Only £16 million for Jones?.Surely Clause should have been £20-22 million.People running your club seem clueless. How hard can it be to run a football club properly?.

Does anyone know which clown agreed to a £16m escape clause please? The individual(s)ought to be shot.

Anyone with a smidgen of sense would have seen the potential of the lad and that his value would increase.

Whether we like it or not Jones will be going, I just hope that we have a bidding war to push up his price. We have seen no money from Venky's yet (apart from a few £ for pies , burgers, other crap food, and cheaper tickets at Wolves) and I expect that plyer sales will provide the only real funding for our forays into the transter market.

Wow he's had a breakdown! Great reading.

Calling himself "Unparochial Vinjay" just serves to lampoon himself.

But Vinjay's biggest problem is he thinks Jack Walker created Blackburn Rovers - it's no wonder everything since has been such an abject disappointment to him.

But a bidding war wouldn't make sense - if he really does have a release clause for £16m, then every club in the world could bid £16m and every club could speak to him.

The only auction is going to be for Jones' wages, signing on fee and agent fees.

'Parochial Paul' still makes me

He has to realise that Jack's era has gone, never to be repeated as football has changed from all recognition.

Phil Jones is a judas :angry2:

"Judas" is maybe a bit strong but it's not too far off my perspective on it, if he goes he's hardly given us years of great service like Duff or even Samba.

I still can't believe we gave him a new contract in January for more money AND a paltry 16m release clause in. If there was no release clause in his old contract we'd have been better off saving some money and not giving him a new contract at all.

I suppose the matter hinges around whether or not there was a lower release clause in his original contract which Andy Cryer is hinting at in his twitter feed.

Cryer didnt hint at it. He said there could have been possibly BUT I doubt there wouldve been one on his first professional contract as there couldnt have been the leverage. He was given a 3-5 time wage increase and we know that we rejected 8 million last summer too, so are you saying he was on 5k-10k and had a clause at about 10m and we increased it by 6m and trebled his wages? Doesnt make sense.

Strange that, I could have sworn we paid a combined 4m quid for Formica and Rochina who could turn out to be exceptional talents.

Plus RSC's wages of 90k pw. for half a season (nearly 2m) and Jones' wages as well.

Substantially more than "a few quid".

Plus it beats me why people are continuing to knock the subsidised tickets and free food. It seems to me that Wolves put one over on our well meaning but slightly naive owners on the food front knowing full well that

a) Demand would be so great the majority of fans would be unable to get served. (Iwas in that boat AND I missed Hoillet's goal in my vain attempt to get some free grub!.)

b ) Most fans who did get served would not be able to spend £10 quid on non alcohol related items only.

Thus guaranteeing Wolves a huge profit on their 27k.

They were still imo extremely generous gestures by our owners nonetheless.

I know that Jones is the best player to come through the youth ranks in quite a while but are we guilty of rating him a bit highly?

16mill is good money but he is only showing potential and promise at the moment. I personally think Jones is a good player but has he really done anything that special? Grabbed a game by the short and curlys and dominated? Had a top player in his pocket for 90mins as opposed to winning plenty of ball and a few decent runs? He plays with 100% effort and looks great when we are up agaisnt it and fire fighting but I think Fergie bought the right young English centre half.

Time will tell. Well done to the club for developing a player worth £16 million but I think cashing in on this while he is in demand is the right move for us. Spend it wisely and we will be a better club as a result. One season of patchy form or a serious injury and his value could be next to nothing, and the money to improve is too important now in my opinion.

Who's moaning? Wolves profiteered from it, but it was the kind of gesture that Rovers have been known for and I thought it was a great sign that it is continuing- as are ST prices.

Cant help but feel that Venky's strategy was to lay out some money in january knowing that there would or have to be a full return on it in the summer. Only a thought, but they certainly dont come across as having shed loads of money which seemed to be the impression they gave off when they first came.

Hows life on the Wirral?

the disappointing aspect of it all, is that the owners are clearly not showing enough to convince our top players, that we will be a force in years to come.

