[Archived] Summer 2011 Transfer Window Part One

Recommended Posts

BPF- IF Venkys don't invest a significant amount of money in this transfer window then they will not have support come January- we are June plenty of time to line up targets and purchase players- make or break time for them now.

Don't make me laugh. If they end up spending nothing over the summer, this board will be full of sympathisers begging to give them until January. it's always the same.

I know there is no loyalty in football but I know I'd find it hard to do what Jones has done 'as a fan'.

For me that video makes it pretty obvious he is not a fan.

Definitely just went to the league cup final as a daytripper

Nicko - why £15m?? £16m was too cheap a release clause with all the interest and Jones' talent so £15m is ridiculous!

£16 million.

Sky Sports News can only be relied on to get the time of day right...

I totally agree BPF but I'm not surprise these days in football.

we have seen RSC, DB and SW leave and have gone backwards in their career. Hope this doesn't happen for him.

I thought that Phil would stay around at 'his club' for at least a couple more season.

But he hasn't, so we just got to move on as fans and as a club.

Yep would find it very hard. SKY REPORTING ROVERS HAVE ACCEPTED 15 MILL, yet there was a 16 MILL CLAUSE. It really would reveal more bad management if we allow somebody with a 16 mill clause to go for less than the clause.

He barely sounds like a fan there.

Couldn't say his first game, who he went with, where he sat, all he could mention was the cup final!

He's either the most boring person in football or all this boyhood fan @#/? is just that, @#/?! Described the Cup final as a "great day out" and used to go watching "them". I don't think I've ever referred to Rovers as them in the context in which he is speaking about the club.

I could be completely wide of the mark but to be honest I don't really give a crap. Jones has shown that he's just your run of the mill modern day footballer. If he wasn't English nobody would bat an eyelid.

Have to agree - as with most fans it has always been my dream to play for Rovers - never going to happen - with age and ability getting in the way  However, if in the fortunate position that Jones was in - I would have given it another couple of seasons at least. As with Shearer - I would have also had a gentleman's agreement with the club - that if I decided I wanted to go I could - but I would always have ensured Rovers got the best possible deal - and not tied them down to transfer clauses.

Having said all that - IF we can pursuade Samba to stay another season at least - we still have good cover at centre half. Don't think Nelsen is as good as Jones - but he still ain't half bad. With Givet as back up - and hopefully Hanley to come good (he was rated better than Jones at one point) - it isn't the end of the world (though extremely disappointing - and possibly the start of an exodus that could be more damaging).

Who are the good contracts? Martyn Glover, etc?

Surely Kean must listen to the scouting department who look at alot of players?

Wouldnt like to get too specific but although the scouting department is still running at Brockhall they have had no say, This sounds

crazy but just when you thought all had gone quiet on the Mr Anderson front hes slipped back in and is still pulling the strings.

believe what you want but thought id have a little input!

Imy, there will always be people laughing and saying "the sky's falling in" because people are concerned about the club.

But they aren't real fans. Just people who may have a passing glance at the telegraph, or watch the highlights on MOTD.

Or they are too young to have ever seen the club fall on hard times before and don't believe it will happen.

But lets face it BPF, you've already told us we have 20m + the Jones money to spend so no need to worry, so happy days eh :D

Jones is gone and we have money. The problem is Rovers cant sign real talents or really good players on best age. Only average players and has been players will be signed I am afraid. Samba would like to go but will any club spend double figures or even close on him? Spurs maybe.

We simply can´t lose Givet now, no matter how unhappy his wife is in Lancashire. Junior probably will sign new deal but there will be this release clause I think.

How Rovers spend this summer will effect big time for coming years. Stupid buys now who only plays for pay check year or two would mean £16M throwing away. I would like to see Rovers buying JJ permanently and really a good strikers. One or two free agents also. If Samba goes we need a centre back also.

Personally, I think the fact that Jones is a target for the biggest clubs in England represents just how good a club we are at nurturing the youth and also that our Academy is now in fine hands.

I am pretty much disillusioned about him going but the reality is this, how can Rovers keep a player of his quality when the big guns come knocking ? Answer is they cant. If Jonesy progresses further with Manure, then they will also become a victim of his success because itr wont be long before the really big guns come knocking on their door.

Its a dog eat dog world, its going to happen with clubs such as Rovers and you simply cannot blame Rovers or Jones himself for making the sale/move. I wish him all the very best.

Plusses for Rovers are that the Academy gets the recognition, it works and it allows for other players to come to Rovers and find the ticket to first team football. Youngsters at other clubs will recognise this and take Rovers over the so called big clubs where they might not get a chance.

The club gets a huge transfer fee for no outlay other than wages. I just hope that the club spends wisely.

There is no doubt in my mind that barring injury, Jones will captain England. We as Rovers fans can still be proud that he began his career with us and it was our club that set him on the road to glory.

Those clowns that berate him and the club for this are simpy just that, CLOWNS. There is no blame to be held against our owners, our manager or players and staff, Fergie wanted him and that club, loathe them or like them, are always going to get the cream of the crop, thats why they are Englands number 1 club.

Anyhow, ther may an incoming player from Manure (not BMD) to supplement the sale !

Rovers should now go out and secure Nigel Reo Coker (free), Upson (free) Johnson (7m) and Defoe (7m) Bentley or Larsson to supplement the midfield as a matter of urgency.

Outgoings should be formalised asap.

if Samba is also going then theere are many other players that can can be purchased at a reasonable price leaving Rovers still in profit with funds in the bank.

Stop whining about it and get over it, its a fact of LIFE Rovers will always have to sell to the major powers of English football.

I'd rather we bought a left back than another centre half for the sake of it. Move Givet inside, get JJ signed up and FOR GOD'S SAKE GET SOME FIREPOWER UP FRONT!! (Roughly translated don't sign up RSC or MBD) :D

What a pathetic post. I remember the old days, the pre Jack Walker days. But this is a new era. We are supposed to be moving onward and upwards. But there are no signs of that happening.

Jones has gone now. I think everyone needs to avoid dwelling on the situation. That's football unfortunately and I think we saw the last of the 'local heroes' a long time ago. Blackburn Rovers are bigger than Phil Jones and we'll move onwards. My only worry now is how we'll spend the money and who exactly is making the decisions on who we sign. Up the Blues!!

So who is picking the players to sign? Kean or JA?

But are the scouting department still suggesting players to Kean? plus are they having meeting with Kean and JA?

But they did not have to sell. The owners are said to have money to invest in the team.
