would beg to differ.

Keeping our best players by having a manager who is widely respected and likely to attract better players to Ewood. If we don't need to sell, as Venky's keep telling us, then someone like Mark Hughes would have contained this situation. Players want to see the club progressing on to bigger things and this is not what has happened since Stephen Kean's appointment 2 or 3 wins in 15 matches is regression.

If the inevitable happens and Phil Jones leaves us at just 19 what would people prefer us to do, look at alternatives around those interested and get the best deal for our club or just take the £16m straight?

Some of the part-ex options below:

United – Gibson, Anderson, Wellbeck, M Diouf

City – Boyata, SWP, Onouha, Bellamy, RSC

Liverpool – No thanks

Chelsea – Sturridge as part of the deal?? Kakuta

Spurs – Bentley, Krancjar, Defoe, Bassong

Must say Liverpool looks like the poorest option for our club….cant see too many wanting to spend a straight £16m cash on him, so we need to use our bargaining chip the best we can.

Worries me that if we deal with City then they will take Jones for something like £10m + RSC….which id be gutted about!

No

As per when they took over - its £5m per window, they then said an extra £5m had been put in + whatever was left from January.

Sell Jones and the budget should be around £26m. (16m fee + 10m venkys)

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you're mistaken. It is only 5million kean has been given. There maybe the chance of slightly more for the right player but that would be taken from next windows budget. As it stands now kean has 5 million to send. Dont lie yourself that all sales will go into his budget either.

Hadn't thought about that. Oh dear!

Would take 3 of the 4 Spuds players, not Bentley though, unless he apologises to the fans.

Remember a certain Mr Shearer? now, who was our manager then? Hadn't we just won a rather important trophy? Tell me. Did we keep Shearer? NO! Still let's not let the facts get in the way of your antiKean/Venky's agenda eh

Hughesy, considering all the conflicting stuff they said are you literally going to hold them to the technicality of the extra 5m? I think its just 5m a window. If anything we spent more during January considering loan fees/wages, etc...

There's absolutely zero chance all funds will be invested in the team, and to think otherwise is just naivety.

I think most if not all will be spent on the team, but will it be spent wisely? I doubt that.

Liverpool HAVE money to spend this summer. They're not owned by Hicks and Co if you haven't realised. They've spent £30m on Carrol, £23m on Suarez, and before you say Torres was sold to cover these, Suarez was on his way long before Torres decided to he wanted to leave.

They've just bid £18.5m for Henderson and our only option where we will get a Cash only deal IMO.

Don't count Liverpool out this season.

You've got a point, but remember that Shearer was only allowed to talk to Newcastle because he supports them.

Anderson? Really, if man utd are willing to let him leave, we should be all over that.

Underlined the players i'd be interested in. Defoe and Krancjar would be class signings, cant see that happening tho.

If Chlesea came calling Sturridge would have to be part of the deal.

They sold Torres for £50m to cover both of those two, they also let Aquilani go out with the hope they would get £8m back, and sold Babel for £7m too!

As for Liverpool this season - If you wish to back them with £500 that they will win it, i will be willing to back the same amount to say they wont win it. Dont be like the deluded scousers....Henderson is no world beater :tu:
