CheeseOnToast Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Much as it pains me to say it, Warnock has put together a decent side at QPR, and with a list of players who shouldn't have been out of our reach. Playing decent football too. Oh, and give me Tony Fernandes over Venkys every day of the week. He appears to be loving the game and put his money where Venkys put their mouth.. The worst bit of it is that even though QPR spent 12 million in the transfer window, Venkys spent eleven million and a half. As far as economy of spending goes, I must admit that QPR did much better.

Or am I just being cynical again?

I agree that QPR looked good yesterday, but Newcastle defended horribly and constantly let Taraabt and Wright-Phillips run at defenders who lacked any kind of support. I'll reserve my judgement on the Hoops them until they have faced some proper opposition.
Ricky Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Aren't Newcastle unbeaten this seaosn and sitting 4th in the League, I'd say that's proper competition to be fair to them.
Commondore Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 David Yelldell is on the bench for Leverkusen against Chelsea in the CL tonight. Aren't Newcastle unbeaten this seaosn and sitting 4th in the League, I'd say that's proper competition to be fair to them. They definitely didn't look like it yesterday though.

Based on current squads and manager, we won't finish above anyone this season. Damn, I hate having to be so negative all the time. This is just not right. Get Kean out. BRFC deserves so much better than this woeful, woeful "manager".

I can see us possibly finishing above Swansea and Norwich, but only because both still have Championship-level squads. Our squad is good enough to stay in this division - if Kean stayed for the whole season I suspect, however, he'd be a big enough handicap that we'd probably still finish comfortably bottom. And yes, it's pretty horrible to feel so negative all the time... but Rovers have given me very little hope or happiness in the past ten months or so, I think it's ground almost all of us down. Supporting this club is an absolute nightmare at the moment... but it's encouraging, at the very least, to see plenty of fans still passionate to do something - anything - to try and put things right.

As far as economy of spending goes, I must admit that QPR did much better. THe other side of the coin is that QPR will be paying wages that we can't afford. But yes they do have a good side. Looking at the league, squad wise, there are only five teams it is arguable we have better squads than:- Swansea, Norwich, Wigan, West Brom, Wolves. Sunderland, Bolton, Newcastle we are roughly on a par with imo. On that basis we should be reasonably optimistic of staying up. However th issue however is that while we have some good players in some positions we are missing them in key areas - ie. the "spine of the team" that Kean was banging on about a week before the transfer window closed.... If Petrovic and Yakubu come good and Nzonzi finds the form of the end of last season then we'll be alright. Otherwise we are in serious serious trouble. We have no credible alternatives in those positions. Big asks for two young lads and a fellow who spent last season on loan in the championship....

Plus if we are to continue suffering injuries/lack of fitness, our squad will be fairly exposed.
deryck guyler's spoon Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 Some funny results today. What are the odds of a few hundred disgruntled Twotters meandering their way through the hills and dales of Horwich chanting "Doughnut Coyle out!"?
Blue blood Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 Whilst a lot of the excitment and debate is justifiably around us, it's interesting to see just how poor Arsenal were today. Not trying to have a knee jerk reaction but on this basis, not to mention the other games of the season Arsenal are really going to struggle this season. Champs League looks a very long way off. The way they look like conceeding when a little pressure is applied is worrying - well for Arsenal fans. Or do people think it's just a slow start by Arsenal and come May they'll be back in the top 4?

From The Wanderer: 'If its not Coyle's training or coaching then get shut of his Burnley mates on the coaching staff and bring in some quality premier league standard coaches quickly. Our so called defensive coach Steve Davis was a good 3rd / 4th div player but he's not premier league standard, same with the goalkeeping coach who coached that world beater Brian Jensen FFS.' ARF ARF!

Stuart Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 I'd suggest they get Nigel Winterburn in...
The Rover of Finland Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 I'd suggest they get Nigel Winterburn in... Ha. He would be more useful as a LB than as a coach.
Stuart Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 Ha. He would be more useful as a LB than as a coach. Lady Boy?
The Rover of Finland Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 Lady Boy? To be honest, not in Nigel´s case!
koi Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Yes but Nicko says Coyle is the next great manager......
CheeseOnToast Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 What is going on at Bolton... I thought they'd make a run at a Europa spot this year.
Backroom Tom Posted September 18, 2011 Backroom Posted September 18, 2011 Di Santo the new king of the deflection!
Miker Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Spurs dominating against Liverpool. Ridiculous refereeing though. Extremely cheap yellow cards to give out. Might as well blow for fouls on any contact.
