SamTheShrew Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Back to transfer talk... I'm feeling that with the big transfer funds we supposedly have that we need to make some bold moves in the transfer market, look at Liverpool; they lost their best player but reacted positively with 2 big signings and now look a much more balanced team for it. We've said for the last few years that CB is the position which we have most depth, so losing those players shouldn't be as much as a blow as we think. If we use the money to bring in maybe one CB then spend big on 2 strikers then we'll be a better team next season. The silver lining for me of losing Jones is that I might not have to watch Roberts next season. Amended!

pick32 Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 personally don't want either Welbeck or Evans, We need players who will have immediate impact. Plus Welbeck has always been shocking.
Hughesy Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 However if Rovers believe that Jones has been "tapped up" and have evidence then that is something completely different in terms of the legalities. Did Fergie meet with Jones & his family at his home in Preston?? Fergie has been in France since friday, they contacted us early this week.....
broadsword Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 I thought Jones' contract was re-negotiated (with a clause added in) in January, long after the trust departed the scene?
Hughesy Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 I thought Jones' contract was re-negotiated (with a clause added in) in January, long after the trust departed the scene? Not according to some close to him - it was there last summer (but a lower amount)

Got to be what all of this is about.

G Somerset Rover Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 And had he made a bid at this stage?? Probably not where Fergie is involved. He likes doing this doesn't he? If I remember rightly he had a few frames of snooker with Keano after he'd verbally agreed to join us.

When it comes to work such as this, there is still nobody who does it better than the United manager."
BuckyRover Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Not according to some close to him - it was there last summer (but a lower amount) That much was obvious. Bryan refuses to acknowledge what is right there in front of his face. Why would they insert a clause? No point. They don't need the money, the Trust did.
Hughesy Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 :!: Wenger was aware of the Clause which was inserted 13 MONTHS AGO

The timing of Fergie's visit is questionable though.
Gav Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 The timing of Fergie's visit is questionable though. I've gone on record as saying I'd not leave the club I supported as a boy for Man Utd or anyone, at this stage of my career If I was Jones. But just imagine Fergie turning up on your doorstep, and asking you to sign for the biggest club in the world
LeChuck Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 personally don't want either Welbeck or Evans, We need players who will have immediate impact. Plus Welbeck has always been shocking. Both would walk straight into our team! Welbeck is the most raw of the two, but he's still a good player. Get him and Hoilett on the wings on a 4-3-3 and we'd be a big threat. Evans is already a very accomplished defender, and defenders don't usually peak until their late twenties/early thirties.

den Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 :!: Wenger was aware of the Clause which was inserted 13 MONTHS AGO So says Ian Herbert. He would only know what he'd been told by someone else. It's irrelevant anyway Hughesy.

But just imagine Fergie turning up on your doorstep, and asking you to sign for the biggest club in the world Doing a bit of scouting work for Barcelona is he? I loathe Utd. Absolutely despise Ferguson and seeing Jones in that shirt will sink them to unchartered depths. Even if we can't squeeze any more money out them, i hope we screw them for an illegal approach. Yes i am extremely bitter.
chaddyrovers Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 I can see why the jones transfer was taking so long to be confirm. http://www.voxsports.net/jones-valued-by-rovers-at-25-million?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=jones-valued-by-rovers-at-25-million
Hughesy Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 It's irrelevant anyway Hughesy. To many on here it isnt, its better having the truth out there, rather than our new owners getting blamed for everything.

den Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 To many on here it isnt, its better having the truth out there, rather than our new owners getting blamed for everything. Doubt we'll ever know the truth. My only point would be that it's the owners responsibility to oversee contract negotiations. They should know exactly what's what. I'm pretty sure the trustees knew about these things. I'm not certain, from today's news, that the current owners know the details of the players contracts. Wasn't that all part of the due dilligence procedure?

Yet you seem to be blaming them. I would say that's strange. But it's not really is it?

In your haste to defend everything Venky's, you seem to be losing the plot Bucky.
Doogs Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Can I just say that I am not having a go at Venky’s over this. Personally think that it absolutely great that they are angry about this and are digging their heels in. My concern for them was that if they legally can’t do anything about it then the press will use it to further discredit and sling mud at them. Who cares what the press my say. If, as a result of Venkys fighting back means we get more money out of United......
