[Archived] Summer 2011 Transfer Window Part One

Just a thought kamy. You say Venkys may not have a leg to stand on. But I also cannot see them being happy with either kean or Jerome Anderson - if these two were involved when the contract was drawn up. Venkys kicking up a fuss could, do you think that could be a good thing. I hope they lose interest in football and Rovers and try to sell the club.

Venky's get slagged off for being ignorant in the world of football but when they actually dig their heels in and take the fight they still get slagged off. This really is becoming tiring. I bet if hypothetically they signed Messi the same faces on here would still moan about something.

Piece in Mail the other day by Ian Ladyman.

Blowing off Fergie saying how fantastic he was at attracting new players.

Been to see PJ's parents, held lengthy disussions with PJ etc. etc.

Funny that when Fergie's been on holiday.

Get Utd to increase offer or we report....like Spurs did a few years ago.

Yeah that would brilliant.

I can see a queue of reputable owners forming already.

I think you may be misunderstanding my post - or I didn't write it clear enough. Kamy refered to the possiblity that venkys may not have a leg to stand on. If that is the case, then Venkys are in the wrong (speculation at the moment I accept) have miss understood how transfer / player contracts work etc. This maybe something that may effect how they feel about football and rovers.

Ok they may also be in the right - if so - good that they are sticking to their guns. for the sake of the club - I hope they are right.

They didnt insert the clause - thats from someone very close to PJ.

Also Nicko already told us Fergie has been in France since Friday....how did he speak to Jones again & meet his parents? Especially if they only bid tuesday this week :o;)

Have checked and Venky's are not happy about the Jones transfer and are kicking up a fuss, hence the lack of any official confirmation, but from what I have been told legally Venky's don't have a leg to stand on.

Might it be as simple as that [as far as I know] the transfer window doesnt officially open until 1st July? or maybe the contract completion depends upon a safe return from u21 tournament with no recurrance of knee injury?

Isn't it obvious who inserted the clause?

The messiah?

People have been saying for years, that as a club we shouldn't just roll over and cave in, it seems that is now happening for once, even if we're on a bit of dodgy ground legally.

Do we need to have a good relationship with Man Utd? No.

Do we have a history of buying players from them? No

Do they have a history of tapping up our players? Yes (Allegedly)

Has Jones been tapped up, Yes, interesting to note who by (Allegedly)

Ferguson was quick to stick the boot in when Allardyce was sacked, so he can get ****** also.

So all this should give us some satisfaction in the short term, shouldnt it, they're a set of arrogant t*****s.

With all due respect Gav, virtually every transfer made has an element of tapping up, even in semi pro football it happens, Jones plays for under 21s with smalling, SAF says to Smalling, see if Jones fancies a move to Utd and its game on. Even at non league, I have got players from other clubs by getting one of my players who knows a lad well to see if he'd be interested in signing, it happens, will never be stopped and its worse as players from so called smaller clubs become involved in International football.

How do you think we got Shearer, Sutton etc, we had a clear indication before bidding that the player had an interest. Savage from Birmingham was another prime example.

Discussing this before this blew up last night in the local. Imo Jones cannot turn this kind of a move down for the sake of his own career but I was suprised that the 17m was the actual fee as it is very low for a player of his pedigree and age imo.

I'm no legal expert but in Duffs case a 17m allowed the player to talk to a bidder and to agree to a transfer but did not set the fee. As there was only Chelsea involved no higher bid came in, however in this case there are at least 4 other clubs interested so the fact that someone has triggered the clause and Jones has said that he wants to leave, plus the fact that he is signed up with us for 5 years should allow an auction to start.

Last night I accepted that this time the contract must contain the fee but this story maybe backs up my own understanding.

No wonder the Venkey mob are unhappy though, MU are obviously an issue with them in the eyes of their social set and the last time BRFC bent over to get rogered by the scum the manager paid for it with his job! Kean's there again soon so he might get a rather frosty reception this time given that their 'advisor' has brainwashed them into believing that the manager of a football club is in sole charge of every facet of that club. Especially so now that that manager has attracted the wrong sort of attention on the M6.

I've a feeling that Anderson's interests might be best served if he decided to go with him and hold Keans hand on this occasion.

The point about higher bids though is irrelevant. He has chosen to go to United, who have met the release fee (that's how I see it, overlooking any legal word issues.)

Fact is, the boy has gone to United, and the only hope is to squeeze more cash out of them if we can

Gav - you and I don't agree often but we do on this apart from the Sam bit!

Can I just say that I am not having a go at Venky’s over this. Personally think that it absolutely great that they are angry about this and are digging their heels in. My concern for them was that if they legally can’t do anything about it then the press will use it to further discredit and sling mud at them.

I don't care really. Anyone with any sense would expect mistakes in their first year as owners.

They appear to be standing up for us. Maybe legally they are in the wrong. But they are showing they won't be pushovers in the future. I don't expect more clauses that's for sure.

Hopefully that legacy from the Trust is gone.

Presumably, if they haven't a leg to stand on then their legal advisers will have told them ? If so, isn't it futile ? 'Tapping-up' would be classed as 'illegal'.

I think that there are 2 different strands here.

If as I have been told the contract that Jones signed is legally correct then they don't have a legal leg to stand in that regard.

However if Rovers believe that Jones has been "tapped up" and have evidence then that is something completely different in terms of the legalities.

Don't talk crap. Imo the trust did well on most of our sales and were far from pushovers. Duff / RSC / Bentley / Kuqi were all sold well with three many times above their value. The only blot was Bentleys sell on clause which was a condition of us getting him so cheap. The sums gained for Freidal and Bellamy were in line with their situations whilst Warnock's value was undisclosed I believe.

SSN said Jones moving to Man Utd for £19mil then changed their minds and said it was £16mil a few minutes later. Basically, it seems like no-one knows the price and there are loads of different figures flying about! I hope we can hold out for more if possible though because he is worth over £20mil.

Back to transfer talk...

I'm feeling that with the big transfer funds we supposedly have that we need to make some bold moves in the transfer market, look at Liverpool; they lost their best player but reacted positively with 2 big signings and now look a much more balanced team for it.

We've said for the last few years that CB is the position which we have most depth, so losing those players shouldn't be as much as a blow as we think. If we use the money to bring in maybe one CB then spend big on 2 strikers then we'll be a better team next season. The silver lining for me of losing Jones is that I might not have to watch Roberts next season huff and puff upfront without scoring.
