Hello all, I come in peace.

I am the creator and editor of a Manchester United football website (blog and forum) called Stretford End Arising (www.stretfordendarising.com).

With speculation Phil Jones is set to sign for United I wonder if a respected well informed poster is prepared to share their thoughts on Jones? A contributor has provided an introduction and the poster's thoughts will be added in what will be a joint piece.

Possible discussion points:

Your thoughts on the transfer

His potential

Your view on why he chose United

His role in United's team/squad

Describe the type of player Jones is.

Strengths and weaknesses

His current and future position (midfield or defence)

His best performances in a Blackburn shirt

Poor performances and if he struggles against a particular striker

And anything you would like to add.

I hope a respected poster is interested and willing to contribute. If someone is interested I will provide an email address.

Thank you,

SEA

We know you come in peace but try and imagine how you'd feel if a player you'd had on your books from the age of 9 went as he was about to crack the big-time.We hate your club even more bitterly than last week.

Doubtful you'll get what you're after on here.

If I was you I wouldn't ask on here, you're unlikely to find anyone willing to answer your questions. But in the interests of fairness, I can point you in the direction of someone who'll give you a fair and balanced opinion on it : twitter.com/vinjaybrfc.

Hope that helps :tu:

Your thoughts on the transfer

His potential - Potential to be a World Star, I personally feel feel he will be England Captian in the next few years. The way he reads the game is fantastic (see his performance VS United when he didn't give Hernandez a sniff. He's got pace and isn't shy of a tackle. His stint in midfield I feel has also improved his attacking game. You'll often see him making surging runs into the oppostion area. Very calm and composed, great in the air and the fact he's only 19 just makes him an outstanding player.

Your view on why he chose United - Allegedley Alex Ferguson has tapped him up, if that proves to be the case then we should hopefully see his price increase. Surprised he never chose Arsenal, as that is the only team where I see him gaining a starting position. However, their lack of trophies and the fact he would have to move away from his home may have made that decision easier. Joining United we all know he will see some form of silverware in his career, and with Rio not getting any younger, he probably sees himself playing in the first team sooner rather than later.

His role in United's team/squad - Probably be on the bench for PL games and being introduced in cup games (FA Cup, Carling Cup and a few CL games). He should be the first replacement should Rio or Vidic get injured or suspended. Overall, playing limited number of games, something he won't enjoy.

Describe the type of player Jones is - As I have said before he is very versatile, he can play in midfield and in defence. Having had the pleasure to see him in both positons, you will notice defence is his favoured position. He's your traditional English centre back. He loves a challange, won't be pressuried by the occasion (His debut was VS Chelsea facing Drogba and got MOTM). He will also put his body on the line making several blocks and clearances in vital positions. Not scared to shout at other seniors too if they're in the wrong, something I found very impressive.

Strengths and weaknesses - Stated in above repsonses.

His current and future position (midfield or defence) - Has to be played in central defence for me, does often get exposed in the middle due to his lack of creativity and I feel this will be a greater challenge when facing better quality oppositions. At Rovers, we were defending a lot and United don't often come across teams that attack them. Usually teams park the bus and if that was the case, then Jones would be wasted in midfield. So for me, defence all day long.

His best performances in a Blackburn shirt - Debut VS Chelsea easily. So much pressure being only 18 at the time and facing then, argubaly the best attacker in the world in Drogba. He stayed strong, positioned himself well and was very composed. Not looked back since and confidence is always growing.

Very disappointed at Jones for leaving so soon. Hope he does have a fantastic career and continues to respect Rovers whenever he does come down to Ewood. Playing only 35 games for us and receiving £16m+ for him, many will say it's a tad expensive. However, not many United fans will have seen this young lad play, and ALL Rovers fans value him at a higher price. You are getting a bargain and wish him all the best in the future.

I hope a respected poster is interested and willing to contribute. If someone is interested I will provide an email address.

Thank you, You're Welcome
