[Archived] Summer 2011 Transfer Window Part One

I'm not saying the clause wasn't renegotiated but that says to me a clause was inserted during the last regime.

It's good that they aren't happy about it. If indeed it is true.

The LT says the clause was inserted in January. Which would be under Venky's watch.

Who by?

I'm not trying to be a d**k but as I said with the release clause thing; I wouldn't post something which I thought was idle gossip. Could be bad info but I think we all know Anderson would have made money off our transfers. I was just shocked it was that high. It's not a new thing to the club. I believe Allardyce turned down a number of signings as they weren't with agents with whom he'd 'work'. I just hope it doesn't affect our recovery if we lose Samba and Jones.

So Anderson should work for nowt then?

Say we do get £16m for Jones then according to Nicko we would have circa £21m to spend this summer

I think it is a MUST we keep Samba if we lose Jones and re-invest the money in:

J Jones (his bite will be even more important after Phil Jones leaves)

An established striker (not Roque and not Kenny Miller)

A second striker (not Roque) – possibly a void for Hoilett / Formica / Rochina to fill?!

A young centre half

Larsson (seeing as he is on a free)

A young right back

If we can do that off the sale of one player then I suppose in the long run we would have to see that as progress wouldn’t we if nobody else from the first team leaves?

Yes that's exactly what I'm inferring. If we spend £3m on Formica and under a million on Rochina, then get two loan signings and then you hear that Anderson has earned £3 million from those deals, whilst the relationship between Anderson and Blackburn is being carefully monitored by the F.A would you not be concerned?

Yes Cryer also says the clause will have been there for ages - just upped in January with the new contract....so perhaps the contract was simply to get us extra Cash?? Which makes you wonder even more about Samba, did we just protect our assets abit more then too??

Freebies - Larsson, Ba, Upson

J Jones if its no more than £6m.

Daniel Sturridge

Not in the online version Hughesy.

It is understood the clause was inserted when the 19-year-old signed an extension in January until 2016 – soon after tentative enquiries from Chelsea had been turned down.

I have no idea why but Skybet are making us the favourites to sign Kevin Nolan.

Sky Bet:

We make Blackburn 4/1 favourites to sign Kevin Nolan following reports that he has rejected a new contract from Newcastle. Aston Villa are 6/1 and Sunderland 7/1 to secure his signature. Bet here.

I dont see why he would come here after we sacked his mate, and i am also sure he was asked a question in a column he wrote for the beeb about which club has the worst kit, and he said ours.

No on twitter

As for Nolan - he hated us, so no thanks!

Yes, but the trustees were always aware of any contract clauses, as would be Venky's. If they weren't, they certainly should have been. It's their club.

The usual suspects, there is a thread round here somewhere highlighting the FA are "monitoring" our situation.

I believe it was raised, based on a peice in some tabloid rag, in February and nothing has come to light yet, the FA do move slowly though on such things.......apparantley.

Amazing. We have posters on here saying that Jones wouldn't leave if we had a proper manager, conveniently ignoring the fact that we've had players leave in similar circumstances under the last few proper managers - RSC, Bentley, Bellamy, Duff for starters. I notice that proper managers didn't manage to keep them. We also had players with clauses under the previous regime and ownership, including the scandalously low Bellamy clause, and we sold players who DIDN'T have clauses, so all of a sudden why are the current owners getting flak for this?

We're spliting hairs Den. I sense you are widing up to give Venkys a good volley when Jones slings his hook. You're in good company.

Deal!!!

Larsson: average prem player

Ba : medical issues / high maintenance

Upson : slated by the WHU fans for having no heart

Jones : quality, but history of issues

Sturrige: potential to become a worldie - bigger than us

Who'd be a football manager!

I'm not splitting hairs DGS.

The owners have the final say in contract negotiations and player sales - and so they should. It was like that with the trust and it's like that now. Anything less and they would be negligent.

Why would I name people? I've posted that on here to contribute and so fellow fans are aware what MIGHT have gone on. I wouldn't bother posting if it was something I'd heard down the post office or from some newspaper gossip column.

Re the F.A thing. I understand it was brought up in a newspaper article and raised on here around February but I think there were whispers of it as early as January.

What is sad and depressing is people thinking picking up people like Upson would be a replacement for Jones/Samba...

Why not have abit of ambition for a change and sign some players who can genuinely improve the squad? Johnson and Danns are good players but to be fair, they have just been relegated and the club want, imo, silly money. Johnny Evans at United is very well thought of by Sunderland fans when he went their on loan, i think he could do well here. A young right back to learn from Salgado would also be a wise investment. Might even be worth looking into a proper left back.

If JJ is too expensive take a look at Craig Gardner who is in the same mould, box to box and chips in with goals. James McCarthy is a cracking young footballer who is only going to improve, he would slot nicely in with Hoilett and Olsson.

Upfront we need to spend some serious money on someone who can provide goals. Ba imo is a no brainer with his pace and power. Defore or Sturridge would also be an excellent investment as both are quick, natural goalscorers.

Ideally id love us to pick up Johnny Evans, Liam Ridgewell and Nathaniel Clyne / Chris Gunter for the defence. Craig Gardner and James McCarthy for midfield and Ba with either Defore or Sturridge upfront.

Well, the owners may have understandably thought that a 5 year contract with a £16m clause for a teenager with less than 50 games under his belt was a pretty sweet deal. I suspect Messrs Williams and Finn would have advised them that this indeed was the case. Now, in the fullness of time, £16m looks like an underestimate. This, of course, absolutely delights some on here although I suspect that you aren't one of them.

Have we ever been linked with any of them? Everybody we're linked with currently is so depressing.
