philipl Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 The Fulham/Spurs game was one fabulous match to watch. Friedel still the best keeper in the league.

Audax Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Great win for Bolton today, Stoke are not mugs (midweek away game in Europe or not). Even with a 5-0 win they are still in the relegation zone but they've proven that they can win and win big today. If anything today's results have made the next game away at Wigan even more important for us. Fulham look good (second half) against Spurs, could easily be 2-2 at present instead of 1-2. Obviously Stoke City has to improve their league form, they lost to Sunderland too, 4-0. At one point, they'd scored fewer than any other club. Too, talking about playing in Europe, here was Pulis playing up their matches in that league: http://www.soccerway.com/news/2011/November/04/cup-final-looms-for-stoke-says-pulis/ Stoke City manager Tony Pulis believes his men have a 'cup final' against Dynamo Kiev as they eye the Europa League knockout stages. It'd make me a bit upset if I was a Stoke fan to read that since they are playing so poor in the league. Spurs, Fulham and Stoke last year too, all have had problems juggling such a schedule. I guess it means more revenue though but the Potters are getting blown out of these games, not just a 'weak' performance, maybe I'm wrong, 12 points isn't that bad.
Audax Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 The Fulham/Spurs game was one fabulous match to watch. Friedel still the best keeper in the league. USA should definitely play Friedel in goal with total respect to Tim Howard. I'm not sure why they don't. Perhaps Friedel has retired from International Play. That must be it. If that is not the case, Klinsmann should select him.
Amo Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 The Fulham/Spurs game was one fabulous match to watch. Friedel still the best keeper in the league. We should have kept him but Lerner's money was too tempting. I know people say Robbo's a younger model etc. but he'll never be fit to wear Friedel's gloves.
RibbleValleyRover Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Newcastle re-name St James' Park the Sports Direct Arena Pave the way for Venky's to do something similar?
Backroom Tom Posted November 10, 2011 Backroom Posted November 10, 2011 Newcastle re-name St James' Park the Sports Direct Arena Pave the way for Venky's to do something similar? Remember when we could laugh at how Newcastle were run? I remember just last year feeling joyous reading toontastic after Hughton was sacked, damn you schadenfreude why did you come back to bite me.
Mc Love Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Surprised Venkys havent done it already. Xprs Park? Venkys Arena? The Venkys Hatcheries?
Hughesy Posted November 10, 2011 Author Posted November 10, 2011 Venkys wont sponsor it - they aint daft, its worth millions to outside companies!

philipl Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Scottish story, interesting all the same Stokes finds out his aunt is his mother Sadly Graham Greene is no longer with us to write the novel... I would anyone who has not read it to do so. The final short paragraph is one of the most deliciously funny ever written.
thenodrog Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Old saggy face to stand trial for tax fiddling. Puts a certain ex manager a step nearer to his lifetime ambition.
roverandout Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 i suppose we can put the quatari bid in this thread now. Some lucky club is going to be the next man city, hope its not newcastle or wolves.
Reedy You're A Star Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 i suppose we can put the quatari bid in this thread now. Some lucky club is going to be the next man city, hope its not newcastle or wolves. Or Bolton..God forbid!
philipl Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Everton will be the lucky club if we pass up the opportunity.
Commondore Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 But I thought foreign owners don't understand British football?
J*B Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Scottish story, interesting all the same Stokes finds out his aunt is his mother Rangers fans will have a field day.
Rover Down Under Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Ancelotti denies PSG link, wants to stay in England: Link PSG are owned by Qatar Investment Authority who want(ed?) to buy us. They have obviously been trying to land him for the job and if this deal goes / had gone through I imagine he would have been offered the position at Ewood.
Audax Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Stoke loses at home to QPR, next for the Rovers at Stoke. 2nd half of last year, it seemed like Stoke could not win a game. They are doing the same in the league at least, that's 2 or 3 straight home losses in what was suppose to be their fortress. The Newcastle goalkeeper certainly should have dove in one direction or the other on the penalty they conceded and then, when City got their second, it was like the dam broke. City was a lot better but Newcastle didn't totally give up. Norwich was pretty poor vs. Arsenal. I didn't expect West Brom to get more than a draw vs. Bolton and now, they've got their 4th win of the year and are in 9th.
Puffsan Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 I have to disagree with you audax. Even though Norwich wasnt great today they showed true fighting spirit, and if they keep fighting like that every game they will be clear from relegation imo
Audax Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Puffsan: Okay, you are right, Norwich was okay, good at times.... but what was that play where Holt seemed to give up on the ball and fell down in the box... it was like he was trying to get a penalty when he had a bit of a chance to score.
Audax Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Forgive me for commenting on these other matches with all of this other going on. Sunderland smoked Wigan big time this spring, something like 4-1, just under a miracle that Wigan kept up last year but I'm not to say whether it was deserved or not. Now, it's game on for them to stay up and they needed this today because they have Arsenal next weekend. And if anyone missed it, well, all the headlines are talking about that bad call to give Newcastle a penalty kick. I tend to see MUFC get breaks. I think they should have instant replay to begin with but I'm sure many here are not for it. Oh, and Bristol City defeated league leaders Southampton in the C-ship, Bristol City are still in the drop zone: http://www.soccerway.com/national/england/championship/2011-2012/regular-season/ but they were last about 2-3 weeks ago, so they are playing rather well now. That seems common in that league, down team goes up, up team down like Derby, down to 15th. That league really is fascinating to watch. Coventry City has the longest run in the Championship I heard but are adrift in the relegation zone at the moment. This is where the action is, Cardiff City seems to be in the playoffs about every year, I'd almost just like to see them make automatic promotion, they seem to deserve it.
Steve Moss Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 And if anyone missed it, well, all the headlines are talking about that bad call to give Newcastle a penalty kick. I tend to see MUFC get breaks. I think they should have instant replay to begin with but I'm sure many here are not for it. I'm for instant replay, for penalties and such. It won't slow the game and would take care of a lot of bad calls that tend to go the Big 4's way.
