I agree with some of what you said Theno, but Arsenal obviously thought he could be a top player otherwise why put in a 50% sell on- great deal for them.

Do you not think that Rovers have negotiated well in Jones deal, compared with previous ones?

I think at the end they made the best of a bad job. No one can read the future and 20m plus bits is a significant amount of money for a club that is on paper worth only marginally more but I think that in years to come the fee we got for jones will look a little sick.

Hey drog, did my question slip past your normally flawless vision?

I said there is no hope for you. Why should I waste any more time?

Splendid, you agree with me then.

Ferguson is one of the few managers who has signed far more pearlers than duffers. Disagree with his record and there's only one of us with 'no hope.'

My two cents:

RSC was an amazing piece of business.

Jones and Bentley were sold for fair market rates - we did OK.

Bellamy's clause was far too low - a mistake.

Overall, I think we've done pretty well when selling off our prized assets.

The problem for me is that we either didn't adequately replace them, or that the money was swallowed up by the club.

Saying that, if we don't get an absolute minimum of £15m, it's an absolute embarrassment.

I dunno Braddock. I'm sure his agent pushed hard for a clause, but I don't believe that Bellamy would have flat out refused to join for anything less than £6.5m.

You're right though, we were very, very fortunate to get him for that season. He's the best striker we've had since Shearer and one of the best we've had in any position since Shearer.

Perhaps so. Either way I see it as good business to actually get him here in the first place.

How silly is football getting, Chelsea pay Porto £13.3 million compensation to trigger a clause in his contract to get Villas-Boas as their manager, most clubs would pay that for a top player, certainly not a manager, he seems to be being dubbed as the next special one.

Has Kean got one of those clauses in his contract

I read somewhere that he was paying it off himself and handing in his resignation. Not sure if it's true but there you are.

Have no idea where he would get that money from.

13.3 million for a manager 12 months ago no one had heard of. Games gone mad! i'm gonna do a nicko and stick my neck on the line this time next year Chelsea will be looking for another manager after finishing 4th in the prem at best.

I actually think the opposite.

Surely no single player has the same influence on a team as a manager? To think, Mourinho's compensation would be less than Phil Jones's transfer fee. And Hughes cost Man City less than it cost us to get Kalinic in.

Personally, I think managers should be just as valuable as the players.

Yes, I'm surprised more aren't.

Apparently Norwich are going for Anthony Pilkington, I'd love a Darwen lad to be in the Premier League in the era of foreign players

Yeah he went my school, no offence but even at School he didnt stand out!!

Just shows how some get the luck and others dont...best of luck to him

As for Chelsea......£13m to release him, £5-7m contract per year, sack him in 12 months and pay £15m compo......So about a £35m outlay no doubt for a 12 month contract!!

Fair enough and if it had been a leading euopean manager who had won many trophies over the years then you could kind of agree with it, but this guy is 33 years old and just had a very good season with Porto, he worked under the wing of Sir Bobby Robson so you can see where the Mourinho comparison comes from.

But I still think it is a huge gamble by Chelsea, this guy has never managed in the Champions League, which is the trophy that Abramovich lusters after most, when he brought Mourinho to Chelsea he was a Champions League winner, and he didn't pay out that money to get him.
