Hi Guys,

Normally when I start to play a game the first thing I do is change the Assistant Manager as in general they tend to be very poor compared to what you can pick up very cheaply. Also when you start the game you can get Mutual Termination and you can get rid of them very cheaply. But after a few seasons in the job I always start to loose most of my back room staff and I have to start the process again. Apart from putting people wages up to crazy amounts. How can I keep my back room staff?

Cheers

BKR

Actually a very good question, and one I would love to know the answer to. I find myself offering a new contract with about a 33% pay rise, nots something I really want to do

Afraid that giving them pay rises is exactly what you have to do. Though you don't always have to give big pay rises. You can use the non-negotiable offer feature to force them to taking less significant pay rises usually, as once they accept this they never sign for the other club, but with normal negotiations they can say it's fine then sign elsewhere. Keep in mind though that if they refuse you've lost them, so depending how honest you want to play it you might wanna save first. Another thing I've noticed is you can deter clubs from trying in the first place by having your staff on long contracts, as the larger compensation seems to put them off. And if it doesn't work, you get the larger compo.

Frankly this isn't an area I've found myself getting frustrated with really. I find myself replacing much of my staff as I go anyway, as the club reputation rises and better staff become available. And (maybe because of the long contracts I give staff unless I'm fairly sure I'll be replacing them in a year or two), I don't seem to get that many approaches for my staff...not the ones I want to keep anyway. Or it could also be because my game only has one active league (England), as it seems to only be active clubs for me so far that make any approaches. If an offer comes in for one of my staff who I don't desperately want to keep, the first thing I do is look if I can find somebody who is either better, or offers the same for less money, in which case I come away with a profit and usually a reduced wage bill.

Course, it's possible the main reasons this aspect of the game doesn't cause me irritation is I a) don't mind the time spent finding new staff and B) don't mind paying decent wages to staff that are worth it. Sometimes I find an excellent member of staff to hire, and actually give them a little more than I could get away with, just to make them less likely to be approached. Staff wage expenditure is really not that high, and since I have a large stable of young players, if half a star extra on that shooting training costs me an extra 2k per week, I can live with that, as the cost of not getting all my young strikers to become top finishers will be a lot higher.

What annoys me with staff wages, actually, is that my board has a tendency to not allow me to offer as much as I want and can afford, and can be very sporadic in their valuations of what a staff member is worth paying. Often they'll let me offer more to an inferior member of staff, and let me give only 1k a week to a really good one. I can't remember if tampering with the wage budget helps you offer more to staff like it does with players (though you have to move the game time forward slightly after adjusting the budget to achieve this). But I do know if I end up not being able to keep star staff because my board won't pay up, I'll be very annoyed. IMO, the game should have a feature that allows you to ask the board to let you offer more wages to a specific player or coach.

Anyway, hope some of that was helpful. Re: offering the higher wages, you should keep in mind that most of the money you offer is money you will recoup if you ever do actually lose the coach (though obviously that effect isn't as great the more time has passed)

Playing just one league is the reason you don't have people coming in for your Staff.

Yes as the team improves you can get better staff but I have had coaches ask for way more money than they were on example 10K so then you have to loose them for free.

While it's not a game breaker, I do find it annoying as normally when you take over a team, the back room team are shocking. So then you take the time to find them and they bugger off 2 season later is annoying.

I will look in to the keeping the contracts long, as you rightly said this does affect the compensation.

Rep is another factor. If you bring a world known coach in, someone will want them sooner than if its someonecwith regional rep.

Biggest problem for me is the screwed up transfer system. I went for christien erikson, was told no less than 15m. United then go and sign him in the same window for 6.5m.

There's loads of bargains around...try finding Haris Medunjanin. I got him for a million, he was playing out in Israel, and he's excellent.
