Audax Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 In the African Cup of Nations, Almost 10 minutes of added extra time in the Gabon (co-host) Morocco game, hmmmn, and Morocco has gone up in the 9th minute of extra time 3-2. Okay, that's about all, looks like the Moroccans will go home early. Does make me curious as if Gabon may have gotten some favourable officiating or with 10 minutes, there must have been an injury, scuffles or something. I'll go see what the beeb says about it. Yes, it's over and that is the score. http://www.soccerway.com/matches/2012/01/27/africa/africa-cup-of-nations/gabon/morocco/1221467/ I'd think in that group, Tunisia and Gabon already will advance, I faintly would have liked to have seen Morocco win, they seem to send a fair number of players to Continental Europe to play and seems they've made 4 World Cups ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morocco_national_football_team ) as well as have made bids to host it. http://www.boston.com/sports/soccer/blog/2012/01/gabon_national.html?comments=all Well, some home fans seem to have been indeed uneasy over their manager but Gabon has played some impressive international football. And Morocco was given a late penalty kick... so maybe it was all level, long game all the same.

Amo Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 But the question is, Is it over and is that the score?
Amo Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Liverpool fans booing and chanting at Evra ('One lying b*stard'?) Just goes to show it isn't just football players who are sell-outs.
John Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Jose Mourinho has decided to quit Real Madrid at the end of this season for a Premier League job.
Amo Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Jose Mourinho has decided to quit Real Madrid at the end of this season for a Premier League job. I knew Venky's wouldn't let us down! Oh wait, you said Premier League.
Audax Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Maybe C. Ronaldo will return too, he kind of said that the PL is better than the Liga, more intense.
imy9 Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 My link Interesting article Maji but I would take the person more seriously if he could hold back on his clear dislike for Mourinho "Negative football", "anti football" is what Mourinho is accused of, but if people have seen Real this season then they would see a side playing excellent football, only inferior to Barca (not much shame in that), proof? Well they have scored 70 goals in La Liga thus far, in comparison to Barca's 59. Champions league, played 6, won 6 scored 19- over three goals a game- conceding 2 goals in 6. In his first season with Chelsea Mourinho's team played with Duff and Robben and were scoring 3 and 4 goals a game too. Whilst he has many critics in my mind he is already one of the greatest managers of all time and this season will win another championship in his fourth different league- three of those being the biggest.

Totally Agree Imy. As an Inter fan I have nothing but respect for Jose, one of the best ever manager's. I think that the tag of "anti-football" gets branded about to much with Mourinho, and that article while it raises some valid points, it is clear that the writer "hates" Jose. I watched the classico last week and thought that Real for large parts played Barca of the park, they had Ronaldo, Ozil and Kaka and it was hardly "anti-football". Barca play the game is such a majestic way when they are on song, that virtually any team playing against them can be accused of anti-football because you will spend a large amount of time without the ball. I will also love Jose for what he did at Inter, he took a team that was doing well domestically but struggled in Europe and within two years won the Champions league. Mourinho might not be evertone's cup of tea but for me he is one of the best out there.
Backroom DE. Posted January 30, 2012 Backroom Posted January 30, 2012 Personality-wise Mourinho is a childish, snidy, nasty piece of work. As a manager, however, he's one of if not the best in the modern game.
thenodrog Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 He's a posh Allardyce who is fortunate to have been in the position of purchasing the use of the worlds best players. He also has the face for television is peerless in managing the press and media to his own advantage. The experts on the Blackburn End wouldn't know whether to laugh or cry if he'd come to BRFC 12 months ago but now all but the most stupidly entrenched would admit to taking Allardyce back in a heart beat.
Hughesy Posted January 30, 2012 Author Posted January 30, 2012 Personality wise he is quality, exactly what the prem needs. His interviews are classic. As a manager I'd say he's pretty much the best out there.

There's so many holes in that short post it will have probably sunk without trace before I've managed to post this.
BuckyRover Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 A posh Allardyce? Brilliant. I'm surprised you can see through those heavily rose tinted specs.

Spent around the same as Sam at Porto and won the champions league, lol!
Stuart Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 We don't need Jose. We've already got the Scottish Mourinho in charge. The similarities are there for all to see: - Came from the back room team - virtually unknown - No real football career to speak of - Champions League ambitions - Fluent in Portuguese - First management role involve a team playing in blue and white - Does a good presser All that's missing are: - Management skills - Results - Personality - Chiselled good looks - Hair
Amo Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 I love how a discussion about Mourinho turns into another Allardyce love-in. Brilliant.
jim mk2 Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Mourinho is just a poor man's Sam Allardyce. The shame is we had the genuine article, and the owners in their collective madness decided to show him the door.
Stuart Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Mourinho is just a poor rich man's Sam Allardyce. Corrected it for you. In the interests of accuracy.
Mattyblue Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Listen, I was a big fan of Allardyce (as you all WELL know , but a poor man's Allardyce? Good grief! The bloke won the CL with Porto!

Mourinho is one of the greatest managers of all time IMO. The similarity I would put with Allardyce is that they don't give a toss how they win a game. When Mourinho first developed a team at Chelsea they were fantastic (Duff and Robben were frightening). But after that first season they edged towards a more solid, hard to beat approach, and they were not good to watch! Whenever Real play Barca they kick chunks out of them and attempt to rough them up. They do this because they aren't as good as them and they want to turn it into an unsettled, disjointed game to prevent Barca getting into any passing rhythm. Allardyce does similar things. His first aim when taking on anyone better than his team is to unsettle them, and ensure that they become frustrated. Second is to target their weaknesses. Remember Fabianski being in net against us when we won 2-1? Pedersen aimed for him every time so that we could pile up on top of him. They don't give two hoots how they win a football match, all that matters to them is 3 points. Some of our fans would have been wise to take that view instead of droning on about paying for a season ticket and watching 'hoofball'. Cheapest prices in the league ffs
Audax Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Just from my view, I consider Mourinho great because of how Inter Milan won the CL with him and defeated Barcelona and in the Championship League and at that time, really no one defeated Barcelona. I don't know of any other manager that could have engineered that stunning victory. And Inter have done poorly after Mourinho left although I believe Inter did well before Mourinho got there perhaps with Mancini but not good enough for the ownership.

In summary, two managers who realise that the result comes first and the manner of victory a distant second. Twas always thus. Pity the cognoscenti in the Blackburn End and on here could not see the bleedin' obvious.
