Looks like the news has got worse then.

There is a very good chance we are going to end up coming out of this transfer window a lot weaker instead of being stronger. I think we are going to struggle to find two central defenders of their quality in our budget and willing to come to the club. We still have other areas that need to be focused on as well, money really has to spent on several key areas.

Lot of pressure on Kean and the owners to make very good use of this money, if they don't and we struggle then whatever support Venky's and Kean had will be completly eroded.

Venky's will have taken a huge PR hit by the loss of both players, they should never have promised that the "Days of Rovers being a selling club are over" when they clearly couldn't back it up.

I actually think that well be ok without samba / jones... Providing the following...

We need a new CB but Nelson and Givet can do a good job there in my opinion, we do need a LB however..

We also need to nail jermaine jones as he is sp significant in aiding the defence.. Then we need to buy one maybe two new strikers..

Forgot to mention providing we have the £33m to spend on players?!

Jones and Samba are better central defenders than Nelsen and Givet.

No way we can rely on Nelsen for a full season, is there any guarentee Givet will be here next season? I thought he was going back to France?

What a depressing day.

I'd rather it was all done and dusted now rather than feeling the pain in August.

It gives us time to hopefully rebuild.

If Samba leaves for Arsenal, you couldn't blame him. He's been a great servant and player. He's got 4 great years in him and the chance to play champions league football and at the top end of the league cannot be turned down.

If Jones and Samba leave, good luck to you.

Start of a new chapter lads, lets hope its a good un!

We need a "football man" in the club....we've just got rid of one of the best in Williams, I fear theres too many people

getting involved who know nothing about football. If we do indeed sell both Jones and Samba I do not believe Kean has the ability to

persuade players of such calibre to come here. He is a yes man and says exactly what the clueless owners want to hear. A decent manager would have a chance of getting us out of this mess but im afraid Kean does not come in to that category!

I dread to think whats going to happen tomorrow!

I don't buy all this "selling club" nonsense.

The lad has a release clause, this has been met, the club have no choice whether to sell him or not. You can argue all you like about whether there should be a sell on clause in there but it doesn't change the fact that there is one.

As for the player himself, I would be annoyed if he went to Liverpool, Spurs or Arsenal because they are all trophy free zones. He'd only go to Man City for the money, and he has chosen guaranteed silverware at Utd. Fair play - I would make the same decision despite my blood running blue and white.

As many have said, it depends what we do with the money now!

Presumably, Jones had his medical at Bridgewater Hospital, Manchester where there's a sports' medicine team (covering separately, upper limbs, lower limbs, feet & general physician). These guys are at the cutting edge and sh!t hot - if Jones had a problem, they'd have found it over 6 hours ago.

This is going to be a fantastic chance for Venky's and Kean with Kentaro/SEM to show everyone how good they are.

At this rate we are going to need to be buying 2 central defenders, a left back, a right back, couple of midfielders and 2 or 3 strikers.

Thats a lot of players we need, record turnover of players this close season I think.

Last season we had 4 or 5 good CBs (depending on what you think of young Hanley) and not a single worthwhile forward. Selling both Jones and Samba, while painful (I love Samba, and Jones has really fantastic potential), is probably the best way to improve the squad short of Venkys selling to a Russian oligarch. Obviously, there are a lot of questions if we have the owners/management to bring in the right players but so far I think it's a sound strategy.

Richard Dunne and Matthew Upson to replace them? Both relatively cheap, and both vastly experienced. Can they still hack it in the PL?

No offence like, but I was nearly sick at the thought of those 2 at the heart of our defence, both are terrible!!!

If we sell both Jones & Samba then we should be splashing some cash with the £33m we should have available.

I kno I'm dreaming here, but anyway... Neven Subotic from Dortmund along with Mammadou Sakho from PSG get my vote to replace them... those 2 would be immense!!!

By the way if we don't sign Jermaine Jones, we need to be looking at Moussa Sissoko from Tolouse... what a player!!!

I have news that Hoilett is going to sign a new deal.. From a great source..

On another note.. this night has been so draining.. its worse than deadline day!!

Just what I could do with right now, a bit of good news :)

YAY

Gutted about Jonesy but genuinely wish him well. Trying to think what I/most people would do in his shoes... Wish he'd stayed longer though.

The Samba news is not exactly unexpected but I still don't like reading it.

I just hope we can pull a few rabbits out of a bag...cause with no Tom Finn, no John Williams and a few player exits...it feels absolutely hideous to be a Rover. Let's hope the Hoillet stuff is true.

Glad I'm heading off on holiday tomorrow, away from TV and internet and having to watch Jonesy unveiled with a manure shirt :(

Selling both Jones and Samba is probably the best way to improve the squad .

Except that it will cost a fortune to replace them - and the replacements are likely to be worse players. See the post above - Brum want £14m for Roger Johnson who is nowhere near as good !

These are worrying times indeed if we lose both Jones and Samba.
