Thanks Ricky, all that you have posted are indeed genuine concerns. The obvious difference between myself and someone like Nicko is that being a teacher and not a journo, my BS sensor in this field is not as strong as it is when listening to excuses for not doing homework.

Just one thing though. I don't think that it is out of the realms of possibility that Jones was given a second medical. I had expected it to be all wrapped up last night. Also, I'm happy that it's a cash only deal.

As I understand it, it's a straight cash deal. Also medicals can now take 2 days when paying that much for a player. They do bone scans and allsorts apparently.

So we offer yet another contract to Jones and he turns us down for United- clearly Venkys/Kean did not want him to leave. The only positive I can see this morning is the news (which has been confirmed) that every penny from the fee will be spent- this is clearly a shift in policy from the Trust and should be applauded(if it happens)

in the days of Hughes and allardyce and the walker trust if a player was to leave we always made steps to secure a replacement , Samba has been making noises to leave and the interest in Jones first came in January , so surely Kean and kentaro etc have already been scouting possible replacements and if we have now accepted a bid for Samba those replacements will already be lined up and be in the club shortly.................................................................... <_<

Same Telegraph article states that we offered Jones 65000 quid a week to stay and he went to Manure for 50000. Bit of a joke aren't we?

No we're the same as every other club faced with the pulling power of a Champions league club, and especially one with the appeal of Man Utd. Playing for a champions league club has become the big thing for players now. Read what all young stars say when thye want to move - I want to play for a club in the champions league. The fact that they'll probably only get a run out when the club has qualified for the later stages and is playing what is effectively a dead rubber doesn't occur to them - they are still at a Champions League club. We'd be a joke if we sold Jones to Villa or Samba to Sunderland but Man Utd and Arsenal - Only a handful of European clubs are bigger than that and I'd go as far as to say I think Man Utd probably have a bigger following worldwide than even Real Madrid

Love this site at times.

“James Collins oh no, rubbish blah, blah, blah.” “Lets sign Bassong and Upson….”

James Collins has been consistently good for Villa, is isn’t fancy but will stick his head where most people wouldn’t stick their foot. Good solid player and one who id much rather have here than Bassong who by my reckoning has had 1 good season at Newcastle then been sat on the Spurs bench.

Just to throw another name into the pot, Luke Chambers at Forest. A younger Michael Dawson, cracking player.

All in all if we could get say Collins, Chambers and Clyne in I think we would have some decent options at the back.

If we could keep Samba we wouldn't actually need to buy another centre-back--Samba, Givet,Nelsen and Hanley is good enough for our modest ambitions provided we strengthen elsewhere--particularly left-back.

Trouble is we are not likely to keep Samba and could lose Givet as well which would leave our defence in tatters. And it was the defence which kept us up.

Should we lose Junior as well, presumably on the cheap because there's only 1 year left on his contract, we are surely doomed.

I have no faith in Venkys or Kean to acquire the right players to give us a squad as strong as last season's and we only avoided relegation with them on the last day.

As an example, Daily Telegraph link us with Joe Cole (see below)----wrong side of 30, nothing left to prove, a complete flop at Anfield. Add the likes of Miles Anderson and anyone on a free and I really fear for our future. P***ing away the Jones/Samba money is so likely.

Im sorry but how does offering him more money show that we are a joke. It clearly shows that the club wanted to keep him and not just cash in on him as many would like us to believe. He had left us for one of the biggest clubs in the world. No shame in that. The fact he has accepted less money to do so shows Jones in a better light as it shows his true aspirations. Winning and not money.

Couldnt agree more SR.

I actually think that £16M for Jones and potentially £12M for Samba is very very good business, especially that the vibe seems to be that this will ALL be available for transfers on top of the £5M promised.

This could bring in a top class striker and two repacement CB's and even a good midfielder for good measure.

Good luck to Jones. Good riddance to Samba - he has wanted away and has been hawking himself around for long enough now.

One Love - BRFC

"bit of a joke" referred to all the points I was making eg being linked with Cole. Fans on here have listed many players I'd be delighted to see us buy eg those various Spurs mid-fielders. But is there any evidence that we've ever been linked to any of them?

