[Archived] Summer 2011 Transfer Window Part One

Recommended Posts

My point is that ManU can still bid any value they want and potentially unsettle the player.

Someone mentioned clauses in all contracts (mobile phones etc), and in those contracts, if you tell your operator that, "hey, I got a better offer at this other company, and I would like to transfer to them", my experience is that your current operator will give you a better deal.

There is only two set points in Jones' contract as far as I can see:

1. He has to play for Rovers for 5 years.

2. If a club offers £16m, we have to accept.

What it means is Jones can agree to stay longer than the 5 years. It also means Rovers can agree to sell him at any price below £16m. Rovers can not stand in the way if someone bid £16m.

Now if the contract says £16m is a MINIMUM for a sale to go through, then we can hold out for more.

1) or if the wording is ambiguous and open to interpretation. :tu:

**** 2) somebody from utd tapped him up before the 16 million clause was negotiated meaning that they have interfered with the legitimacy of the contract

Guys, for my pittance worth, I think a happy medium of round about 16 million isn`t that bad, and well done to Venkys for protecting an asset - players are only worth as much as someone is willign to pay for them, say teh clause didn`t exist, we could be looking at £12 million, now that would p1ss me off for Jones, I think aroufn the £20 million mark is about right to be honest (unless we are talking about Liverpool at teh moment (20 for Henderson, 35 for Carroll)

16 million doesn`t feel to me, like the club will have its pants ripped down from behind and shafted by one of the big boys, not liek what happened with Bellers and Liverpool, £6 million for an inform striker was a good eye waterer from behind. IF, the clause is to allow them to discuss with the player, and we squeeze some more cash above the magic 16 million threshold, it would be good to see some people come out and applaud Venkys.

I am not anti Venkys like many, but I am planning to judge them, not on some of the shortcomings last season whilst they settled, but on how the squad is rebuilt during the summer, as that will be a true reflection on ambition for our proud club.

Surely the clue is in his name? He lives in Leeds! You been out in Leeds on a Saturday night - seriously scary stuff some of those girls.

I'm in American. Never been to Leeds. So far my UK experiences have been limited to London, Manchester, Blackburn (very briefly- cathedral and club shop) and Edinburgh.

Venky's get slagged off for being ignorant in the world of football but when they actually dig their heels in and take the fight they still get slagged off.

I've "slagged" them off for appointing Kean and have done so based on his performances to date, which aren't good enough. If the rumors are true, then I have absolutely no reason to "slag" them off for their summer transfer dealings and won't. At least not yet.

Bloody hell. I went out of my way in the post before the one you quoted to say I'm not blaming Venky's for it, I don't know what Jones' agent was saying in negotiations. Stupid comments like that do not help.

All I'm saying is the sheer nature of contracts means any pre-existing clause is irrelevant, Venky's chose (for whatever reason) to have one in the contract they had Jones sign.

I expect better from you!

Venky's "chose" to have that in the contract because the alternative would be no new contract and a much lower fee for him to leave. Not much of a choice. So they chose a 16 million release clause over an 8 million one - that's the only choice there.

I believe LeChuck meant that he is not blaming Venkys for the 16 million release. If I'm not wrong, he's just saying that it is irrelevant no matter what contract we had before Phil Jones's current one because they are only going to look at the current one and pay us 16 million for it. He's just stating a fact, probably, and being neutral - not implying anything about this being Venkys's fault.

Someone mentioned that even with the 16 million clause, someone could offer 10 million and still unsettle Phil Jones. I might not be Jones, but I beg to differ. If I had a clause saying I can only leave if someone offered 16 million then I'll laugh at someone trying to offer 10 million because they're just wasting their time, forget about them and continue my football.

And someone else responded to my post about phone contracts and his operator offering him a better one when he wants to change his contract. Actually, to be honest, Kean and Venkys offered Jones a new contract that would make him the highest paid player at Blackburn with wages of 65,000 pounds a week. Jones turned down that new deal and went for the 50,000 pounds a week at Manchester United. So...I guess you can't fault Venkys for trying.

With the clause in the new contract, I see there can be 3 explanations.

1, Jones already had a clause in his previous contract – signing the new one increased the amount needed to trigger it (in exchange PJ getting a pay increase).

2, Venkeys are evil and/or Burnley fans who purposefully want to destroy / asset strip the club.

3, Venkeys were so desperate to get some positive press after the Sam debacle. They set about getting one of the fans favourite players to sign a contract and the only way he would do that was for a clause to be inserted (with Venkeys hoping no one would pick up on it).

I hope the answer is 1, but for the time being none of us will know.

I think if SAF came to you (PJ) and said he wanted to buy you, but would not pay the £16m, you would still be unsetteled. After all SAF wants you. That's pretty special ;)

I'm not saying Venkys are not doing everything in their power to keep Jones. I admire the work they are putting in to get as much money as possible. I'm just saying I don't think a release clause protects the club (like others stated earlier).

I want this over with ASAP so that we can get on with getting new players.

It´s very unprofessional if everything is focused on Jones case. Of course Rovers can´t spend that money yet but the search of new players must be active now.

No word about Kalinic in days. Is he heading out permanently or loan? Rangers?

To be honest, I hate Sir Alex Ferguson so I'll be biased and tell him to...let's just say my words wouldn't be civil. But hey, luckily I'm not Phil Jones, right? Personally even if I have the talent I wouldn't play for SAF for a million pounds a week (I doubt I will ever be worth that much, but this is hypothetically speaking).

I wonder what can protect the club, though...

Nothing can realistically protect the club 100%. :P

we now need to be bringing in a replacement centre back. we all have our choices who we want, but Kean must get a right replacement in. Phil Jones will go when the owners and rovers have accept a fee that we want. He wants to go and we have to accept this, i wouldn't want him to leave but he want to leave.

I would like us to bring in at least 4 players before pre season starts, and to make all of our signings before we start the season. All new players will need time to settle into the club and the area.

We need to improve the squad with:-

a centre defender or 2 if Samba goes,

right back,

left back,

centre midfielder,

2 strikers, one with pace and a target man.

Replacement centre half;

Like Johnson from Brum, he's got a look of killer keeley!

Does any know how long his contract is. He's got to be looking for a move. Doesn't belong in the championship.

Upson is a step down in quality.

Collins from AV is a throw back.

Who else is affordable and realistic?

centre midfielder, x2 JERMAINE JONES(5m), ERIK LAMELA(14M) OR HONDA(13m)

2 strikers, one with pace and a target man. DEMBA BA(FREE, BIG WAGES),YANNICK DJALO(?)

I'd say: a centre back (Collins, Johnson, Dann, Bassong)

a cheap left back maybe (Warnock)

1/2 Centre mids (J.Jones, a passing central midfielder - Vaughan, Adam)

A free winger maybe (Larsson, Vicente)

2 strikers (Defoe, Pavyluchenko, Agbonlahor, Sturridge ----- Ba, Welbeck, Dj Campbell)

We've done ok with danish/swedish type defenders historically.

Any decent henning berg / stephan henchov(sp?) types about?

Hangeland.

Not a lot of others, even though Tom Høgli had a great game against Portugal, marking Ronaldo.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Høgli

Don't think there is a lot of good Norwegians out there right now. Not sure about Sweden/Denmark

Ive not heard James McCarthy from wigan being linked with anyone recently, i think hes a real talent to solve our midfield issue, wouldnt be exactly expensive and we have the appeal of him not having to move areas.

englighten me if we have no chance with him, but id be more than happy to use half the phil jones money to bring him in