There is the problem for Phil Jones….he is young & impressionable and will no doubt have Fergie/ Kenny telling him they can make him an England regular and he will have one eye on Euro 12 and WC 14 – sitting around here for a couple of years, he wont see as good for that aspect, as everyone knows once you go to a glamour club you’re in the light more.

Iceman, spot on.

The owners came in and talked a big game, but if they cant convince our own players to stay, then what hope for top 8 players?

Yes, Jones would have left one day, but most are in agreement we could’ve seen him play here for 1 more season at least. I never imagined he'd leave this summer. To add insult to injury, the fee is much less than we expected.

£16m for someone not long 19 isnt bad, its just frustrating as we can see how well he progress. But 2 years on the Munich bench could seen put a dampener on that. His agent runs the get out fee, not us.

We have seen no money from Venky's yet (apart from a few £ for pies , burgers, other crap food, and cheaper tickets at Wolves) .

Rochina - £1m, Formica - £3.5m, combined wages of £150k a week for RSC & JJ….no course not.

When was the last time the trust spent £5m without recouping any money??

I think there is some concern as to where it has come from, to be fair this is a legitimate concern.

It appears as though there is a hefty transfer budget available even before player sales...

We'll have to watch this space.

BPF, now that we have a budget sorted (even if its dubious as to where its come from) and kean is in india (today?) can we expect to be pushing forward with targets shortly?

Can I point out at this stage that Man U have YET to reach the £16 million figure...

Fergie thinks he can get him for less. Said as much to TWO friends in the game in the last few days.

I was hoping this might get resolved early. Perhaps not.

Liverpool have not reached the figure yet but may get there - although I think that would prompt Sir Furious to hit the figure too.

At this stag it looks between these two.

On one hand you want a club to hit the figure and sell him because it gives you cash for better players.

On the other if nobody hits the figure you keep the player.

He is two players in one. MU for instance need replacements for Ferdinand and Vidic but if they can still limp along for a bit longer Jones can add much to their midfield with Hargreaves and Scholes out of the way. He could easily be the man for the deep midfield holding role that they have craved for since Roy Keane's pelvis disintegrated. Fletchers good but no better than Jones imo and not as strong in the tackle.

As far as swap players? I can't really see that. Cash on the nail I'd imagine. Otherwise how will our criminal overlords in Switzerland manage to skim anything out of a swap deal?

Nicko, I think you know full well that we will sell P Jones to Man United, for around 8mill and M Diouf in part exchange or something to that effect. ;) Its bound to happen, and fergie knows that baldy wants M Diouf desperately. I think if that deal happens, then Kean will have to pack his bags and leave the club.

Wonder how much we might have left if we waste it on @#/? like RSC, Diouf and giving Benjani a new contract?

Selling Jones will make us weaker especially longer term in defense, I just don't see us bringing in someone as good as Phil. I guess we just have to hope that we bring in a solid enough replacement and spend the cash in midfield and up front, but not on RSC and Diouf.

On Fergie thinking he can get him for a fee lower than the clause, let's say the player becomes unsettled and demands a move but the club holds firm. You think the club will want to keep hold of an unhappy player?

Good old Keithy! Perfect time to flog him I think...... Or should we put a 16m release clause into his contract too?

Then came Andrews' stunning strike for the Republic from a short free-kick move after defender Alessandro Gamberini's foul on Long.

Hunt played it short to Andrews and, after a steadying touch, drilled a low shot past Viviano's despairing dive and into the bottom corner.

crap, Kean will probably thinking, why do i need to sign anybody, when i have Super Keef

Would this be a good point to remind everyone that Diouf was signed by Big Sam at a time when the fun-loving Trustees were only allowing loans and the like while the tried to sell the club to a door-to-door salesman???

I don't see Keano taking him back...I hope the same applies for Roque.

BPF gave you heard anything on what the budget could be?

Are we talking 15 million before transfers?? :D

Nicko can you shed any light on this?

Surely the "mystery budget" is nothing more than venkys looking at the market and saying we are guaranteed money from the samba/jones deals, here you go Mr.Kean go knock yourself out in the transfer Market?
