[Archived] Summer 2011 Transfer Window Part One

Recommended Posts

Much of what you say is quite correct but on the flip side, and this is my worry, if we lose Samba as well, what message does this send out to prospective transfer targets?

Come to Rovers and if you do really well for us you can get a move to the likes of Man Utd and Arsenal making both you and us a lot of money as an extra added bonus???

Plusses for Rovers are that the Academy gets the recognition, it works and it allows for other players to come to Rovers and find the ticket to first team football. Youngsters at other clubs will recognise this and take Rovers over the so called big clubs where they might not get a chance.

The academy has done well and it would be nice to think that maybe some of the money will be reinvested there. By all accounts the academy are struggling as it is to attract top youngsters as we do not have the funds to compete with other clubs. It is not unusual for the top 14-15 yr olds to move clubs for upward of £600k.

Oh, and he needs to be careful when it comes to who pours his drink in the manager's room after games. ;)

"btw I'd wager he had a few too many glasses of champers with the old RFW after the match. Prob at Fergy's insistance too! After all who could refuse a drink at the request of the great man? The true 'Guvnor', a footballing megastar, a night of the realm, a fellow scot and one who had just smashed one hell of a footballing record. Until recently SK would have been packing the players off and making sure the match balls were all present and correct and the tactics scrubbed from the board etc etc. Instead he's drinking at the top table with a legend.

.... I'd not be suprised if Big Sam actually paid for the champagne too ..... before he called the police to report the number plate of a car being driven erratically down the M6 southbound. "

Warm or cold?

£16m banked from the sale.....if you honestly believe we would have sold him this early for less than the clause then you are as daft Stroke boy.

With £10m from the next 2 windows also - thats no less than £26m available....+ any other sales if the likes of Diouf, Andrews, Grella leave.

Forget Jones, he's gone - lets get cracking. Forget the defence for now, target attackers.

Start here Gervinho is going to England - less than 12 months on contract

Also get into those freebies, Ba, Upson, Reo-coker, there are plenty around.

Andrew Cryer has just say on Talksport that rovers try to keep Jones but he wanted to go.

More in the LT tomorrow. will be a interest read

Casts new light on the "sold against his will in January" suggestions.......

Reading bewtween the lines these last few days it seems to me that the in the know brigade may have been fed some ###### on that one.

The main rumour flying around from United fans is that it's £13m + Mame + possible bonus add-ons - i'm guessing things like international appearances

Don't be daft. He'd be mad to have turned that opportunity down. Scholes is an Oldham fan, Rooney an Everton fan and their careers would have been at a much lower level as would their talents if they'd stayed put.

It's not the players who are at fault, nor is it the respective clubs it's the entire Prem / CL set up which has rendered every European league into an uncompetative sham, a carbon copy of the shambolic Scotish set up which is completely at odds to the best interests of 80% of every nations football fans. We have been herded around by the media money men just like so many sheep.

Cheers for the reality check Theno.

Why do people keep harping on about Upson? For crying out loud the guy is rubbish, been overrated his entire career and any Hammers fan will tell you the guy is spineless. I wouldn't take him if they were paying us, let alone on a free.

Keep him well away from our club please.

As for the Mame rumours, if that's true i'll officially be fuming.

The potential incoming player from Manure is NOT MBD although there is clearly others that have linked him as part of the deal with Jones. The player in question is a very good associate of MGP. Rovers are NOT the only club in for that player and it is NOT Wes Brown or Johnny Evans.

To be fair, most people who knew about the alleged January deal didn't know whether or not it was against his will. They mainly claimed a deal had been done in principal, before he was injured.

A friend of mine just asked me why do rovers players always have clauses in their contracts. Says alot in my opinion.

No other clubs seem to lose their players in this way. £16 million is alot but these days it doesn't stretch that far. Henderson going for £4 million more is stupid. I'd wager Jones will be far more successful.

Having this clause in his contract was ridiculous. He is a homegrown player and shouldn't have been to hard to sign on long-term without a clause. Whether he had one in there from the previous management or not who knows. But we are a real soft touch.

As for Jones. Its not good that he has forced our hands with the clause. He could have at least allowed the club to get his maximum value.

For Gods sake not only do they take Jones but they give us that mug. He's never going to cut it at the top level. I'd wager this is what the delay is over though.

Highesey you know I love your optimism but I think I'm with most when I say I wouldn't get our hopes up about big wads of cash being spent. I'd love us to be in for Sturridge, Ba etc but I just can't see it with our current Management and owners.

Is it a good deal?

If we are looking for a young goalscorer, we should try for Kolbeinn Sigþórsson. He plays for AZ and he is only 21. I am not sure on his price, but I feel he could available for under £10 million.

Why don't you say? I'm thinking it could be a reserve player or youth player?
