I struggle to believe that article is right. And ontop of that, I want rid of the lad now anyway after seeing him sign united shirts. Just get shut and spend the cash well!!

Could it be that there wasn't a 'release clause' in the first place? Instead there was a 'starting price clause' with a starting bid of £16m?

I have to admit I do think this story is probably untrue.

It is odd though that it has been two days since he "joined" Man U without either club confirming yet though.

"Phil Jones who has had a medical for Utd. It seems LFC are forcing Utd to pay more by us offering £19M. Fascinating stuff." - Twitter RT

Fascinating stuff indeed. I just hope it winds up with us getting more money.

Hilarious if this true.

WOuld love it if liverpool pitch in with a 20m bid. Can you imagine fergie's face

Oh yes. His beady eyes popping out, cheeks and nose red, sacrificed cat in the corner.

It can't be true, lucifer would never allow it.

Maybe the actual hold up is they didn't read our end of the contract very well and they have ended up buying Jermaine Jones for £16m :D

That would be fantastic...a player who we want to sign because we don't own them gets priced out of a move to Rovers and we get none of the proceeds because..and i'm reiterating here...we don't own them . Unless you are the one minority who doesn't rate JJones.

Que Sera, Sera,

Whatever will be, will be

The future is Grant Hanley

Que Sera, Sera

Love it! Need that booming across Ewood first game of the season....

As for the Jones situation if we have any leverage then we are going to get more cash as other clubs will be interested. Phil is going to be mighty ###### off but there is little he can do about it.

The only options if the article is correct (and ESPN soccernet is a good source) are:-

1) Jones to make serious theats about not playing to force a move

2) Man Utd/Liverpool etc. to try and find a common value with Rovers

Rovers really in the driving seat in that case as we have all summer to sort it out, a huge amount of interest in Jones (all the top six will fancy him, and they all have cash). 25m might be pushing it, but I could see us getting 22m.

I don't see Keano taking him back...I hope the same applies for Roque.

Demonstrating yet again your genius. :tu:

Today, Steve Kean will be told that his transfer budget is £20,000,000 and this is before the sale of any players. Venkys will also apparently tell him that any money made through sales will be invested right back into the transfer budget. As you have worked out by now, if we sell Jones & Samba for £15,000,000 each, the result will be a £50,000,000 budget.

Posts like that are better than Viagra. :P

It's not that much.

And, how shall I put this, they TRUST him with their money.

Please say its not true?

Kean brought in J.Jones, Rochina, Formica and Roque in January. Jones looked class, Rochina looks like a very tidy player and Formica is one for the future. Roque was a flop and Kean didn't play him.

Why are we all assuming Kean can't pick out players to buy? On the basis of January he didn't do too badly.

1 in 4 is doing badly. But Kean has chance for a redo this coming season.

However I would back the guy to be a success.

Once upon a time I was prepared to back him based on your recommendation. I really hope he vindicates your trust this coming season.

Delighted about Larsson.

Looks far too much like a girl.

Ouch! The girls in your neck of the world must be frightening. :D

SAMBA for the majority of last season was an absolute nightmare . . .

And I'm tired of his talking to the papers about his ambition. If we get any decent fee, he needs to go.

Pardon my ignorance...

If Phil Jones has a release clause of 16m shouldnt the only way for Pool or anyone to logically hijack the deal be to offer 16mill (and not a penny more) but offer him better terms ?

The discussion now is about the wording if the contract. If true £16m only lets you talk to the player. The actual sales figure is still negotiable.

Sounds too good to be true but if we can fleece United, it's a massive shot in the arm for Venkys credibility but it's a gamble as Paul has alluded to.

Personally, if I could afford it, I'd hold out for the max. We hold the ace card - again, if the clause tale is true.

Forget RFW, I want to see the look on Vinjay's face!
