Mattyblue Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 To be fair, BKR the likes oh Hendry, Wilcox, Gallagher are usually knocking about. And of course Garner. Jinky Jase, in particular waxes lyrical about he club.
Andy Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Would be an interesting move if it happened - I'd certainly keep an eye out for their results if Big Al was there.
daveoftherovers Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Alan Shearer in ANOTHER club management flirtation, let down , news shocker??!! Does anyone really think he actually "Has it" to be a manager? I can well imagine him helping on the coaching side, scouting for strikers, or possibly, motivation (I know, I'm reaching for him here) but Management? Seriously? No, not for me. I know he was dobbed in it at Newcastle, but that was clearly classed as an "Epic Fail" Shame really, as he really irratates me in on MoTD (I know, so do all the others) and I was looking forward to a change, but, more bland, smarmy, cliche punditry to be served, thank goodness for Sky+ and x30, imagine if you actually had to watch all their drivel before, between and after all the matches? You'd have a new telly or tourettes EVERY weekend!
thenodrog Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Shearer's become a managerial prick teaser. He's not intelligent or canny enough for management imo but until he has a go the myth will continue. Much the same for all his buddies on the MoTD sofa. btw If I was a chairman forced at gunpoint to pick a manager from the MoTD list he'd be the last choice. My first would be Lee Dixon.
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 I wouldn't mind Rovers perhaps offering someone like Shearer a coaching role let's say as a 'attack/strikers' coach, he could probably keep his tv commitments as well. A player of his calibre could provide a lot of experience and wisdom especially to the younger players. Whether Shearer would be up for something like that is a different matter plus there is no guarantee great player = being able to coach as we saw with Winterburn under Ince. I think since Sparky's departure we have missed having an attack minded coach at this club. If not Shearer then I would like the club to explore the possibility of bringing someone in who could do that.

I would not have minded Berg coming back either as an assistant instead of Jensen.

Great centre forward without a doubt but much of his development was down to the input and nous of KMD imo. If we had to employ someone in that position from our old boys I think Newell would have more to offer, and he'd be a lot cheaper.

Venky's were happy to waste £90k per week on Roque, not sure money would be a real issue if they wanted him. But I accept your point that Shearer might not be suitable for the role, an interview process and conversation would determine that. Good call on Newell, he might be a good option. I just think we could do with getting in an attack minded coach.
jim mk2 Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 http://www.mirrorfoo...icle747021.html Another Mirror "scoop" that turned out to be, well, good for nothing except lining the bottom of the parrot's cage. I'm sure Shearer likes the idea of being a manager but what he cannot contemplate is failure. Shearer was lauded throughout his career as a player but to suffer the inevitable fate of most managers and be sacked would be a huge blow to his enormous ego and one that he is unlikely to risk. Shearer is in his comfort zone on the MoD sofa so we can look forward to years more of anodyne comments and riveting analysis.
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted June 15, 2011 Moderation Lead Posted June 15, 2011 So he gets to continue sitting on the fence on MOTD contributing nothing for a few more years- great!

I say get Jason Wilcox in - good pundit on the radio - spot issues that we all see and says it as it is - no messing from him and appears to have a good football brain on him even for todays game.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Finally grown some balls Alan instead of hanging around the dark corridors of St James's?
