Whoever keeps mentioning Gibbs, get a reality check. He is viewed as the future Arsenal left back for the next decade, and Ashley Coles successor in the England team.

If/when Samba goes we need a whole new defence.

Massive summer ahead

My last point regards Rovers as a club, in general, and some of the fans who are completely deluded and do not realise that we are always going to be at a disadvantage as long as the current systems remain in place. And by that, I refer to the enormous pots of cash offered to the very few teams at the top of the game. Some of the comments such as 'selling again...I hate Venky's' or 'they're bleeding the club dry and cashing in' are ridiculous. Rovers have always been a selling club (even during the glorious years of the mid-nineties) and that will never end. The challenge is to continue to develop even more players and eventually the club will grow organically and take care of itself (as it is arguably continuing to do so, with the sale of Jones - of course you have to be an optimist to see this).

As much as I have been bemused by some of the recent goings-on at Ewood, I am certainly in favour of Kean wanting to develop more and more players and to grow the club organically, from the inside. Sure, we will sell of these players as time goes by, but the only way to compete as a club like Rovers, is to dig in and produce more and more players and continue to better your last success with a renewed sense of enthusiasm and determination, even though we're always up against it. That has always been the Blackburn way and long may it continue because that's what makes me proud to be a Rover.

Nail. On. Head.

The only advantage we have over the bigger clubs is the opportunity to develop youngsters through regular first-team action!

No chance kieron Gibbs is coming here whether JA is his agen or not, it would take a miracle. Let's face if past windows where to go by (under the trust) we would be lining up like this in august.

Robbo

GIvet

Upson

gabbidon

salgado

olsonn

emerton

dunn

hoillett

mido

fowler

But for once we maybe not signing crap like the likes of fowler, mido, gabbidon, upson (just examples), we may actually sign some decent players, but let's not start thinking up unrealistic targets.

Cheers SuperCat, it's only my point of view and i'm sure many other people have differing views. At the end of the day though, i'll still have a season ticket next season and turn up throughout the country, proudly wearing the famous blue and white halves. In fact, whatever happens actually makes no difference to me although it would be nice if we actually spent a few quid this summer.

Just for argument's sake, we already have a ready-made replacement for Jones in Grant Hanley. His performances in the reserves last season were immense, he could have comfortably played for a top championship team on a regular basis. Given a run in the first team, it won't be long before we're flogging him for twenty million (just thinking of inflation!). Anyone who watches the reserves will know why I speak so highly of him.

Bring it on! :rover:

I agree with Super Cat, your post earlier was like a breath of fresh air in the middle of the hysterics !

I haven't seen Hanley in the ressies but he certainly didn't look out of place in the first team when he played. I think he played in a few of the games that we lost but he didn't let anyone down.

It has been a rough week and it could get worse if/when Samba leaves but we shouldn't forget we have some good young players like Olsson, Hoilett, Nzonzi as well as Hanley that are stepping up to the mark. There is also Jason Lowe and Josh Morris who I thought did well in the couple of games that they played.

Hopefully we can get some experienced players in and when we do the squad will look quite healthy.

To be honest, I understand Phil Jones leaving in terms of the bigger picture of his career etc. However, I am very disappointed that he didn't stay on for another year or two where he could have really developed himself with a guaranteed place in the first team, especially considering that we are 'apparently' his team.

Sadly, if a self-professed fan of the club has no intention of staying at the club, then where does that leave the state of English football? The only way in which any equilibrium can be restored is if the fans turn their backs on their clubs, but that's not going to happen is it because we all love the Rovers, win, rain or shine......the future looks very scary.

Regarding the deal itself, I am actually one of the few who believe we got a good amount of money for someone who has only played 35 games for the club. Sure, he has the potential to be a great defender but he's not there yet and he only showed that in glimpses at Rovers. I would actually suggest that with the money we have got, reinvested wisely, it will ultimately lead to a stronger squad next season which is what we need in order to be able to continue to grow.

Alongside the imminent departure of Jones is Samba. Now I am one of many who believed some of his performances in the second half of last season were exceptional, especially considering he had wanted to leave the club. However, if he wants to leave, I say let him go. I would rather not have an unhappy player at the club to be honest and I would gladly accept £12 million, again provided the money is reinvested wisely.

Hey you can't come on here talking SENSE,agree with everything you have said, like you said we have had to sell players even after winning the premiership, with Jack still at his peak,we had to sell Shearer and Jack couldn't hold on to big Colin,Sherwood Le Saux etc,and after Jack had gone the trust had to sell Duff, Bentley etc.Your right most of these so called fans are just blaming Venkys and that's out of order,we all know they are not perfect, but lets see what happens before the end of August, because if they give Keen the 10 mil plus the Jones money and possible Samba dosh,it's going to be one hell of a rollercoater couple of months,so get behind the team and stop moaning, and be thankfull we are still a premiership club,I do think that a lot of people on this board just love to moan, moan and bleeding moan just for the sake of it,COYB.............

Jury is out on Hanley for me. I certainly don't think we can go into the season with him as first choice

Agreed...I went to the aviva to watch him for scotland a few weeks ago and i wasnt too impressed to be honest, looked hesitant and not sure which decision to make...You never know hes still improving but playing well for the reserves is one thing and doing it in the premier league is another...

Cheers RR, Hanley has looked superb all season in the reserves and, to be honest, I was surprised he didn't get more of a chance this season. Having spoken to him in a restaurant a few months ago, he seems to have a very sensible head on his shoulders and knows that the opportunity will come for him just as it did for Phil Jones. At such a young age, to be a full Scotland international is quite an achievement, not to mention the rave reviews that he's received from Levein as being the future of Scottish football.

I still think it's a bit too early for Lowe and Morris but they both seem to have the potential to take the next step up as well at some stage. As for Blackman, I would have kept him for the second half of last season but he is definitely ready to be part of the first team although i'm not sure how far he will go, in terms of ever being good enough for Rovers week-in, week-out.

I genuinely believe that kean will simply use Jones' departure to give Hanley his chance, which is most certainly deserved and makes sense in terms of his development and to be fair, that means we have money to strengthen elsewhere, in theory of course.

Great stuff Unsall. We will all know by the end of the summer, to a large extent, what the Venky's have in store for the future of the club. Totally agree about all the moaning as well, although most of it is probably just pure frustration. It's understandable, although a decent signing in the near future would surely help to appease some of that frustration.

That's true but you can only make the step-up given the opportunity, just as Phil Jones had. I don't think Hanley would be first choice at the moment but as a fourth CB out of four, he would definitely get enough games to show his worth. All he needs is a little faith shown in him, just as Sam had with Phil Jones. He hasn't been given that opportunity yet but he will get it this season, i'm sure of that, judging by Kean's comments.

Seen the 'spending spree' article - it mentions Santa Cruz, Jones as two we want + Larsson? Lazy Journo?

Not written by Nicko either

That article has been entirely formed from this thread.
