Mc Love Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Nicko - can i ask you a question, but its one of those questions that even Merlin wouldnt be able to answer....How is Kean so "tight" with the owners? Why is he so loved by them? I will never know!!
67splitscreen Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Kaka, Robinho, Neymar yes please.. You forgot Ronnie, 'Barry' may still be dreaming and there is a link today he is wanted by Al Shrtjah. 4m Euro.
PAFELL Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 As pointed out by GAV in the Steve Kean Thread. Would you not "trust" him with your money? He's spent money on Rochina and Formica, one of whom looks very promising and the other is very much an unknown quality. He's bought in J.Jones who was one of our star performers since January. Roque was the only "gamble" that didn't come off. But why does he still want to buy him? Bad enough having him on loan and paying his huge wages. But to give him a contract - even though he has done nowt. There are times when a player can be signed - who ends up being a flop. But Kean has already seen RSC is a flop, yet still wants to buy him. That is utter madness.

Nicko said this morning that no club has reached the magic number of £16m.
Gav Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Also just want to make the following points clear: 1. This is what I have heard from two reliable sources. 2. This is posted without an agenda. 3. It is (surprisingly) not anti-venkys. Although I am slightly worried about the source of the cash. Only in that I don't know where it has come from. It will be interesting to watch the transfer activity unfold. Its good that the news from an ‘inside source’ is positive for a change, if maybe a little exaggerated, but we’ll see.
nicko Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Nicko - can i ask you a question, but its one of those questions that even Merlin wouldnt be able to answer....How is Kean so "tight" with the owners? Why is he so loved by them? I will never know!! Because they deal with him on a regular basis. Took a bit of stick for backing the guy, but if you ever met him and listened to him and watched how he does his business he is impressive. He knows what he wants and is willing to put himself out to get it. Of course he has made mistakes - every manager does. Signing Roque was a mistake. He wasn't the only one who thought he would magically click at Rovers. He SHOULD have signed a better striker. It would have made all of the difference. However I would back the guy to be a success. But you need players and results to prove that 'hunch' right. Oh, and he needs to be careful when it comes to who pours his drink in the manager's room after games.
Ferrit Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Can I point out at this stage that Man U have YET to reach the £16 million figure... Fergie thinks he can get him for less. Said as much to TWO friends in the game in the last few days. Cheeky, arrogant ******** Ferguson. If they bid less than £16 million i'd be telling them to clear right off, in no uncertain terms. £16 million is not enough as it is, without someone coming in and take the mick. As for people calling him Judas etc... that's a bit off for me. If he goes go, so be it, I won't blame him. What would you do in his shoes? We have a joker for a manager, and will realistically be struggling next season if the transfer targets said joker has mentioned are deemed to be the talent we're looking at. I wouldn't blame him in the slightest.
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Of course he has made mistakes - every manager does. Signing Roque was a mistake. He wasn't the only one who thought he would magically click at Rovers. He SHOULD have signed a better striker. It would have made all of the difference. Well he clearly hasn't learned from his mistake because all recent quotes from the man himself suggest he wants him back next season.

Nicko, if he is as good as you say, why is he still pursuing his mistake. Is it just media speculation that he wants RSC on a permanent contract? Being a Rovers support, I never want any manager - Kean or anybody else - to fail in his job at Rovers. But pursuing RSC is not good in anyway shape or form. Is he doing it because he thinks the fans want RSC at Rovers? Cannot think of any other reason why he would pursue RSC.
Ferrit Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Oh, and he needs to be careful when it comes to who pours his drink in the manager's room after games. This is an absolute classic if that's what his "not guilty" claim is backed off? Hahahahah... good luck getting away with it Steve, absolutely no chance. I can see it now: "Er Guv, wasn't me, someone must've slipped a couple of shots of JD in my coke and ice without me noticing"
nicko Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Well he clearly hasn't learned from his mistake because all recent quotes from the man himself suggest he wants him back next season. I sincerely hope he is just being kind to Roque...and Benjani for that matter. You sometimes say nice things about people...when you know you aren't going to see them again.