You clearly have faith that it will be spent well. Why?

I think the only thing we can all agree on is that we are going to overpay for whomever we bring in to replace Jones and possibly Samba. Kean has been pretty vocal about having a healthy budget coupled with the fact that we are about to receive 16 million so clubs are gonna see this is a good opportunity to play hardball.

Why don't you have faith?

We've spent money on 4 players the last transfer window, 1 of which is showing real potential in the reserves(Rochina), one who the jury is still out on(Formica), one every Rovers fan wants to sign permanently (Jones) and a crock.

3 out of 4 isn't bad.

Allardyce, Ince, Hughes, Souness all made mistakes.

Vinjay hasnt deleted his account on twitter....he is now known as Unparochial Vinjay

Anyway forget him, forget jones....get thinking of potential to sign.

How about Kieran Gibbs for left back, or Kyle Naughton for Right back?

Also what do people think of M Diame from Wigan, he's still young isnt he??

Yeah I saw that he changed his name - such a tool!

The most important thing is that we dont get ripped off or pay over the odds for players! Such as Croque - I really really dont want us to sign him

Talk about putting a positive spin on it. J.Jones is the only player who has been a success so far, Formica hasn't played, Rochina might have shown some decent touches but he will have to show a lot more next season to prove he is a success. The Roque loan signing was a disaster both on the pitch and off it financially (90k per week). Diouf didn't look like a premiership standard striker, more like a Championship one.

Under Hughes I would be pretty confident that we could end up starting next season a bit stronger, he had an eye for talent especially bargains. Kean? The jury is still out. This transfer window will make or break him and probably the owners as well in the eyes of the fans.

Being realistic, that's more like 1 out of 4. Jones is the only player that had a positive impact. Formica didn't get a look in and Rochina, who has indeed shown promise, hasn't done anything to suggest his transfer has been a success. No need to comment on Crock.

How can losing two or our best players and having to reconstruct the entire defence be "good business" ?

Unless Kean has identified cheap, top-class replacements abroad (which I doubt) It will take £20m - £30m to replace Jones and Samba (assuming they both leave). Birmingham are reported to want £14m for Johnson and, knowing we have cash to spend, Villa will probably want the same for Collins - and neither are in the same league as Jones or Samba.

Basically, the club is going to have to spend alot of money just to stand still - and that is assuming of course that Venky's are true to their word and won't trouser the cash.

Presumably Kean and the owners have known for some time that we might lose one or both of these players so i would also expect replacements in quickly and not last-minute panic transfers in the middle of August.

Only need one cb with the players we have use the money to buy a top striker we should have around 40m to sepend in the summer its a decent amount to bring in whats needed.

RSC was a risk worth taking on loan, he was quality for us 1st time, he knew the players, the set-up etc, you would have expected him to do better – he didn’t.

Formica – Has a left wand according to some and was signed for the future, so lets see.

Rochina – Earning rave reviews in the reserves, quickly settled – again sign for the future so again lets see how he progresses.

J Jones – Super signing, better than any midfielder our managers have signed for the last few years.

M Diouf – A sam signing, did ok, could have gone better but when played upfront, he did ok.

So of Kean’s id say 1 top signing, 1 who failed but you could see why we took a chance, and 2 kids (who need time before being written off) – 1 showing massive potential, the other impressing the other players in training and on the fringes of the Argentina squad.

Two of the top four clubs look like between them will take our top two central defenders, why?

Because in SAF and Wengers opinion they are the best available, now we have to get two centre backs who are not quite as good and at what cost, having a healthy transfer kitty is one thing but even looking at the minimum, we need 2 centre backs, 2 midfielders and two strikers, thats 6 players, strikers of any decency will be a minimum £10,000,000 each, people on here are talking of Johnson at £14,000,000 and we stil need one more defender minimum and two midfielders, more importantly, they have got to be the right players and then, this is the big part, they have to gel together as a team and thats not always very easy.

Like I said on Formica, you can't really comment on. Rochina has so far been very very good in the reserves and had at best a decent outing VS Everton. He is definitely one for the future.

So 1 success, 2 for the future and 1 failure. Don't see the problem in that.
