Stuart Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 both QPR and Wigan players showed tonight what it means to them to remain premier league players. Shame ours didnt last night. We've only got about 3 Premier League players and one of them can't get into Kean's team.

Backroom Tom Posted April 11, 2012 Backroom Posted April 11, 2012 Not PL but Ronaldo and Messi are ridiculous, Ronaldo just got his 39th league goal of the season
Stuart Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Followed by his 40th from the penalty spot. And that's just the league, he's got 52 altogether! (Ronaldo).
MarkBRFC71 Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 We've only got about 3 Premier League players and one of them can't get into Kean's team. And those 3 (Hoilett, Yak and Givet) will be off sharpish as soon as the season ends.
roversfan99 Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 really? wigan are a good, harworking passing team, im not surprised, didnt rate martinez before but last few weeks his team has shown real passion and a little skill, they will play us off the park when they come to ewood His record is poor but to be fair, they looked doomed until Martinez changed his team to 3 at the back, 2 wing backs, and Maloney causing havoc in behind 2 strikers with 2 controlling the tempo. Thats the difference between Kean and even a competent manager, he has managed to come up with a tactic that has sparked a reaction, and has got them playing.
Baz Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Keans tactics spark a reaction. Normally the opposition fans are happy. After tonight's results can't help but feel it's all over, with Wolves gone its 2 from 4 and 2 are in form. We have to win both home games and at least 1 of Swans, Spuds or Chelski away. To do that is nearly impossible defending as we continue to do.
Bobby G Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Passion doesnt get you survival. It may get you 1 win here or there. If you dont have the tactics, or quality to back it up. Martinez is a proper manager. He's made Wigan punch well above their weights. They have played well with average players, tactically kept it tight lately. In form at the right time.
Audax Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 really? wigan are a good, harworking passing team, im not surprised, didnt rate martinez before but last few weeks his team has shown real passion and a little skill, they will play us off the park when they come to ewood Yes, Wigan are good if that was directed to me, still, who would expect them to defeat Manchester United. Rovers: 14 Apr Swansea (A) 21 Apr Norwich (H) 29 Apr Tottenham (A) 06 May Wigan (H) 13 May Chelsea (A) The Wigan match could be for all the marbles, too bad, just like against Liverpool, Rovers often get a game right after the opponent has been humiliated, I think Swansea had a hard time vs. QPR today. QPR: 14 Apr West Brom (A) 21 Apr Tottenham (A) 29 Apr Chelsea (A) 06 May Stoke City (H) 13 May Man City (A) WBA beat us bad but QPR may well get a draw or better, they almost have to considering their other remaining matches even if they are currently "in form".
Audax Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 If Wolves had kept Mick McCarthy, poor guy, I bet they'd have at least 25 points, still at the bottom but at least in there with some hope. At 22 points, they definitely are a cellar club. http://www.soccerway.com/national/england/premier-league/2011-2012/regular-season/
Ricky Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Rodgers has come out and blasted his team after their loss last night. Expect a reaction from them on Saturday.
Backroom DE. Posted April 12, 2012 Backroom Posted April 12, 2012 Rodgers has come out and blasted his team after their loss last night. Expect a reaction from them on Saturday. So he should, they were pathetic. Unfortunately for him I think he's seen a glimpse into next season.
Baz Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 So he should, they were pathetic. Unfortunately for him I think he's seen a glimpse into next season. Maybe it just highlights how well he has done on such a limited budget with a bunch of average players. There will be plenty looking at him in the next managerial merry-go-round.

DavidMailsTightPerm Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 So he should, they were pathetic. Unfortunately for him I think he's seen a glimpse into next season. To be fair - it had been a fairly even match until QPR scored in the 46th minute - they then score a goal that should have been given off-side and took a deflection. Following this QPR's tails were up - and the rest is history. Rub of the green - luck - whatever you want to call it - Rovers had it in the back to back wins - and haven't had much since. Even in the Bolton match - with a little luck we may have nicked an undeserved draw. I said it a while ago - who stays up will come down to that little bit of luck at the right time. Lets hope somebody is smiling on us - I think the fans deserve a little luck considering the bad hand we have been dealt with our owners and Kean.

roverandout Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 that old chestnut, luck, yes im sure we are unlucky, im sure we didnt get any luck with that point at wigan, im sure we werent lucky to be up against a severely understrength united team at old trafford, im sure we werent lucky to scrape a win over arsenal with two o.g's and them missing some great chances, and so on, luck evens itself out, we have had our fair share, its bad management and bad owners that have us in this mess, nothing else.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 I don't consider missing a pen bad luck. We even missed two in one game. Have we had the bad luck that Wigan have had lately ? Has that stopped Wigan playing for their lives ?

It may have been a fairly even game up until the goal, but only in that they were both evenly crap. Swansea's football consisted of pass forward, pass sideways, pass sideways, pass backwards, pass backwards, pass forward, pass sideways, pass sideways, pass backwards, pass backwards... ad infinitum. That is not the way to play football - having all the possession in the world is pointless if at some point you aren't planning to actually penetrate in the final third. Swansea never showed any intention to do that, no wonder the QPR fans were chanting "boring, boring Swansea". They weren't half.

Has that stopped Wigan playing for their lives ? We just had incredible incredible luck in the Liverpool game. Gifted two penalties! Gifted a goalkeeping error leading to a red card. We still managed to bugger it up with a shocking performance. Completely unable to break down one of the worst Liverpool teams I have ever seen unless they did it for us. Our only 4 chances came from; 1. a shocking back pass and poor keeping (Penalty) 2. Terrible terrible defending leaving a clinical striker all on his own. Granted a good delivery from a set piece. 3. another shocking goalkeeping error to gift us another penalty 4. Their No.9 putting a back header goalwards after one of those dreadful 'hoofballs' as they were known in a much fonder era. Of course now they are far less effective! We are shocking! Luck evens itself out over a season! We deserve to go down because were ######, not other reason
Mattyblue Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Teams will stay up because of that 'little bit of luck'? Err no DMTP, you'll find the team with most desire, the team with a manager who can inspire, can set up a side. The team with that bit of quality when t counts. We have none of those things and that's why we'll go down.

Ok - my definition of luck - refereeing decisions going your way, playing teams at the right time, not picking up injuries, not picking up suspensions. To an extent you of course can influence these things - but when you have five poor teams at the bottom with only 5 matches left to play, of course getting the rub of the green during the run in has an influence. IF we stay up we will have been lucky IMO - or are you saying that if we stay up Kean is a manager who can inspire and set up a side ? twaddle - if you finish bottom 3 in May, it's nothing to do with luck. So it is all down to Kean's managerial brilliance ?
Mattyblue Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 We stay up, we deserve it. And if we did recover from where we are today and survived, then obviously that desire, bit of quality came to the fore.

Stuart Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Listening to Di Matteo talking about Ivanovich's punch not being violent conduct. If you haven't seen it, there is a clue in the word 'punch' but it was off the ball and aimed at the base of his opponent's spine. 3 games isn't long enough and yet Di M is managing to appear hard done by. Can't believe they appalled it - although not the least bit surprised that the FA didn't extend the ban. I can't think of the last time I thought the FA got something right in these situations.