He might prove us all wrong next season, hopefully your 'hunch' is a good one
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I sincerely hope he is just being kind to Roque...and Benjani for that matter. You sometimes say nice things about people...when you know you aren't going to see them again. I could understand that if he had said it just the once but he has come out with comments since he originally mooted the possibility of Diouf, Santa Cruz and Benjani coming back next season. It could be the case that old quotes are being re-published but from I gather this is not the case. I'll admit I have major doubts about Kean and If I had the choice of getting rid I probably would take it as it currently stands. I am open to being won over but bringing back the likes of Diouf, Benjani and Santa Cruz won't achieve that.
Iceman Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I sincerely hope he is just being kind to Roque...and Benjani for that matter. You sometimes say nice things about people...when you know you aren't going to see them again. Does this mean, that we wont see Kean again? Mrs Desai has been very nice to him, and she does say alot of nice things about him.
Oklahoma Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Meanwhile, in other sites, there is this: Hengbart claims Rovers and others want him Jermaine Jones wants to be a Rover for good
Backroom Tom Posted June 8, 2011 Backroom Posted June 8, 2011 To me resigning benjani makes sense, roque and diouf are gone along with kalinic hopefully. We can't be signing 3 or 4 new strikers
LeChuck Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I'd much rather we only bought one centre half, moved Givet to centre back and bought a proper left back instead. Having (for example) Johnson, Givet, Nelsen and Hanley as centre backs is a strong selection. If we could add Stevie Warnock or someone at full back, I honestly think we'd still have a very strong defensive base (but with an extra £20 million or so in the bank).
Exiled in Toronto Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I sincerely hope he is just being kind to Roque...and Benjani for that matter. You sometimes say nice things about people...when you know you aren't going to see them again. I have to say that is how I read his actual quote on the subject. What he said was a long way from "I'm really want to sign RSC". What would be the point of publicly saying, "What, that tosser? No chance!" We wouldn't get many players on loan if that was the parting shot.

What would be the point of publicly saying, "What, that tosser? No chance!" We wouldn't get many players on loan if that was the parting shot. The thing is, everyone on here thinks Kean is an idiot and they know so much more. When in fact Kean is very highly regarded within the game, regardless of what people on here like to say. He knows what he's doing.
LeChuck Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 When in fact Kean is very highly regarded within the game, regardless of what people on here like to say. 'in fact'? Utter nonsense. If he was so highly regarded, why was his last job in the Championship and why was on he on dole before we gave him a mere coaching role? He wasn't even our assistant manager. He wouldn't have found it so hard to get a job in the PL if he was so highly rated.
jim mk2 Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 When in fact Kean is very highly regarded within the game, He knows what he's doing. Can i quote you on that ?
nicko Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I could understand that if he had said it just the once but he has come out with comments since he originally mooted the possibility of Diouf, Santa Cruz and Benjani coming back next season. I'll admit I have major doubts about Kean and If I had the choice of getting rid I probably would take it as it currently stands. I am open to being won over but bringing back the likes of Diouf, Benjani and Santa Cruz won't achieve that. I am aware of only ONE end-of-season briefing. All of the quotes since seem to have come from that. Roque is on £90k a week. Even if you did want him, how would you make that work? Jermaine Jones is the priority to sort out...the others are getting the 'pat on the head and thanks' treatment. I hope. He wouldn't have found it so hard to get a job in the PL if he was so highly rated. Does the same apply to Sam?
Torgeir Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Oh, and he needs to be careful when it comes to who pours his drink in the manager's room after games. What did you give him? I think perhaps saying nice things about Roque and Benjani might be because signing strikers is the most difficult of all transfer dealings. If we don't succeed to get our targets (again) he might have to turn back to those old workhorses - no need to be saying negative stuff. But Kean does seem to like to exaggerate a little, as well as completely lacking a poker face. Good to see you still have faith in him, nicko - you know him better than most on here. Even though you're biased as a Scot
Hughesy Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Kean brought in J.Jones, Rochina, Formica and Roque in January. Jones looked class, Rochina looks like a very tidy player and Formica is one for the future. Roque was a flop and Kean didn't play him. Why are we all assuming Kean can't pick out players to buy? On the basis of January he didn't do too badly. Spot on - RSC was an obvious risk to take considering his 1st spell with us, it didnt work out - but it was only a loan (currently) But why does he still want to buy him? Bad enough having him on loan and paying his huge wages. But to give him a contract - even though he has done nowt. There are times when a player can be signed - who ends up being a flop. But Kean has already seen RSC is a flop, yet still wants to buy him. That is utter madness. According to Cryer he thinks also that we are playing games and Kean has better targets lined up than RSC. Fingers crossed its just a case of being nice. Good to see JJ wants to sign too.....probably the best central midfielder we have had for 2-3 years.
